I took a break from blogging for a while mainly because I had alot of school work but I am coming back because of this. After reading all these blogs about how surprised all these white people are that blacks have a cynical, negative and conspiracy driven view of whites I wonder how ignorant white people are of both black culture and racial divisions which continue in this country. I do not agree with what Reverend Wright said but alot of what he said is a general view by black america. If people do not understand why they hold this view you are truly ignorant. All conspiracy theories come from somwhere. Discontent with the effects of 9/11 led to the conspiracy theories just as discontent with oppurtunities for black americans and continuing racism leads to this type of anger. Racism is still widespread in america according to recent surveys. Americans cannot act out their racism due to political correctness but it hovers just beneath the surface of our society. Maybe that is why so many blacks think they can't get jobs heck maybe their right part of the time. I do not know. I just find it silly that so many people are so surprised when a racialeconomic group that is so far down the economic ladder is so angry. What is even stupider is that people are blaming a man who is part of the group for listening to this guy. Oh well good old fashioned guilt by association we will never learn. Always letting others define us instead of being allowed to define ourselves.

You make a good point on a subject I have dwelled on.
However I disagree on a few points, & would like to add some comments.
First, I am no more racist than any other person, regardless of color, but I think there are points to this that need to be realized due to political corectness.

White people brought black savages over here
early in our developement to work.
These people were generally ignorant, undomesticated beings that were happy to have a roof over their head, & food provided.
This accomodation worked pretty well, but there were atrocities committed on both sides.
As in any society, there were those blacks that were exremely happy, & those that were extremely unhappy!
When you look at it now, it appears to be much worse than it was then, since we are a free world.
As society developed, all the races through education, & slavery could no longer exist.

The white race NOW, has NO responsibility to anyone for the situation that existed 150 years ago.
Whites have made every effort to educate & bring equality into the system for all races.
Now that we have a REALLY good system, where there is equality, SOME of the black race wants not only equality, but the chance to run the show, to get their {piece of the pie}.
i.e.{In a government, business, household, the leaders usually benefit more than the subordinates, so they have it better
They also have the responsibility to keep the operation stable.}
I (for one) have been acceptable to let those who are capable run the show, & let me make my own way.
You have to have certain qualities to be successful,

not just the desire!
It is my belief that ALL people HAVE to put the past BEHIND them, & elect the BEST leaders we can, based on their track record, & let each of us pursue our goals according to our abilities!
Retribution is NOT the answer!
We should have learned from the Democrats & Republicans that taking turns getting your slice of the pie, is NOT good for the masses!

People should be judged on their own ability, morals, & acomplishments, NOT their skin color, & we have to move forward as a nation under God--with out racism on BOTH sides!

“History is written by the victor.” It is a quote that I’ve heard before, though I am not sure who said it.

You see…I think it is unfair for anyone to think that Africans were, “black savages”. Just as I feel it is unfair for anyone to refer to the American Indian, the true owners of America, as “red savages.” To refer to a race of people who are not as advanced as their counterparts as savages is a poor form, untrue and unfair. Even more laughable is the notion that, “These people were generally ignorant, undomesticated beings that were happy to have a roof over their head, & food provided.”

In Africa, individual tribes had their own forms of communication. They had a hierarchy in their tribes. Not all tribes of Africa were poor and starving. Indeed, many were flourishing and rich in their own right. (And let us not forget that all people in this world, at one time, were hunters and gatherers. The fact that some evolved to a more complex way of existence before others does not brand the latter as savages. Some would consider the pilgrims savages considering they would have perished if not for the aid of the Native Americans.)

To think that some Africans were, “extremely happy,” with the idea of being beaten, drug from their homes and forced into a life of servitude for the entirety of their lives is just ridiculous. I’m disappointed to even repeat that text even now. How could anyone think that?

Now, whereas I have said before that I believe that all people are responsible for their own lots in life during our present time…I have to also say that

where some reparations should be expected by the black community. Why? Well, let me give an example before answering that question. The Jewish community has received reparations in parts since the holocaust. There are news stories here and there regarding war criminals that are, even today, being brought to crime to answer for the atrocities they inflicted on the Jewish people.

