Day2's Blog

I admit I'm not a scientist.  I don't know the last thing about DNA reproduction, but eating a cow that's been cloned on purpose or without my knowledge (perhaps served at a restaraunt) just scares the living daylights out of me.

How can the FDA claim that cloned meat or products is safe to consume if we "just started cloning" animals.  I think I'm going to have a hard time making sure my family and I don't eat these products since it appears that there will be no regulation to "label cloned products" - EEK!

I don't understand the fascination of cloning food animals; isn't it cheaper for them to reproduce the natural way?

cbfan: I asked my colleague who's son is a cattleman and he said it doesn't make any sense as to why someone would want to clone cows. He said the cost to do so is very expensive. He said it has nothing to do with the quality of the meat. My thought is that since it cost so much to produce this type of cow and since the good ol FDA is not requiring them to label the meat that eventually the price of beef will start going up because the cattle ranchers (that is doing this process) will start to claim they are not making money off of their investment and we the public will start to feel the pinch. Well, I don't eat beef too much but I have started looking for cattle ranches in TX that raise their cows the way GOD intended and I will go to the local butcher shop that sell their products and buy a half of cow like my daddy use to do and keep it in the deep freezer. I am also going to start buying my produce directly from local farmers & farmers markets because the FDA has proven to me that they don't care about our health or lifespan. I just pray that Whole Foods & Central Market keep the chicken, turkey & seafood (I wish we had the access to local seafood markets) they buy fresh & not tampered. I hope to eliminate the big chain grocers & proccessed products from my shopping list all together and stay all natural. It's more costly but like I said I am gradually heading that way and I believe my body will thank me as I age.

I drink diet coke and do a lot of other unhealthy eating habits...I haven't grown a third arm yet...but something about eating this stuff...urgh...I say the FDA people can eat it for a while and give it to their families. If everything is fine after 20 years or so, I'll re-consider.

Ya, I'm not for "cloned meat" until:

a) years and years of testing have been done on it.

and/or

b) we suddenly have a cow shortage and it's a priority for the continuation of the human race having hamburgers.

Other than that, I'll stick with my naturally created beef.

When I was a little girl and my mom and I went to Paris, TX to see my great grandmother before she passed away, we would see cows in the pastures. I would tell her that the white cows made white milk and the black and brown cows make chocolate milk. She asked me, "What if we come across a pink cow, what kind of milk to they make?" I replied, "Pink?" As if to say, "Duh, hello, Pink milk comes from Pink cows... don't you know that?!" The only way anyone would see a pink cow is if they were either really really high or if they took a whole bunch of pink spray paint cans and went to work. That would be a sight... Imaging the milk coming from the cow with all the paint going through the blood stream. Yuck! PINK!!! Not Strawberry flavor.

I will not knowingly eat anything cloned.

Well, they have said it won't be necessary to put on the packaging that it's cloned. So, unknowingly, you probably would eat it.

Well I love red meat and will probably end up with a third arm or leg.

I don't understand the NEED for this. Unless there is a meat shortage WHY do we need this.

I find it unthinkable that they can be allowed to sell it without labeling it "cloned meat". I signed a petition about this very subject in my email protesting the non-labeling of this meat.
