After 59 years of life and almost twenty years of military service I find my self very sad that our country has been reduced to what it is.  Initially, the thought that maybe I am just getting old and over reacting crossed my mind, but I really don't think that my age is the problem.

We have one candidate that has absolutely no business running for president based on his experience.  I do not care how eloquent he is, he has zero experience and has a pattern of being noncommittal on any issue that he could be pinned down on.  He is running his campaign on one choice that he made.  He had a 50/50 chance of being correct and in "his" eyes he was correct which makes him a self proclaimed expert.  How in the world is the public so blind as to think for one second that this man, no matter how wonderful he is, is qualified for the highest office in the land?  His personal record of beliefs for the past twenty years has only just now begun to come under scrutiny, and it is a a minimum remarkable.

The next candidate has many years of public service and has been close to one of the better leaders that we've seen over the past twenty years or so.  She has also been embroiled in numerous scandals, questionable ethics issues, and some of the most amoral behaviors ever seen in high office.  Nothing in the aforementioned relates to experience or qualification for the most serious leadership position in the land.  Further, with the way that the world is going, the term of office that we are looking forward to is probably going to be among the most trying terms ever seen including that of the world wars.

Both of these candidates are promising actions that they have absolutely no way to deliver.  This makes them both liars right out of the gate.

Finally, the last candidate is a war hero.  He has many years of Congressional experience.  He has demonstrated that he is able to forge agreements with the other party, but he has also demonstrated that the will of the people is subordinate to his own judgement.   Further, he has never governed anything.  None of the above qualify him for the presidency.

What is really disallusioning is that people are lining up behind each these people with a fanaticism that rivals lemmings.  Kids are in love with one because he says that he hates war and will get us out regardless of the consequences, and because he is promising free tuition.  He cannot deliver on either, but these very smart young ones just slobber over him like he is a god.

What the heck is wrong with our public?  Are we so selfish that we give the election process no more than a lick and a promise, and in the process get really stupid?  What is wrong with the parties that they can only produce candiidates that should be thrown out for being the scalliwags that they are?  Are we as a people without shame?  Have we become so jaded that we have just thrown in the towel and play along with the game like the Russians do?  We follow the guidance of the media like it is the paragon of wisdom.  Are we too stupid to know that we are being manipulated or is it that we just don't care anymore?

Good grief!

I couldn't agree more with your blog. Some of the most qualified people for the APresidency will never have that chance because they are not wealthy.

The media will win the election for whomever they decide is right for us.

Very well written blog..I too agree and scotty is so correct about about the media making "our decision"...I saw the end of an interview with Obama and the question to him was something about his "house deal" and whether he was going to make that info available as requested...Comsumate politician..he avoided..danced around and NEVER answered and unfortunately the interviewer never pressered for an answer either.....I was so disgusted...I wanted Judge Judy asking him...she would have gotten an answer!!!!

see , the problem is people actually believe this is a government of the people by the people and that can't be further from the truth

Many moons ago I wrote a piece about what happens to a person as soon as they get near the Beltway in Washington, D.C. At that time I suggested that they did an "Incredible Hulk" routine and instantly became something other than what their constituents voted!

Over time, I've come to learn that every politicians #1 priority is RE-ELECTION...and nothing more. To that end, they instantly get signed up for dollars and re-election support from special interest groups, along with the snake-oil salesmen handing out re-election dollars to any and all who will vote their particular legislation into law. And this pretty much goes for every single one of over 500 elected representatives (who don't "represent") and senators (who are little more than blood sucking slugs in their own right).

It is long-past time for a column on our ballot that gives us the option "NONE OF THE ABOVE".

I totally agree with KK- give us "none of the above" on the ballot.

The other thing is this- our schools have been dumbed down to the lowest common denominator so as to not fail anyone. Two reasons- they don't want lawsuits based on "racism" and they don't have room to hold anyone back. So now almost EVERYONE coming out of our public schools is stoopid.

They no longer know how the process is supposed to work, nor do they even know what to ask for. They take what is said on CNN and The Weather Channel as gospel. They are just lost sheep, willing to follow anyone.

I have a question...seriously...if one does not vote ..is that the same as "none of the above" or is that not a strong enough statement?

I pose the same question as usual....."It's 3 am, and your kids are safe and sleeping". So why the hell aren't we sleeping too???

