I'm 66 years old, and have smoked for 48 years,  this is suppoes  to be a free country, constitution gauarantees, life liberty, and the pursuit of happiness , should be room for all of us with out it being a problem , all this commotion over seconf hand  smoke, is just that, commotion, EPA came out with their report stating it was hazardous to health, they didn't  tell anyone, the had to alter all their rules to  make it qualify, a circuit court judge in New York, threw out their  for lck of facts , and proper procedure.  I have a copy of that  decision .  all this does is give government the right to tell it's citizens how to live , they are already talking about banning foods, and telling us how to eat, wat's next, alcohol, food , should ban automobiles, the largest polluters on the world, one deisel engine uses as much air in a day, as 3 million people , so i don't think My cigarette is gonn pollute much ,  then all those  that think it would be nice, think about  the taxes, if everyone quit, sales tax would probably go up another 2or3 cents to replace it, and then I wouldn't have to pay for everyone else's healthcare,  if they want to ban smoking , that's ok, I'll just not eat out anymore, or go to bars to fo  dancing, , Washington state has almost killed the bar business , I can drink at home much cheaper anyway but at least all the non smokers that  don't like smoke can go  anywhere, , funny I raised My kids with My smoking, and Iwas raised with it, and they are all fine, and so am I, damn, i should be dead, hell, maybe I am, and just don't know it, (laughing

I personally like the laws against smoking in a park or other outdoor venue. You can be a two hundred yards from the next nearest human and be ticketed for smoking.

Where this all leads to is the bill recently introduced in MS by three MS lawmakers that would ban the obese from eating in any state licensed restaurant.

When you give the government the power to say this is bad but legal but then make it illegal and yet still a legal product, then in time the government will use that same power over anything that anyone considers bad.

People are already trying to push for Social Services to get involved in parents lives if the kids are fat. Taking away the parents right to raise their kids - making it a government responsibility would really suck.

I wish that alcohol was treated the way smoking is. I don't know a smoker that smokes then goes home and beats the crud out of the wife and kids but a hell of a lot of drinkers do...but too many politicians drink - will never happen.

The wholse state of Illinois is smoke free, NO exceptions like for bars, and casinos. You know what, their business looks just as robust as ever. It was -8 degrees with a -25 wind chill, and folks would leave the bar to go have a smoke. Sounds about right to me. If you have to have a cig, go outside. If I have to BLEEP or fart, I'll wait until I use the restroom. Not that I CAN'T do that, but it is the curtious thing to do. That is all we are asking, be curtious.

oh that'm so everyone has equaal access, instead of locking out a segment of the society ?s fine, so what is wrong with it being places that have smoking and places that don't, so both segments have places they can go , doesn't seem very democratic, to have it all one way , what's wrong with choice ??

In response, I look just fine, I'm 66 years old, and am in good health , according to My Doctor, that wantssa physical every year, just had a stress scho last summer, and the Doc said he hoped His heart was as good as mine , when He was My age, seems you have a very dim outlook on smokers, as a matter of fact, I've known non smokers, that would kill to be as healthy as I am , *shakes head*

DAK tell us all how you alone have defied the effects of cigarettes? the wrinkles around the mouth, the dark lungs, the smell? if a hundred ppl all age 45 or so, smokers and non-smokers alike are lined up it's easy to look at them and pin point the smokers (except for you apparently).

well, I guess we are all different, I do not remember anyone in My family, that ever wrinkled around the lips, heredity, I guess, My grandaad died at 92, still a smoker, for 80 years, as for the smell, there are a lot of odors, that I don't necessarily like, but I don't make a big deal of them, body odor is one, bur what people do to cover it is almost worse than the odor, I grew up on the farm, shoveling animal waste is bad, the smell is far worse than the smell of cigarettes, I equate this to if some people are in wheel chairs, shouldn't we all be , so we don't offend them ? role your window down in rush hour traffic on the freeway, and smell the unleaded gas fumes, and knowing that in an hour of that you inhale about the dane anount of Co2 you would from a whole carton of cigarettes, but i don't see anyone wanting to ban driving cars, *smiles*

You keep right on defending your right to needlessly poison your lungs and I'll keep cheering the non-smoking laws.

Smokers are a great example of "survival of the fittest."

yes they are, thanks for the commendation, most should realize, majority of lung problems, are caused by very poor breathing habits, and failure to breathe deep enough to fully inflate the lungs, resulting in the bottom portion to become dormant, and then rot, I guess I just breathe right , *smiles*

Ok lets not make it a "looks" issue. I have smoked for 13 yrs and just guess my age (I have a pic). I will tell you if your right. However there are places where smokeing should not be allowed i.e. parks, sperting events, anywhere you are in close proximity to the person next to you! However places like bars, casinos, and bowling alleys should have a seperate vented smokeing area!

WOW!!!! so ya wanna exile smokers, the dreded scourge of the earth, the people that built this country, My Oh My , how quick and ungrateful people become , especially when the dangers of second hand smoke aren't as they seem , I hope I never fear the world qas it is that much, *shakes head*

DAK413 my post is not about exile but about the truth. #1 the smell is AWEFUL wished I didn't smoke! #2 You don't have to believe the 2nd hand smoke stuff but it does effect people. And what about those that already have lung or breathing problems? You are in a sence messing with their health! All I am saying is there are some places smokeing should not be allowed and others that is should be seperated from non smokers!

oh, that's just great, just becuz I'm healthy , I have to live a restricted life, to make the less fortunate , feel better, must be socialism at work , wow, what a free country , might as well crawl into a wheel chair now, before all the do gooders decide everyone shold be as handicapped as the ones that are !! course that sounds right, in this country they want the rich to give their wealth to the less fortunate, it amounts to the same thing !!

I did not say anything about your health but as a smoker I can say it is unhealthy! And you are nieve if you think that OUR smokeing around non-smokers is healthy for them! It has nothing to with anything except RESPECT! I don't like haveing to go outside and smoke but I respect other peoples rights not to be subjected to my bad habbit in PUBLIC places. Public means a place in view of people as a whole! I don't believe we have the right to mess with other peoples health and welfare! So if I have to go outside than I will and you should too if for nothing but RESPECT!

oh, I respect them, and smoke is not a health hazaed othe than to someone with breathing problems, I usually just stay away from places i can't smoke, that's respect isn't it, but i resent Myh right to live my life as I see fir to be infringed on , and it does, i also have a handicap from a work injury, but I don't ask anyone to make any special concessions for me, either

I used to suck BUTTz aka Smoke but Jesus Christ answered my often prayer to deliver me from their bondage. One morning when i was about to go smoke the "still small strong notion of a voice" said to me "You are free". With cigarettes in my hand I reasoned 'If I don't crave them I won't smoke them". that has been maybe 12 years ago and i have never again craved them. indeed "whom the Son makes free is free indeed." True story".

what is so funny about all this, is people feed all the poisins to their baby's and don't feed them good healthy food, then run them t the Dr. and pump them full of antibiotics, that kill the immune system, and then blame everyone else becuz their kids are sick, go figure , and that people worry about a little cigarette smoke, then get in their car and hit the freeway, and will inhale asmuch carbon monoxide in a couple hours equivalent to inhaling 2 0r 3 cartons of cigarettes, and then blame their health problems on smokers, go figure, I guess ignorance is bliss, *smiles*
