With so much overwhelming bad news on tv, people killing one another, breaking and entering, road rage, etc., I find that I have to turn away from the news for a while. There are times, it seems, there is absolutely not one word of good news about hardly anything. Then there are other times that occasionally a bit of good news will mangae to come through. I usually enjoy watching the news because, like everyone else, I also want to stay informed. Maybe it's that I'm just too soft hearted. Every day there seems to be at least a couple of stories or more that, when I hear about them, I can't help but shed a few tears from all the sadness and bad things that happen. I don't know how the newscasters manage to get through some of the news stories they share without loosing it. I know that I couldn't do it. I'm sure their job can be tough at times. I have to say, I commend them all.

That's because "we love dirty laundry." No one wants to hear about a plane landing safely (George Carlin). It's a sign of the times!

Quite the contrary, Dak. People DO love bad news. That's why cars are lined up miles deep aropund an accident. They can't wait to see what is happening! There may be blood! Gore (not Al, though that's wishful thinking)! Mayhem! Bad news sells because people clamor for it.

It makes me sick when the latest celebrity gossip can pass as news. The media has an almost pornographic obsession with hollywood dirt, A-list stars, has beens, would be's, and rehab rejects. I don't know about the rest of you, but I really couldn't give 2 fricks about Brangelina's new gajillion dollar estate, let alone having to see that kind of BLEEP on the news.

Justin, I can't help but agree. These buttlicks get way too much attention over the dumbest things.

I agree, Justin and Phil. That's why my wife and I enjoy the irerverent humor of TMZ. They dig up the dirt on celebs and show them in their follies, proving the y're no better than the rest of us, just lucky and wealthy.

Back2Nature the sad part of it all is that when you turn on the evening news and see "Breaking News" flash across the screen that it's not something that we'd like to see. I'm still awaiting for "Breaking News" Oil prices have dropped down to $10.00 a barrel. Guess you can forget that ever happening in our life times huh?

Great post, B2N!

I didn't get too depressed watching the news until after the 9/11 attacks. For weeks I was glued to the TV set, the depression set in, and the next thing I knew I was at my doctor's office wanting some sleeping pills. The good doctor suggested that I not watch the news right before I go to bed, and it worked for awhile. Then I went through my obsession with TMZ, I just couldn't get to bed until I had my nightly dose of it. Thankfully, that too has passed.
