My son called about 20 minutes ago from a local school saying the emergency sirens had gone off and they are under lock-down. So I turned on the news, which finally started reporting a tornado had touched down in Canton. Luckily for my boys the news said it looks as if the tornado is heading east of Canton, so the boys should be safe.

Stay safe everyone in the area.

Do you know where about in Canton? My sisters family lives near Mabank (I think) in Canton. Her mother-in-law works in the nursing home.

No, I haven't heard yet exactly where. But (I think) I heard there may be possibly some injuries unfortunately :(

Yikes, my satellite service just went out so I can't hear updates yet.

Hopefully your family and everyone else is safe

My mom just said damages are pretty much First Monday grounds. They said they had people starting to come in.

CANTON, Texas  --  The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down near Canton in Van Zandt County just after 8 a.m. Friday.

There are reports of possible injuries and damage to property.

Trees and fences were knocked down on the grounds of the Canton First Monday Trade Days.

Some RV's were damaged and a woman was briefly trapped when her camper overturned, according to Linda Hatfield with Canton First Monday Trade Days.

She said she did not know of any injuries in her area and shoppers were starting to stream in.

A spokeswoman with Canton ISD said no students were injured and there was not significant damage at any of the schools.

A brief line of storms was moving through the area about 60 miles east of Dallas when the tornado touched down.
