A Dawg's eye view

By making it illegal to discriminate against same-sex couples and allow them to join their lives legally California has taken a big step forward, joining states like Massachusetts, Vermont, and Connecticut.

Religious arguements aside (and please if you are against it for RELIGIOUS reasons don't bother to comment, that arguement is played and can easily be rebutted with logic and common sense), there really is no reason why our homosexual brothers and sisters cannot enjoy their lives and join them legally if that is what they wish. It is good to actually see some progress in the way we treat other people, especially people that are not like us and do not believe like we do.

Eventually, even here in Texas, all Americans regardless of race, religion, sex, sexual orientation etc. will enjoy the same rights and priveledges. That day may be a long-time coming, but it WILL get here. There is no longer any way for anyone to justify this kind of blatant bigotry and discrimination. No arguement that holds water. We have come a long way with women's rights, and the rights of minorities, but we still have a long way to go before we are all-inclusive. This step for California is a step in the right direction, and I hope to see other states shirking off the old and tired excuse for discriminatory practices, and embracing what is right for all of us, all Americans.

What about what the people voted for, Mr. Dawg?

It may appear forward to you, my friend, but I concur with Halo that it is wrong in that it circumvents the will of the people. In this case, it is a step backwards.

The right direction... that would be the 'left' direction.
Fact is the vast majority for the citizens & voters of this country (about 80%) do NOT WANT gay marriage. It was so VOTED by the ppl of California. And a handful of 'activist judges' versed the people's will! YOU think that's progress? The people have said no time and again, yet activist on the left always run to activist judges to over rule the ppl.

It's a shame, what the country has come to. Ungodliness is now mandated by the state of CA.

I believe I heard your blog comments on the blogs, Ms Chardoney.

I will have to agree with you that they are activist judges. They are forcing this against the will of the people. What a shame.

What good does it do to put something to the vote of the people if some yahoo is going to deny what the people want for what he wants?

Time for the voters to start SCREAMIMG UNCONSTITUTIONAL to overturn the votes.

Oh. lord...really, you're going to use Adam and Steve??? Really?? There was a time, not too long ago, that the will of the people in many states would have kept segregation legal and not much longer ago than that to keep slavery legal. Was that right? I am thankful that the courts in California have overturned this, and can only pray that it will continue in other states.

With that reasoning, Mr. Moriaty, shall we not then abolish the marijuana laws? I mean, it is safer than alcohol. And what about the immigration laws? Your opinion, please.

Thank you, Halo. Well, I'm referencing Civil Rights of American citizens....so, to answer your question on the marijuana laws, yes. And, this is the same court that was the first to overturn the laws against inter-racial marriage, which was illegal until just 40 years ago. I will ask you, then, were the court decisions overturning segregation and inter-racial marriage not a step forward?

You ever notice when liberals try and spin things how screwed up they get their so-called facts? First of all more people where against slavery than was for slavery. That’s why we had a civil war. More states and territories were against slavery than for. The fact that MORE people were against slavery ( 70%) is why it was abolish in the first place. OK, spin one taken care of. Ok spin two; pretty much the same reason segregation is no longer with us as I explained above. The majority of the people didn’t want it?

I wish these liberals would first read a book or two before they start spouting out this garbage they get for Sorso and his website.

It's much easier to follow their real god, George Soros.

Not familiar with George Soros, so I'm not in on the joke, sorry. And, I guess I imagined what went on at the University of Alabama and Little Rock when they desegregated, coolone?

We are making progress. I can remember the anti sodomy laws. It hasn't been that long ago that a young woman who tried to join the DPD was denied because she was gay. We now havea gay sherrif and last year a gay man ran for mayor without one word of his sexual orientation being mentioned during the race.Rulings like this do a variety of things, while they may expand gayrights they also bring out the nut jobs ranting and raving about homosexuality being a sin. It varies between amusing me and just plain making me angry. Tonight I'm feeling more tolerant and amused than anything else. We are all entitled to our opinions and I guess we'll find out if we're right when we die. Tolerence, what a concept, I wish more people would ytry it.

I am glad you are amused for now, momcat. Your rebellion is noted. God is not mocked.

Couples in California already have a TON of laws protecting couples of any sex. The point was that the people of California voted overwhelmingly to take a stand against making it "official" and 4 judges mocked the will of the people. This is not what justices are for - in fact the 3 dissenting judges made it perfectly clear that they are not there to be activists. California has just gone against the wills of most for the wants of a few.

I am all for treating gays as humans, of course. What I am against is the activist judges mocking the will of the people, and of God.

Note to momcat: Just because a man says it is permissable, does not make either abortion (murder) or gay sex (homosexuality) legal in God's eyes.

Wow! Ceases to amaze me how easily people jump on the "God says its sin" bandwagon. Again, I asked for the religious views to be left out because your religious views don't matter, people's rights are what matters.

The people who gained the right to marry were being held back by people who wanted to keep them from being recognized as equal. The judges made the right decision, and California made progress. There was no "mockery". If you think you have the "right" to hold someone back because of what you think about them, then you don't deserve the right to vote on it.

The fact is that we have made great strides and great progress in recognizing the rights of people that were previously considered "less than". And we will continue to make those strides forward. Those of you that judge, and oppress are going the way of the dinosaur, and none too soon.