Now, let’s look at the Black community. There are families who are filthy rich to this day due in large part, if not completely to the slave labor of Africans. There were deaths in the thousands and more, directly attributed to the slave trade. Just being brought here from African, many of the Africans died because of the beatings and poor treatment.

Again, I must say that I believe that we are individuals are responsible for our own lives and what we do presently. But as for why Black America is upset and has been for a long time? Well, I can understand that too.

I was hoping you would respond foe, because I respect your opinion, & think of you as a articulate black man.
It is important to understand how "most" people of both races feel, whether right or wrong.
Though I consider you a wonderful person, I think you are GROSSLY wrong on these ideas.
You cannot group races of people, (even though we ALL do) but I assure you the slaves of that era had little formal education, a low IQ, & THAT makes them savages--regardless of color!

(At least my connotation of savage!)
As a young man, I lived with sharecroppers (who were just a decendancy of slavery), as they were totally dependant on the owner.
They could not do anything wiothout asking!
Slaves committed atrocious crimes, usually the reason for the beatings!
People don't just best people for fun--they do it when their orders are ignored--
The question being --DO they have a right to order?

(Not much difference in army or penal/ institutional form of life we have now?)
Having endured all of these, I can teatify as to the accuracy!
(I will admit there are no beatings in the army, but severe punishments--)
Most slaves WERE happy--BECAUSE they didn't KNOW any better! If they had a good owner--they considered it a paradise.
Only after time, where they became better educated, did they see that they could have the same life, & slavery was not going to exist!

Reparation?
Jesus christ--
I don't owe them ANYTHING-
I owe them the respect that they show they deserve--just as they do me!
The Jews deserve NOTHING!
The people who did what they did--were killed!
ONE susvivor--was recently tried or going to be-- after 40-50 years--& they found him!
Even their ancestors consider that regime a mistake!

THAT--is the MAIN problem!!!

There are wealthy white people & black people.
There are hardworking intelligent middleclass white & black people.
There are low class trashy, lazy white & black people.
Right now we have the white wealthy class draining us dry!
The lower class wants to get in power, & drain us dry!
The illegals are draining the country dry!
The upper/lower middle class who support this country are the ones getting ripped off!!!
The handicapped/senior citizens are getting a check!
IF--YOU work--have a job--you are the VICTIM-
If you have a business, or are in any of the other classes, you will be allright--you can probably finagle your way around with loopholes!
The middleclass is the backbone of this society, & when they quit working/ut

utilize loopholes, there will be NO income!
No income--guess what--NO Checks--NO services--
NO jobs!

I think you should REALLY reassess your "training"
Pehaps you been listning to the wrong people?
You are too smart to take this side, but I guess this blame/feelings will ALWAYS exist!

Torchbearer - Whereas I respect you as a person and your opinions as well...I just can't agree with your reasoning.

On the topic of savages: Well, I just can't back down from my view that just because one sect of civilization is more advanced that another, the latter at the point can be considered savages. Look at the pyramids, both Egyptian and Aztec. These marvels or structure and science were not created by savages.

As for slavery: You say slaves committed attrocious crimes. But you have to ask yourself...if you were taken from your home by force...straped into chains in the bottom of a boat like sardines and sold as property...would you not want to kill or do anything you could to regain your freedom? Isn't freedom what the American Revolution was about when we fought against British rule? And sharecropping is different from slavery in the respect that sharecropping is a system of agriculture or agricultural production in which a landowner allows a sharecropper to use the land in return for a of the crop produced on the land.

Slavery is a social-economic system under which certain persons — known as slaves — are deprived of personal freedom and compelled to work.

Slaves are held against their will from the time of their capture, purchase, or birth, and are deprived of the right to leave, to refuse to work, or to receive compensation (such as wages) in return for their labor. As such, slavery is one form of unfree labor.

