Veterans and 9-1-1

It is incredibly frustrating when we cannot help someone who desperately needs it. I think most people who contact FOX4 think we can solve just about any problem. Most of the time we can do something to help and viewers are always so grateful when we do. This situation with the VA has me stumped.  We talked to the VA secretary and he promised to look into it. Then he resigned. Our Congresswoman is frustrated.  What does it take? We will continue to do stories as long as there are people out there who need help. Anyone with a fiduciary at the VA needs to contact us. Anyone who has a problem with the level of care they are getting at the VA needs to contact us. I will continue to listen and try to help.

On another note, we are getting calls and emails about problems with the 9-1-1 service. I am curious if anyone has had any troubles getting calls answered promptly or had trouble getting ambulence service. Let me know.

To be honest with ya Becky, you dont need to have anyone contact you, just walk in and look around and talk to the patients. They will tell horror stories that will baffle you. Being a known member of the media, naturally you would have to disguise yourself in some way but if you can get in, in say a volunteer status, you will get the scoop your looking for, provided it doesnt get censored by big brother.

Becky one of our bloggers was put in the VA yesterday for heart and kidney surgery. That will be done tomorrow (Wednesday).
Tomorrow morning I will be picking up his wife (another blogger) and taking her there so she can be with him during this surgery.
I will take notes and let you know what I see.

I was just informed that the VA doesn't feed you anything but liquids. Ok he's going in for a major surgery and has been on liquids for the past two days so is a bit grumpy.

The other blogger and I have made out our plan of PI work. They will never suspect us but I think I will refuse the part about checking out the food.

Going in again tomorrow.

I cannot believe they way men and women who proudly served this country are treated at the VA. I saw with my own eyes. Very disturbing.

I have worked at Fox4 for the past 16 years. What I like best about investigative reporting is feeling like we are a voice for the community and helping people get issues resolved. We get hundreds of emails every day and while we cannot answer all of them or focus on them for stories, we try to help people or point them in the right direction.
