Miley Cyrus says Vanity Fair photo spread embarrasses her

LOS ANGELES - Miley Cyrus said she's embarrassed by an apparently racy photo spread appearing in the upcoming issue of Vanity Fair.

"I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed. I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about," Cyrus said Sunday in a statement through her publicist.

The photos, by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz, were taken to accompany an interview with the 15-year-old pop star and her father, singer Billy Ray Cyrus. They include shots of the teen reportedly topless and wrapped in a blanket...

GIVE ME A BREAK... MILEY CYRUS - SHAME ON YOU!

I'm sorry, but you don't get naked and wrap yourself in a blanket and not realize that these pictures might come out looking "racy".  She is obviously "growing up" in front of the camera and yes, that is very difficult, but really... how dumb does she think her fans are?

My wife and I don't have children, so our household hasn't been smitten by the HM bug, so we don't have little HM wannabees running around who might just buy into her "apology".  It really makes me wonder, though, if she thinks she can actually pull this one off.

I don't really fault her for "posing" for the racy pictures because, by all means, that's her choice.  But, posing for something like that and then afterward acting dumbfounded like she had no idea they were going to turn out the way they did. 

I mean come on Miley Cyrus!  Own it!

Yeah, no kidding. Esp after the pics she posted herself on myspace. Blame? Her parents! SHES 15!

nancy, I agree completely. I have a daughter and there is no way in HXLL I would ever let her do something like that. I read that her parents were actually present the whole time for the photo shoot. No matter if they were supposed to be ARTISTIC or not...She's 15 and a celeb. You know that this is going to turn bad!

I read somewhere that both parents were there with her when the pics were being taken and approved of them as beautiful art....now they are saying that Vanity Fair is to blame!!!! Another little girl playing grown-up way too fast...this time with her parents' consent?

Great responses... Ultimately at 15, it is up to her parents, but apparently, according to People
magazine they were not there for the last shot:

"Though Cyrus's parents left before the final shot, with Miley supposed to be appearing topless, the source said: 'Miley's grandmother and her teacher were there when she shot it. Annie convinced them it was going to be artistic. Her parents are mortified. They know this is a learning moment for Miley.'"

I am wondering... why would they have left? What were they thinking? And shame on grandma and the teacher for not saying anything.

Disney is trying to make it sound like she was manipulated by the situation:

"In its own statement about the Vanity Fair story, the Disney Channel, which broadcasts Cyrus's series Hannah Montana, said: 'Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines.'"

And another thing...

I go back to my original statement. Did she not realize what she was doing at the moment they had her take off her clothes? Or, at least make it look like her clothes were off?

Would she still be "embarrassed" if the photos had not been leaked and there wasn't such a "reaction" to them?

This isn't the first time some "questionable" photos have been made public. The only difference this time is she knew they would be public! I have a feeling this will not be the last time either.

How can anyone take this any different? I mean, even Miley knew what she was doing when she posed for this. Publicity, plain and simple. Her parents are idiots.

Miley Cyrus Ordered to Lie Low:

The Disney Channel, whose "Hannah Montana" empire is worth nearly $1 billion, has ordered Miley to lie low.

"You won't be seeing her for a while," a highranking Disney employee was overheard saying this weekend at a luncheon in LA, according to Page Six. "The company is keeping her away from events and wants her to keep a very low profile for the next four to six months. They're trying to keep her contained."

The article also states that Billy Ray has an \"Achy Breaky Heart\" and that he was mortified by the picture!

Hopefully, all involved have learned from this situation, but I commented to my wife today that if Miley Cyrus is going to push the envelope "this far" when she is fifteen... what will she be doing when she turns 18? Scary! I hope she "hides" for a long, long time.

Thanks for imbedding the pics so others can see how demeaning this picture makes her look. Especially at fifteen.