In its narrowest sense, the word slave refers to people who are treated as the property of another person, household, company, cor

poration or government. This is referred to as chattel slavery.

As for reparations: I agree...you may not owe anyone anything. But...when you consider some of the old families who are still wealthy from what slavery gained for them...they owe everything. And not all of those who wrong the Jews are dead. And not all of the treasures the Jews lost have been recovered. But, you see...those people who committed crimes against the Jewish people; when they are found, are punished. Belongings stripped. Reparations made in some cases.

Yet, there are companies today...families today...that still exist would not have survived without the blood or slaves. And that blood has never been repaid...or has any attempts been made. THAT is the difference.

But one thing to remember here, Torchbearer...the American Indian and the African slaves, whose decendants are now Americans, were the most brutally treated and destroyed people in American history. Nobody has suffered more than those two sects of people have. And it is very difficult to have the decendants of those people forget what happened to their people. Another saying goes loosely like this: "Let us not forget history or we are doomed to repeat it."

Yeah I know I probably said that quote all wrong but you get the idea. The past can never be forgotten. And we can't be blamed for that. But...In remember the past...we can't not live in the past.

I will be the first to stand by your side and cry "foul" when wrong is done. But again...you have to understand why some things can never be forgotten.

Thank you for your astute & honest opinions.
(If all people were like you & me, there would be no racial problems, perhaps?)

I would like to elaborate on a few points--

You could take 20 people out of society, & put them on a island.
A few would socialize to see who are like them & ally themselves with them.
A few would get started, building, procuring food, planning.
A few would sit under a tree (maybe having sex), waiting for someone else to do the work.
A few would appoint themslves as leaders, & try & get others to follow them--
WHEN--the ones that worked their as- off getting something accomplished, the lazy ones would want to utilize their efforts!
The leaders would appoint them as aides!

The indians were here, & lived in teepees, & had a certain standard of life, as did the Africans--
Had they been left alone, they would probably STILL be in teepees, riding horses!
(con't)

(The African nation HAS been left alone, & the majority are still many running around the wilds chasing animals with spears--?)
After 200 YEARS--there has been SOME progress, but that was because of missionaries & other countries leading/showing the way to a (mostly) "savage, unrefined society"!
I basically define savage as "a barbaric, un-intelligent, person who basically lives for WHAT feels good, with little concern for their action on others"

As for the reparation--the majority of the blacks here during slavery were illiterate, uncouth, savages whose only commercial value was their physical ability.
For the period from slavery to MLK, the black race was basically ignored by the whites, & only the ones that had tremendous INITITIVE, succeeded to attain a decent place in society, & THAT with a tremendous burden in some cases!

In America in the '60's we had a white educated populace that was kicking as-, & a HUGE black populace that was far behind in intellect, education, ability, & refinement!
Due to the efforts of MLK & others, the white populace was FORCED to lower academic standards, & initiate COSTLY programs to bring this other populace into the mainstream.
This was slowly accomplished, & through interbreeding, tremendous efforts by many black individuals to be succesful, & government funding, we now have a society that has a parity!
There are still FAR to many PEOPLE (of ALL races) that let their animalistic tendencies govern their behavior, breeding far too many of this quality!

As for "forgetting"??
We have to forget the past--We CANNOT d

We have to forget the past--We CANNOT do anything about the past, but we CAN do something about the future!
All we CAN do--is EACH of us TRY & be the best that we can be, with love & trust in our brother!
I also doubt that there are "MANY plantations or business's" (as a total of society) left in our country that were the result of slave labor!

Probably NOT "the most articulate written answer, but maybe you get my point."

I apologize for taking up so much of the blog--but I find the opposing views very interesting!

I am curious.
I do not disagree that the whites brought slaves over.
I do not disagree that slavery and discrimination is an abomination.
But one question..weren't the people with whom the white traders dealt black? Shouldn't you be seeking reparations from them as well?

