Here I am, a rock-solid Republican. Voted for democrats only twice in my life: once for a college friend's father and once for Anne Richards.

I'm a Bush supporter. I stand....er stood four-square behind him. But I gotta warn him, you don't want me behind ya anymore Georgie Boy. I'm not normally a violent person, but this issue could change me in a heartbeat.

And what issue is that, you ask?

Let me put it this way. If the BLEEP**g Feds, under GW's aegis, decide to kill off our mustangs and burros, there's gonna be a range war like you never heard of. I'm gonna be out there in Big Sky country with rifles, bullets and whatever else it takes and the first fed frakie who shows up to knock off a mustang is gonna need a coffin for himself!!!!

GW, GW, say it ain't so! You're supposed to be a Texan, fer Pete's sake! HOW COULD YOU COUNTENANCE THIS DESECRATION!!!?

Unwrap the American flag old chum. Wrap youself in the black flag of death with the orange stripes of hypocrisy!!

SHAME ON YOU!!!

I don't know that I'd point a finger at the President, whoever he was. What is the reasoning behind killing them, you didn't say? Does seem rather dumb but a bureaucracy always is.
I don't really 'get' culling since nature does that best. Being a huge horse fan, it would be nice if they could live our their days where God placed them.
Lock'n load and we'll wave to you on the news.

There's 33,000 left of the original 2 million. The b******S of bureaucracy have decided that that's several thousand too many.

Personally I wish someone would declare open season on the bureaucrats! Line 'em up agin a wall and have some target practice. Better'n lawyers. They all squirm around so much it's hard to nail 'em.

Well, you know bureaucrats. They think there's too many of everything except their regulations and our tax money.

Would you rather them starve to death?
If good homes could be found for the over population that would be great.
I love horses have raised and trained them, but, I do know that only so many can be supported, on so uch land.
Do You have a good suggestion for keeping them from starving, and over populating where they live?

When the processing plants were closed, what did you expect would happen? All the refuges are full. You can adopt as many as you want. But I don't know who you have to contact.

LOL, they have been doing this for a long time and all for a good reason.

In 1971 Congress passed the Wild and Free-Roaming Horse and Burro Act, designed to preserve a living symbol of America's frontier past. Thirty years later, there are fewer wild horses than ever.
One hundred years ago an estimated two million mustangs roamed the Western range. But today there are fewer than 50,000, according to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). And the government has plans to reduce the herds even further—to just 27,000 by 2005.
Since 1971 nearly 159,000 horses have been gathered by the BLM. But a quarter of them never find homes. While the government has recently opened sanctuaries in Kansas and Oklahoma that can each take in 2,000 of the older "unadoptable" horses—horses that remain unclaimed after at least five auctions—there are, on average, 5,000 animals in BLM holding facilities at any given time.
"What to do with the animals that are removed from the range will always be a critical issue. It's unlikely even with aggressive advertising and promotion that we'll be able to find sufficient homes," said Linda Coates-Markle, who managed a BLM herd in the Pryor Mountains along the Wyoming and Montana border.

PS, stop blaming Bush for everything, I hope you know he was not the president in 1971.

A home for every horse would be the perfect world.
It takes at least an acre of land for a horse, and then you have hay and feed, and vet bills. We have people that won't take care of dogs and cats, and horses are not anything like a house pet.
They have few natural predators in the wild, like the cougar.

In Nevada they let the convicts capture and break wild mustangs then sell them. I think this is an excellent idea.

But stop blaming Bush for everything.

capturing and breaking them is great, if the convict knows what they are doing, It's not like training a dog, and not like jumping on and riding them till they quit bucking, that is only in the movies.
Then, who can afford to pay the adoption fees, transportation fees, and where to keep them.

For those who think the poor horsies are out there starving and euthanasia is sweet, I called some friends in Wyoming, Northern New Mexico and Montana.

33,000 horses spread over 11, count 'em eleven! states are NOT starving. My rancher friend in Montana says that his place has more than 200 running wild and free with his cattle and they're, according to him, "fat as flawns".

My geologist friend in Taos says that the Sangre de Christos holds about 8,000 over more than half a million acres and while they're not "fat as flawns", they are NOT starving, nor are they dropping like flies from disease.

My park Ranger friend in Wyoming says that there are two major herds in the Yellowstone and they're doing just dandy. The ranchers outside the park do not get all antsy when these animals come to visit like they do with the wolves and the bears, so neither the ranchers nor the horses are grating on each other's nerves.

According to them the REAL reason the bureaucrats want 'em all dead is that they're under pressure from certain mercantile interests who want to develop the wilderness and to do that they must first get rid of the critters who litter the landscape. Then they can make a case for not needing the wilderness to stay a wilderness for the sake of the wildlife because there ain't no more wildlife.

You gotta give these SOB's credit for planning ahead. What I wanta give 'em is bullet IN the head. And I reiterate, this IS GW's purview. HE'S the one who has the right stuff to bring this nefarious plan to a screeching halt for another 30 or 40 years.

So GET OFF
