I'm thrilled to tell you that the Mayor's Summer Reading Program has set a new record. Just shy of 16 thousand kids have signed up this summer surpassing last summer's total readership. And we still have 10 days to go before the '07 MSRP wraps. Thanks to all the kiddos for reading...the parents and older siblings for encouraging their young readers...and the librarians and staff for all they do. As you know all summer I've been visiting with the kiddos at the Dallas Public Library Branches. And today I stopped by the Casa View Branch in East Dallas...to cheer on the children and congratulate all those who've been reading, reading, reading so much this summer. At Casa View alone some 750 readers have been keeping track of hours read...and collecting prizes along the way.
BTW DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE BIG PARTY WE'RE THROWING AT DALLAS CITY HALL ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 18TH FOR ALL THE "READERS WHO ARE DEFINITELY LEADERS"(...look for more to come about this)