As for reperations..I don't think the govt as a whole should have to pay anything. I think if you can trace your lineage back to a certain slave, and prove that your slave relative was owned by this particular white family, then maybe you should be able to get reparations from that family that way. But the burden of proof has to be somewhere.
Otherwise, being Irish, I could go to the Canadian government and say, "Okay, I'm Irish, ya'll enslaved countless Irishmen, so gimme some reparations."
Making people who have never owned slaves pay money to people who MIGHT be the descendants of slaves isn't practical or fair.
I know for a FACT that my family did NOT own slaves. On my mothers side, my grandfather immigrated here LEGALLY right before the depression. He met and married my grandmother while she was a torch singer in Germany and brought her family over here in 1943. (His best friend had died in Pearl Harbor, she was his BFs fiancee.)
My dads folks were about as cracker as you can get. They were white trash and Native American mix..much lower on the social scale than slaves.

Mik - I don't think that what was taken can be replaced or a dollar amount put on it. And after all...since no records were kept...who would get compensation anyway? No...I think that in this day in age...fair treatment should be the only thing that any of us should ask for or accept. And you are right...not all whites owned slaves. Indeed, many were slaves themselves to a system that was far larger than they could oppose at all.

Texasex - I must say...many families who were tormented and such by the Nazis have received something. Either blood for blood in knowing that those responsible for the crimes were put to death. Or in some cases, having art and other family artifacts restored to them.

Torchbearer - In regards to the American Indians or the Africans...perhaps the simplier way of life they still live is what they want. Is it fair for any other group of people, no matter how advanced, to take that human right away? I think it's the Quakers (I might be wrong) who still live without many of the luxuries we take for granted. They still travel in horse drawn buggies and such. Some still don't use electricity. And this is a choice. Does this make them savage when compared to many of us who are taking full advantage of the automobile, the light bulb or hot running water?

But I am curious about something. When you mention that academic standards were lowered to allow blacks a chance to succeed and be brought into the mainstream...I find that to be a bit of an exaggeration. It was documented repeatedly and proven that black schools were poorly funded an

You know, foe, I always thought it very interesting how blacks & also how whites think in private.
I have some very good black friends who are like family, but there is "a little something there"--that shouldn't be--more lately (it seems) than it used to be?.
Since you are a very articulate black man, who I would be proud to be associated with, & believe I could trust you to be a politician, I solicited your views on these topics where we both become--MAYBE a little more understanding of each others views--lol!

Where a primitive (better than savage) people may decide to live a more primitive lifestyle either out of desire or neccessity--I SURE would not like to!
Intelligent people progress, dum-dums stay in the same mode!
I would hate to just go back to my days of window fans, & radio!
(GEEZ, that would be boring!)
When I see those starving kids in Africa, I wonder if (maybe?) they would not rather be here, than there?
I wonder if ANY black person here is not better off here, than running from a tiger in a loin cloth over there?

I had a IQ of 132 in my day, & enrolled at U of H where I struggled for YEARS to get a 4 year degree!
My children all have degrees & cannot write a intelligent paper!
They are turning out degreed people who struggle to write their name!
I feel confident that I am a hellofa LOT smarter than any of these people, & these degrees will allow them to run the business's of this country, be politicians, & be the one I need to tend to my business!
One thing about me, & probably you--I MADE my own way--
I never asked for a dime I didn't

earn, wanted to be anybody but who I am, & expect everyone else to do the same!
I would think that white or black, when you go to have something done by a professional, whether it be income tax, legal work, or surgery, you want a COMPETENT person!
Another thing I have noted, that most blacks or incompetent whites, tend to want to leave out details, just "give me my money" & lets get it done--?

Thank you so much for your articulate responses, though we don't necessarily see eye to eye-- I hope to meet you some day, as that would be a honor!

I am a Freshman at UW Madison. I believe in real solutions to real problems. I didn't see the Republicans offering any of them so I a gave the Democrats a chance to do something. I believe both parties are too polarized now to get things done so I think moderates are needed. I am a moderate liberal. I spent months deciding who to support in the presidential election but I finally have decided to vote for Senator Barrack Obama. I love studying world problems, playing tennis, playing video games and now blogging.
