Live Free or Die...frozen

by FOX_SMU_Mark from Dallas now - not New Hampshire

Ann Wyatt and I were at the first event of the day for Hillary Clinton in Oak Cliff. We arrived at 8:30 a.m. and the event got underway sometime around 9:15. Afterwards we were talking with supporters and getting their reactions to the speech and Clinton's debate performance. During this Clinton's press officer came over and told us a press gaggle was going to occur soon behind the main stage. This is very unusual - no event I have covered in Texas or New Hampshire had a gaggle. Both the local and traveling press set up and waited for Clinton to come over.
It was during this time that I began talking to the other press members and they said a Dallas motorcycle officer in the motorcade over had crashed, but they didn't know what had happened. Minutes later the Blackberry's of various media members began going off and word spread that the officer had died. The traveling press corps said their bus drove by the accident and they saw the officer on the ground with a "large amount" of blood on the road. They also saw the motorcycle sprawled out a good distance from the officer.
Clinton came over a short time later and gave a statement expressing condolences to the officer's family and indicating she would talk with the family as soon as it was appropriate to do so. She said the accident is a reminder of the hard work and dedication of all law enforcement officers.

I am an FOX U student reporter and a senior at SMU. I grew up in Plano, Texas, so the Dallas area has always been my home. I graduate in May 2008 with degrees in journalism and political science. I plan to go into the everchanging world of newspapers, so wish me luck! FOX sent me to New Hampshire to cover the primary and liked me enough to have me stick around for the rest of the primary season.
