I can't believe Emmy Elizabeth is now 16 days old! What a treasure these last two weeks have been! And every day gets better and better. Yes, I am tired! But that feeling of exhaustion seems to disappear the moment I look at Emmy's face. And I do stare at her all the time! I never thought I could stare at another person so long. Every thing she does is amazing - or at least it amazes me!!

I am sorry for not blogging sooner - but I want to thank you for all the emails after Emmy was born (April 10th). It was so encouraging to read all your well wishes - I have saved them all for Emmy's baby book.

I had a c-section and so recovery has been a bit slow. I still can't drive yet - but that's okay - it gives me even that much more reason to stay home and cuddle with my baby! Also - HUGE thanks to the folks at Presby Dallas - Dr. John Bertrand, Dr. David Patton, Piper Cole (my L/D nurse and neighbor!), and all the nurses/staff on the 5th floor! They were incredible - and took amazing care of Emmy and I (and Jeff, who slept on an air mattress beside me!).

Emmy was born at 6:43 p.m. on the 10th - and weighed 8 - 14. She is now up to 9 pounds 5 ounces! And has grown more than an inch!! She is healthy and happy - she hardly ever cries - except when she needs to make a point. Of course, I do the same thing!!   :)

I am going to upload some new pictures soon - so be sure to check those out in the gallery. I am also working on a video montage which should be ready soon. Thanks again for all the emails and comments - it means a lot! Take care and I will be back on the air soon!

Heather - I still say "I can't believe my baby is XX old!" and mine will turn 15 next month!

Remember and capture EVERYTHING! It flies by..... I know you hear that all the time - but you don't realize how true it is until (like mine) they are about to turn driving age.....

Then, all you want is valium.

Sounds like you're having the time of your life taking care of Emmy! I'm so glad everything is going well & that you are on the mend. My best wishes to all of you! P.S. How is she on the day & night thing? I remember my oldest had them mixed up; she'd sleep all day & be up all night.

Heather, what is amazing about babies are their little fingers and finger nails. They're so tiny!!!

Heather, Aimee and I wish you Jeff, Cecily and little Emmy Elizabeth all the happiness in the world. I agree with Infectious but our kids are 19 and 23. Fast doesn't describe it.
You keep staring at that precious face for when you blink Jeff will be walking her down the aisle to give her away. We can not wait to see you on the air again but do not rush it, relish this time.

It's sooooo great to have prayers answered and Lord knows a good many of us have been praying for exactly this kind of report. Having such a "public" baby (several thousand aunts and uncles!!!) is trying, at best. I think we ALL appreciate the fact we've been allowed to play some very small part of your blessing.

And IS is quite right! Turn around twice and they're off to college!!

I look forward to the new pics....

What a cute baby! Congrats on being a mom. I knew you would love it and do a great job.

Just because I am proud of you and excited about your new family doesn't mean I will take it easy on you this footblla season. I still want to destroy you big time for the nfl pick!! Maybe Emmy Elizabeth could make a few picks for you this year since all you've done is guess anyway over the years ha.

Congratulations on Emmy! We are expecting with our first and it's twin boys. I was wondering where you purchased your nursery furniture, as we are looking for something really great for our firs time tots.

Any help is appreciated. Congratulations again!

You might be sleep deprived for about 6 months, but it does get better.
It seems like just yesterday my girls (in their 30's) were babies.
Take care of yourself. Those C sections are no fun!

Congratulations Heather. This really feeds my desire to have another baby, even though my baby is 13. I am still young enough (34), but people tell me I am crazy.

Hi Everybody!! Emmy is sleeping now (But I am sure not for long!) so I thought this would be a great time to check in! She has grown SO much in the last month (She will be 4 weeks old on Tuesday). So I am taking everyone's advice and enjoying each moment with her - I am beginning to wonder what the outside world is like, though, because Emmy and I are hibernating in the house!! :) It's fine with me because I am sure I will be back at work before I know it... and these "Mommy and Me" marathon days will be gone.

Oldi - you are right - C sections are no fun. And I am still sore. I think I started doing too much too soon - but isn't that the way it always is? Emmy loves to lay on my chest and sleep - and her feet hit right where my incision is - and that hurts a bit. But - I don't mind so much. I wouldn't trade having her on me for the world!

And Chris Yates - don't start getting cocky about this upcoming football season. I know I tanked the past couple of years - but somehow I always beat YOU!!! :)

Oscars2010- congratulations on your twins!! That's wonderful!! When are they due? As for nursery furniture - we got a conversion crib - so it will take Emmy from a crib to a toddler bed to a day bed to a full size bed. That way we don't buy several beds over the years - we got this one and other furniture and that's all she will need. We got it at You and Me Babe in Richardson. But it takes about 8 - 10 weeks. So order soon! Other great places, USA Baby on 75 in Dallas. Great people there. And Babies R Us is now my new hang out - wonderful staff at the one in Mesquite.

I anchor the 6 and 9 p.m. news – along with my dear friend and "work husband" Steve Eagar. Together we have won Edward R. Murrow, AP, and Katie Awards (Thanks for carrying me, Steve!). And I won an Emmy for Best Anchor. But now I have a new role - Mommy! Jeff and I have two little girls - Emmy (Jeff said I have an Emmy - so he wants one, too!) and Lily Rae. The girls are 14 months apart so we definitely have our hands full! But it's wonderful!! I also want to tell you about my volunteer work - speaking to groups about suicide awareness. I lost my former fiance’ to suicide and recently published a book called "Surviving Suicide." You can find out more about that at www.heatherhays.com. Playtime is spent with the cutest chocolate lab ever, Rosco, and my amazing husband, Jeff - and of course, Emmy and Lily Rae. Thanks for checking in and have a great day!