The world is goin to hayull in a handbasket for sure!
I'll vote but I think I'll write myself in as a runner.A real person thats for the average person and has no hidden agendas and most importantly has no prior experience in running anything but a household.Hmmm...yea....thats what I'll do!
Wait till they get a load of me!

dawn, in my opinion, no - it's not the same. If we had the opportunity to say "Y'ALL SUCK", maybe some of them would get the message. Not voting is about the same as finishing second in the Kentucky Derby -- nobody remembers, nor do they care.

I wish a "no vote" was as good as "none of the above"...unfortunately, it is just written off as voter apathy or lazyness.

Likewise, there is no such thing as a vote "against" a candidate. Every vote cast is a vote for everything the candidate promised.

That is why any ballot not cast for a candidate you fully support is a wasted vote.

And obviously, I disagree with GW on that point. I DO agree, if the vote is to be cast in an election....but, in a primary, if one crosses over and votes, they generally do so to vote against one or more candidates. It's a useful tool in our election system and a classic example of just how vulnerable that system really is.

No matter how a person votes - or whether any of us agrees or disagrees - no vote is "wasted", in my opinion.

The 2 party system is what is broken.

With the 5+ million voters in Fl and MI not getting counted, I find the democrat complaints about voter disenfranchisement to be laughable.

I agree with your assessment of all 3 of these want to be leaders.

As an aside, my 18 year old daughter was wanting to vote for Obama. She changed her mind after the Nafta thing. I told her that they are all lying to us, but her reasoning for changing her vote was that he got caught. If he got caught at something like this, what, she asked, would he do with truly secret national security type information?

A very sophisticated line of thought for an 18 yr old voter.

If any have any doubt over how low our government has come, just look back over the building of the border fence.

All the rhetoric, promises, funding votes, understanding by the politicians that we the people demanded it; then Sen. Hutchinson giving total say if and what would be built over to Chertoff with her screw the people amendment, and Chertoff certifying a part of the "virtual" fence as a success - well it of course does not work, and the fence has been pushed back until 3 years from now at the earliest.

Perhaps by then, one of the 3 candidates will have the border removed completely, and we can just take in the world.

Screwed again by Republicans AND Democrats. We need a revolution.

KK, my point being that you may think you are voting against a candidate but all they understand is that you support everything they "say" they stand for. Just like the "no vote", it makes no difference your motivation, only how they interpret it.

As far as "wasted vote"...any vote cast for a candidate tells the party "I want more of this caliber candidate. This is my kind of politician."

That is why we get the likes of these three (every election cycle).

If we had "none of the above" and that received more than 50% of the vote (or a majority inn the case of multiple candidates), then the election would be void, sending a message to all parties that WE DONT LIKE THESE JERKS YOUR SENDING US, OR THE PLATFORM THEY STAND ON.

I voted for Hillary inn the primary because I wanted to see her stay in the race. I know several people who are normally Republican voters who did the same thing. I suspect a LOT of the voters in the democrat primary were republicans doing exactly what I did, trying to either keep Hillary in, or nominate B.O. Those I know who voted for B.O. did so because they think he will be easier to beat. those voting for Hillary did so to keep her running, snd thus keep the dirt flying and the money being spent. These were not wasted votes.

KK and GW...thanks for the answers...makes sense to me now...wish we had the power and choice of "none of the above" for all the hoopla about this election there sure are a lot of people unhappy with the 3 contenders...I have been around a long time and I have never been so conflicted and unsure and disappointed....by the way I did vote Tuesday

Unfortunately, the conservative bickered among themselves and allowed McCain to squeak through. Now we're looking at 3 self-loathing elitists. They have money and they obviously feel bad about it because they want to spread it around - but there is nothing charitable about giving away other people's money!

I can't afford BO or HC. I'm one of those wealthy families they talk about that have a household income of $50k or more. Shame on me for being so #@$&ing rich (yes I'm swearing with symbols). Take away my tax cuts and give them to people who don't work.

Those high school/college students that love BO will sure love them when they graduate and realize that they pay 40% of their income in taxes to fund his silly programs.

You have that right, Infidel! Those kids are mere sheep frothing at the mouth for...change? Um, what change? It's more change than they can afford, or us, for that matter.
