BlogofAllBlogs's Blog

by BlogofAllBlogs from All of North Texas

Last Post 665 days, 5 hours Ago

Like I wrote yesterday, we started this blog to write about other blogs here in North Texas, and there are many very good ones. As this project evolves over the next few weeks, we hope this blog will become a daily must-read, so you can keep up with what your neighbor-bloggers are saying. Right now we're just feeling our way around. I wrote yesterday that we'll be making a list of all the blogs we know about in the area, and write daily summaries of the best posts of these outside blogs.  Today we're going to try to find a couple of good blogs in the Fort Worth area.

I started with the local newspaper, the Star-Telegram, which is a good paper.  But who knows whether we'll actually read a printed paper in a few years, so the Star-T is pretty smart by developing good online content, and they have a good site.  But trying to find a real blog on their site wasn't easy.  I saw a Rangers blog up front, and it links to a Typepad (blogging software for you blog-newbies) site.  No graphics, no pictures, but they're trying to deliver updated news and bits from spring training.   Nothing fancy.

The better blog on their site is The Kingpin of Cowtown.  Lots of photos, and good ones too.  This blogger gets it.  Here's a pretty photo from their site, of yesterday's fog.

If you're a Fort Worther of any sort, this blog is good reading.  We'll be keeping up.

The Star-T editors have another blog called "Explain Yourself".  Another boring Typepad generic design (don't they have artists), but if you want to discuss the weightier issues of the day, here's where you go.

I had trouble finding all these blogs on their site -- they're not well advertised among all the headlines.  And when I searched for the word "blog" in their search engine, the best it could do was ask me if I really wanted to search for the word "bloc"?  Uh no.

Moving on.  I'm now trying to find other blogs that are focused on Fort Worth, but I'm not having any luck.  I've gone through several pages of Google searches and can't find anything that's truly organic (Fort Worth-focused) and truly a blog.  The FW Weekly mag has good content and it's updated frequently, but I don't see a true blog.  Since this is the Blog of All Blogs, I'm looking for blogs.  Do you know of any in Fort Worth that I'm missing?

We'll see you next week!

The Trinity Project got a little airtime on our channel this week, not as much as it deserved.  it's going to be a big issue in the May elections, particularly for the mayor's race.  DallasProgress has written a long post today, which is required reading, I think, for those who have a stake in the river.  Which by the way, we all do, in one way or another.

And this is a couple of days old, but staying in Dallas, here's required reading for the upcoming mayor's election.  DallasBlog's story about how the well-funded candidate Darrell Jordan appears to be eschewing mainstream media to go directly to the voters for his campaign.  The other night he held a TeleTownHall meeting, which involved cold-calls to thousands of registered voters (yes, that's legal), inviting them to join a real-time conference call in which you could listen to Darrell answer questions from the "audience".

This is just a start.  Future posts will be longer.  More to come.  Next up, we'll give some lovin' to Fort Worth and the bloggin' in Cowtown.  Plano, Arlington, Garland, Denton, Flower Mound ... we know you're blogging too!

We're launching a new blog here on myFOXdfw.com, and this new blog has a very specific focus -- other peoples' blogs!  We have well over 6,000 blogs going here on myFOXdfw.com, but there are great blogs elsewhere in North Texas.   That's why we're calling this the "Blog of All Blogs".

If you see something smart, funny, creative on another blog, let us know about it, and we'll tell others about it here.  If you have a local blog and want us to check it out, post a comment here.

To get your started, here are some of the most popular blogs around here, and some of our favorites:

FrontBurner (DMagazine's snarky alterego)

Unfair Park (Dallas Observer)

DallasBlog.com (lots of familiar faces and good journalism)

UncleBarky's Bytes (everyone's favorite local TV critic)

Dallas Progress (the southern Dallas point of view)

GordonKeith.com (he's one of North Texas's funniest guys ... his blog is not for children or for the timid or the meek)

These are just a few of our favorites. We'll be adding more and more in the days to come. Post a comment if you'd like us to check out your blog. We'll add it to our list.

By the way, a new site called Placeblogger is keeping score of all local-news-information blogs out there. The site lists 88 local-focused Texas blogs and that list is growing.
