I've said it once; and I'll say it proudly again--"READERS ARE LEADERS" especially in the "MAYOR'S SUMMER READING PROGRAM" (MSRP)!
And today--as I continued my weekly visits to Dallas library branches and other learning centers, to spread the word about the MSRP and get kids involved--children of all ages continued to prove HOW MUCH FUN READING IS.
Be sure to watch FOX 4 NEWS today at 5 & 10 (as well as the reports here on myfoxdfw.com...just enter "summer reading" in the "search" box on the homepage) to see for yourself.
Today at the Grauwyler Park Library Branch -- the newest center in the Dallas system--a couple of avid readers, Monica Vega and Irma Zamarripa joined me for storytelling hour. And I have to tell you how impressive they both were; not to mention how thrilled our audience of kiddos was too!
Most of them have already joined more than 10K other kids so far in signing up this year--for free--to read, read, read in the Dallas Mayor's Summer Reading Program...and to win great prizes like trips to 6 Flags and electronic games. And it's still not too late for a child (ages 0 to 18 years old) you know to do so too (btw you don't have to live in Dallas to join). Checkout www.dallaslibrary.org
This is Monica Vega's 4th year in the program. She first signed up when she was 14. Last year she read for 75 hours over the course of the summer. She's already read 15 hours this summer. And her goal is 100 hours! Way to go, Monica...and to all the kids who are having fun this summer READING! In fact Grauwyler Park set a goal of registering 1000 kids this summer in the MSRP. And as of date they've signed up around 750. Kudos to Librarian,
Alexandra Burns, and her team...and of course the children! And remember it's not about the number of books you spend reading or having someone read to a child, but the *hours spent...having fun and learning!
FOX 4 AND MY27 are proud sponsors of the Mayor's Summer Reading Program. And I can't wait to visit another library next week!

It is so exciting to share my thoughts with YOU through MYFOXDFW.COM and to read all about what YOU have to say about practically any and everything--from family, politics, and games to FOX4NEWS stories. Our blog on MYFOXDFW sets us so far apart from other tv news station blogs because MYFOXDFW is just that--it's personally YOURS & mine. It's another great way for us to communicate...for us to get to know one another. In fact you can think of me as your own personal FOX4NEWS/MYFOXDFW BLOG CORRESPONDENT. So feel free to leave me a comment(s) on my blog at "BARONVONBLOGLOG"...hmmm maybe that should be the name of the tv segment? At any rate there's so much more (ie. photos, my hobbies, etc) that I'll be sharing with you from Baron's world in the days and weeks and years to come. I look forward to hearing from you.
