So I headed back out to the location of our story last week on the grackles.  The trees that were filled with birds, were empty, and the keepers of the hawks that we showed in our story were there doing their thing.  So do these dang birds annoy y'all as much as they do me?  I went to Little Rd. and I-20, what other locations do the grackles gather?  What do you think about the hawks swooping in on these birds?  There were quite a few people who came there to watch it the night we did our story.

Those grackles are annoying birds. When I used to work in downtown Dallas, I noticed problems with the grackles from time to time. They would cause a big mess on the sidewalks and annoy people. Once on Halloween I was crossing the street near Commerce & Griffin and one of them swooped down and got so close to me I could see its eyes (angry looking things). I thought it was going to attack me (as in The Birds), but suddenly took off in another direction. They finally got a crew of guys who walked around clapping their hands and shining some sort of light at the birds. It was funny, but it worked as they eventually left (at least temporarily). I think the hawk system is a better method.

why do grackles like to hang around CITIES, when there are thousands of nice trees and lots of insects to eat in rural areas.

I think the birds seem to be confused these days because of the major weather changes. I have seen other strange things with the birds in the last few years, such as zillions of birds gathered on power lines on a heavily traveled street, other major collections of birds (not grackles) in trees downtown and they are always making a lot of noise. It's just weird.

I am a reporter for Fox-4. I've been here in North Texas for 10 years now. I love to hear from smart viewers who not only watch the news, but listen too. So with that said... send me your thoughts. Did I cover a story that moved you, angered you, made you smile, laugh, or look at our world in a different way? Let me know.
