I have noticed on many occasions the unconstitutional red light cameras taking pictures while there was no violation being committed. I questioned my council member on this and she assured me, "there are no pictures taken if no violation is committed."  After a friend of mine received a red light violation I noticed that not only are there still pictures, but also about a 20 second video that started well before his car was even in the frame.  Once again I questioned, how did that camera know he was going to run the red light?  I was then told that they screen out the non-violations.  My council member then told me that if I did not want my rights violated, I should stay in my house.  So what our government is telling us now is that if you don't want your constitutional rights violated, you have to stay in your house?  I thought my rights existed throughout the entire United States?  I had always assumed that if you were unwilling to risk having a car accident, you simply did not get in a car, while now it seems if you are unwilling to have your rights violated you simply stay in your house, at least according to my arlington city council member who seems to be more concerned with the money generated rather than the constitution that was paid for many years ago with the lives of many real Americans!  I have never asked my government to guarantee my safety, because they can't do that!  I have asked my government to protect my rights, which they can do but seems it is not willing to do in lieu of some extra revenue.  I guess it's my mistake, as I did not know that my rights were only guaranteed within the boundaries of my own home.  I had a history teacher tell me in high school that the communists believed they could take over the United States without ever firing a shot, I did not believe him, but now I see it's being done step by step.  It seems I served in the military in vain to defend freedom as our government officials were working overtime to take it away.

Yo, Go: Scary. I've been blogging a long time about socialism in this country. There are two candidates for president who have already done the groundwork for the "change" they are talking about. Two ways to ultimately control: Take the mark or you can't buy or sell, and the other is house arrest.

And how may I ask does a red light camera violate your rights? Even if it is a full time video camera I still don't get the rights thing. If you don't want your picture taken on a public street, don't drive thru the intersection.

They are taking more than pictures, bil. And here is another thing. As a filmmaker, I cannot legally film anyone and use the footage or photos without written consent, but it is ok for the government to do so? Hmmm, how interesting.

considering the capabilities of computers now a days this may be just one more way of tracking everybodies movements. Use your credit, or debit card, and they know where you are, what you're doing, and how you spend your money. I like the idea of RED LIGHT cameras, I believe it makes thingsa little safer. The never ending surveillance is annoying, and I don't particularly like it, but what the hell. The idea of a government official, councilmen are government officials, telling me to stay home if I don't want my rights violated pisses me off. The next council meeting I would be there asking what he meant by that statement. I would be VERY loud, and demanding. I might get in trouble for it, but what the hell.

What I really don't understand is Google sends teams of photographers out and runs video cameras up and down our streets, photographing whatever is happening at YOUR house at that given moment and posts it on the internet for all to see, free of charge....and no one says a word. A city posts cameras to catch red-light runners and all Hell breaks loose!

What's up with that???

Check it out. Click on the button and enter your street address. Much of the Metroplex is recorded and free for everyone to see.

How is this "OK" and the red light cameras not?

yea, the streetview is a good point, however how often do the come and take pictures? Hundreds of times a day like the red light cameras? Google also does not have a date and time stamp on their pictures. I guess what's scary is all the cars I could see in the video that did not violate the law! I spoke with Bill Zedler's office today and found out that this stuff is still in court, and that cities are simply using a loophole to "legally" put the general public under video surveillance without cause. A couple of things I'd like to point out, is I keep getting told "it's for your safety", ok then where is my guarantee I will not get hit by someone in one of these intersections? They can't give it, so we are spending lots of tax money on a product that cannot deliver it's stated purpose. Second, if it's for my safety, why are cities like Irving now complaining because not enough people are running the lights to produce enough money to pay for the program? Wasn't that the stated intent of the cameras? Irving was one of the first cities to install the big brother cameras which are now costing more than they are producing, and of the news stories I've seen about the cameras in Irving recently, I have not heard one word of praise from the city officials about fewer red light runners, only concern over the cost exceeding the income. I'd love to see a totally safe environment for us to all enjoy, however since we are human and make mistakes, that's not a reality, but I do want my right to privacy. I know the right to privacy is not specifically granted to me in the const

Even with all the money they make from people running red lights, they still have to pay people to screen the pictures and video. Seems kinda pointless. Let the police do their job and catch the red light runners, because we all know that traffic violation is top priority in our country.

Well, tell you what you do if your that paranoid. Pay everything in cash, don't drive on streets with cameras, don't use your cell phone(it may be monitored),and above all the riskiest thing you must get rid of,your computer. If you honestly believe the government has the ability(never mind the inclination) to keep up with all that info on every citizen in the country, your nuts.Personally,if they want to know where I shop, what I buy,or where I drive to,I could care less.

Another thing,if the government is tracking everyone the way some people claim, why is there so much crime? Shouldn't the government see bad guys outside a bank preparing for the robbery? If a guy is on the street with a gun, shouldn't they see that?Sounds to me like too many people watching a movie and believing it's real life(1984).

I live in Arlington; do all my taxable shopping outside Arlington so my money doesn’t go to Jones. My lifelong dream is to see Jones pack his bags and go back to Arkansas, and as a bonus he'd take "Mayor Mc" Cluck with him though they'd probably kick'em both out of the state. I grew up a Cowboys fan but seeing Jones' willingness to sacrifice the class the organization once had do anything to win along with his ability to steal land just because he has more money has caused me to love to watch'em loose! May they never win another superbowl! ABC-Anyone But the Cowboys!
