For the past several years now, I have always enjoyed going to Barnes & Noble. This past weekend my hubby and I went to the Arlington Parks Mall and noticed that my all time favorite store had finally been completed and opened for business. This store has become my one stop shop for books, music, videos, etc. Not to mention the occasional stop for a fancy cup of coffee. (at Starbucks) This particular store is huge, compared to other stores that I have seen. To be honest, I almost felt like a kid turned loose in a candy store. I could easily go overboard on buying books, music and several other items in this store. I always have to remind myself to limit my purchases each time I visit. As I said, it is my all time favorite store. If your ever out at the Parks Mall in Arlington, you may want to check it out for yourself. I believe the store hours are: Mon.-Sat.-9a.m. to 11p.m. and Sun.-11a.m. to 9p.m.

A friend sent this to me several years ago and I thought I would share it.
Everyone who has a dog calls him "Rover" or "Boy." I call mine "Sex." He's a great pal, but he has caused me a great deal of embarrassment. When I went to the City Hall to renew his dog license, I told the clerk I would like a license for Sex. He said, "I'd like one too!" Then I said, "But this is a dog." He said he didn't care what she looked like. Then I said, "You don't understand, I've had Sex since I was 9 years old." He winked and said, "You must have been quite a kid." When I got married and went on my honeymoon, I took the dog with me. I told the motel clerk that I wanted a room for my wife and me and a special room for Sex. He said, "You don't need a special room. As long as you pay your bill, we don't care what you do." I said, "Look, you don't seem to understand, Sex keeps me awake at night." The clerk said, "Funny--I have the same problem." One day I entered Sex in a contest, but before the competition began, the dog ran away. Another contestant asked me why I was just standing there, looking disappointed. I told him I had planned to have Sex in the contest. He told me I should have sold my own tickets. "But you don't understand," I said, "I had hoped to have Sex on TV." He said, "Now that cable is all over the place, it's no big deal anymore." When my wife and I seperated, we went to court to fight for custody of the dog. I said, "Your Honor, I had Sex before I was married." The judge said, "The courtroom isn't a confessional. Stick to the case, please." Then I told him that after I was married, Sex left me. He said, "Me,too." Last night, Sex ran off again. I spent hours looking around town for him. A cop came over to me and asked, "What are you doing in this alley at 4 o' clock in the morning?" I told him that I was looking for Sex. My case comes up friday!

How many times have you sat down to write a story, then a word pops into your mind, and you think you know how to spell it? You begin to type it out and....uh-oh, that doesn't look right. Then you try spelling it a little differently, maybe add a letter here or subtract a letter there. Then......OH MY GOODNESS!! That DEFINATELY doesn't look right!! Just so you can avoid that dreadful time with Webster, you keep trying different ways of spelling it until you think you've got it right. I admit, at one time, that was me. Back in school, I use to be rather good in spelling. Now, it seems, over the years time has a way of changing things. I'm not so good at spelling as I once was. But...thanks to the good ol' dixshunairee, (uh-uhm) I mean, dictionary, or maybe I should say thanks to my friend, Webster, I can learn to spell those words that seem to trip me up occassionally. Yes, did you notice I just misspelled that word? (The correct spelling is o-c-c-a-s-i-o-n-a-l-l-y.) It's the bigger words that always seem to have me running to my friend Webster. What's your story? Does Webster seem to be your close friend at times?

News
With so much overwhelming bad news on tv, people killing one another, breaking and entering, road rage, etc., I find that I have to turn away from the news for a while. There are times, it seems, there is absolutely not one word of good news about hardly anything. Then there are other times that occasionally a bit of good news will mangae to come through. I usually enjoy watching the news because, like everyone else, I also want to stay informed. Maybe it's that I'm just too soft hearted. Every day there seems to be at least a couple of stories or more that, when I hear about them, I can't help but shed a few tears from all the sadness and bad things that happen. I don't know how the newscasters manage to get through some of the news stories they share without loosing it. I know that I couldn't do it. I'm sure their job can be tough at times. I have to say, I commend them all.

Does anyone remember when waterbeds use to be a popular thing? I never bought one, but I came close several times while trying them out. Some I remember, you could lay on and really feel the waves and also come a little close to feeling kind of woozy. Some were not too bad and had a little bit of firmness to them. Those were the ones I liked. Some also had heaters to help keep the water in the bed warm. A few times I came across baby beds that came with a waterbed in them. I knew some people who had bought waterbeds and later regretted it. They complained about it making them feel achey and sore. Not to mention always getting small leaks in them once in a while. As bad as I felt for them, it made me glad that I never gave in to the temptation of buying one. Give me a regular bed any day. If I want to be in the water, I can always go to a swimming pool or the lake! (hahaha) Did any of you buy a waterbed and later regret it, or did you always enjoy having one? If you did buy one, do you still have it and possible still use it? Some people just got rid of the waterbed matress and kept the frame and put a regular matress inside. What's your waterbed story?

