There's still time...to sign up for the Dallas Mayor's Summer Reading Program. And remember it's free to do so and you don't have to live in Dallas. Just be between the ages of 0 (yes baby's included too) and 18 years old...and READ, READ READ!...or have someone read to you...as I did today to a group of 3 to 8-year-old kids at the MLK Library Branch in South Dallas. (And what a smart group of kids they are too!)

Children's librarian, Mary Jones, told me that nearly a thousand kids at MLK have signed up for the MSRP--exceeding the number of participants there this time last year. KUDOS!

And systemwide, 15,375 readers (as of Monday) had signed up...compared to a total for the whole summer last year of  15,380. And there's still about 2 1/2 weeks left to go.

So get your kids signed up at your neighborhood library. For more info checkout www.dallaslibrary.org. And remember "READERS ARE LEADERS"!

You know, one of the best ways to get a child to read is to read yourself! When my kids were younger we used to take a half an hour break to read after school. Sometimes we would read a story together, sometimes by ourselves. It's such a good habit. The only problem is that my kids picked up my bad habit where when I find a good book, I have to read it straight through. I guarantee I will have the new Harry Potter book read in one day.

***KUDOS, indeed, Baron! That's great. Absolutely great. I have always loved to read, and I taught my children the value of READING! To be hungry for knowledge, by any means necessary entails the very first step...READING!

I totally agree with both Onyx and TTB on this....and a mighty big tip of the old fedora to you, too, Baron, for dedicating so much time, talent and energy to this valuable program. I have been saying for years that the inability to communicate is the basic reason for most this world's problems...right down to the family unit. We HAVE to solve this problem.

Very well said, KK.

Baron, I echo his sentiments.

TexasTruBlu, Onyx and KellerKowboy...sorry I'm just getting back to you guys. I really appreciate your support...and for your leading your kids to the wonderful world of reading! It truly has been a sensational summer in the MSRP. In fact I'm thrilled to tell you that as of today the program has signed up nearly 16-thousand kids for the '07 MSRP. This number surpasses last year's. And we still have 10 days to go before wrapping for this summer.
Again thanks for your support.
