It happens about a half dozen times a year and each time it befuddles me how it could happen.  Here's a newswriter snippit of the latest incident this afternoon:

A DART TRAIN HIT A CAR DURING THE NOON RUSH IN DOWNTOWN DALLAS.

IT HAPPENED NEAR THE FOX 4 STUDIOS AT NORTH GRIFFIN STREET AND PACIFIC AVENUE.

WITNESSES SAY THE TRAIN WAS GOING NORTH AND THE CAR MADE A WIDE RIGHT TURN INTO THE TRAIN.

THE DRIVER OF THE CAR GOT OUT O-K.

HE DID NOT WANT TO TALK.... BUT A PASSENGER ON THE TRAIN DESCRIBED THE EXPERIENCE AS NERVE-WRACKING.

I bet he did.  This goes without saying but please PLEASE never try to beat a train!

I have never so much as come close to a D.A.R.T. train in my cars. It is baffling to me at times how and why people get into wrecks with them.

I don't think people would be trying to beat the train if they ever looked at what happens to the person who is hit.

I thought driving poorly was a sign of normalcy in Dallas.

I know exactly why there so many people getting
hit by trains. It means that Father Darwin is doing his work culling the herd. Anyone who is in that much of a hurry to get somewhere and is willing to get hit by a train on the way was too
stupid to live anyway.

Welcome to the chopper zone! If you're new to the area let me introduce myself. My job for FOX 4: Be the eyes that guide you to the traffic troubles around the Metroplex! I'm a Texan through and through--born in Austin, raised in North Texas with a degree from TCU. My wife and I have been married for 12 years and we have 2 kids. I love playing golf and watching all sports. I also like to sing and play guitar. My secret goal? Someday I'd love to build my own golf course....but having the ability to retire on one would be great too! If there's anything I can do to help you plan routes through this busy part of Texas please let me know and as always: have a "Good Day!"
