There are currently 2 separate TORNADO watches in effect in North Texas. The first runs from roughly Gainesville south to Weatherford south to Stephenville and covers all points west of there. That Watch goes until 9pm. The second TORNADO watch covers the northeastern third of North Texas, essentially Denton, Collin, and Hunt counties north to the Red River and is in effect until Midnight.

Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms will continue to develop this evening, mainly north of DFW. These storms will be capable of producing large hail up to 3" in diameter, damaging winds up to 70mph, and perhaps a few isolated tornadoes. However, the "main event" will likely not unfold until after midnight. That's when a line of strong to severe thunderstorms forming just ahead of a cold front will likely push south of the Red River, and then slowly march south through North Texas overnight. These storms will bring torrential rain, frequent lightning, and the possibility of damaging winds and large hail to much of North Texas.

At this time, it appears the severe weather threat will end for much of North Texas by 7 am Friday. However, areas south and east of DFW may still see the threat of strong storms through mid-morning Friday. Much cooler air will then filter in behind the front for Friday afternoon with temps only reaching the low to mid 60s.

As Chief Meteorologist for FOX 4, I am proud to lead the finest team of meteorologists in Texas. Aside from my forecasting responsibilities here at FOX 4, I also keep North Texans abreast of our ever-changing weather with daily forecasts that can be heard on AM 570 KLIF, and seen at all Rangers home games at Ameriquest Field. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time at home with my wife and children, and rooting for JoePa and the Nittany Lions on Fall Saturdays!