When I used to work outside our home, as soon as I got home, I would change into my favorite kind of comfy clothes. In the winter, I love to slip into an over sized t-shirt and a pair of sweats. I like to wear them one size larger so they can be extra comfy. After all, it's just for around the house only. I also like to wear my comfy house shoes. They're the kind that are ankle high and are fuzzy on the inside. They really keep my feet nice and warm, especially when the weather gets really cold. In the summer time, there's nothing better than t-shirts and shorts. What are your favorite kind of comfy clothes?

I really enjoy watching the Purina Dog Challenge Show. I like all the events, especially the free style flying disc competition. There are so many talented dogs out there! This year a Pitbull won the free style flying disc competition. That's the first time I've seen a pitbull in any of those competitions. But if the dog is qualified, what ever kind it may be, then I say give them the chance and see how they do. Some of the other competitions include, The obsticle course, The fastest small dog competition, and finally the water jumping competition, where each dog takes a short running start and jumps as far as they can into a deep, long pool of water. This event is for the bigger dogs only. I've never seen small dogs in this one. The dogs owners are always right there by their side helping them through in each of the competitions. I thought the show was really interesting and fun to watch. Does anyone else enjoy watching the dog competition shows?

What are some of your favorite winter time foods or meals? You know, the ones that hit the spot on those really cold days? One of our favorites is one that lots of people like, chilli with beans and lots of cheddar cheese on top. That always seems to hit the spot on a cold day. Another favorite is one my Mother-in-law makes, which is chicken and rice with tomato sauce. I also make that one sometimes. That one is sooo good on a winters day or any day. Another one of her favorites is chicken with squash and corn. It can also be made with pork instead of chicken, if you prefer. Serve that with some corn or flour tortillas, and you've got a great tasting meal sure to warm the soul. So what are some of your favorite winter time meals?

Did anyone see David Letterman and Conan O'brien in those beards? David Letterman looked ok, but Conan? I've always thought of him as having a babyface look. That beard sure changed THAT look! I just hope that Jay Leno doesn't decide to follow along. I know, that's their choice. What do you think about their beards?

Although I give thanks each and every day for all those things that are most important to me, Thanksgiving is a time to me to be even more thankful. I'm thankful that our families have made it through one more year together. At times when I've had to deal with a close family illness or a death, I am so very thankful my husband and son and other close family members were there to help me through. In good times or bad our family has always managed to stay strong and be there for one another. I have to say, that of all the "things" I have, the ones that are most important to me are family and friends. They are the ones that make the most difference. They are the ones that truly count. I also want to say that I am very thankful for all of you that I have "met" here. December will mark my one year anniversary on here and thanks to all of you, I have truly enjoyed being here. I want to also wish everyone a very Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving.

What does your Thanksgiving dinner consist of? Ours is almost always the same each year. My mother-in-law usually has the turkey cooked to a nice golden brown and nice and tender. I usually make a big pan of cornbread dressing which I always mix in some cooked chicken, celery and onions. It seems I can never make enough of that each year. Then we have the gravy for the turkey and dressing. Actually we use the famous can of cream of chicken. Next, are a pot of green beans. Nothing fancy, we just put them in the pan and cut up some onions and tomatoes and let them cook with the green beans until the onions are soft and clear. Then of course we have a pot of kernel corn and as always black eye peas. We have the peas at Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. I saved one of my favorites for last. Cranberry sauce. But its got to be the smooth kind. Is there anyone here that doesn't like cranberry sauce? I have a brother-in-law that doesn't like it at all. Sorry, I just have to have that with my meal. Lastly, our dessert. We always have a couple of pies, pumpkin pie and apple pie. Top it off with vanillia ice cream and you've got it made. What do you make for your Thanksgiving meal?

Which do you prefer? For the longest time I used an electric can opener. I always had a hard time getting the can to stay in the slot where the can opener is supposed to open the can when it rotates. UGH!! Not to mention if I had a bigger than usual size can to open. After time and time again of battling with this electric can opener, I've finally decided to buy a hand held. I now no longer dread opening a can... not to mention my nerves are no longer shot. What do you prefer when it comes to can openers?

Paddy and his two friends are talking at a bar. His first friend says, "I think my wife is having an affair with the electrician. The other day I came home and found wire cutters under our bed and they weren't mine." His second friend says, "I think my wife is having an affair with the plumber. The other day I found a wrench under the bed and it wasn't mine." Paddy says, "I think my wife is having an affair with a horse." Both of his friends look at him in utter disbelief. "No, I'm serious. The other day I came home and found a jocky under our bed!"
