Why is this under the Weather Blog... Read on!! But first "gettin' dirty" is all for a GREAT cause - Kids!! FOX4 has put together a Muddy Media Team - and we are gonna get down and dirty at this year's Mud Run in Fort Worth (www.mudrundfw.com). I didn't know much about the Mud Run until a few weeks ago (thanks Robert for getting me on the team!) - but I do know that come Saturday, November 10th - I will be dressed in camo, military boots, and my Muddy Media tshirt - ready to race in the 10k muddy military-style obstacle course!! Steve Eagar keeps asking if I am training yet (he ran 3 miles in his boots a few days ago) - guess I keep thinking I will get to the gym - it just hasn't happened yet!!
Not only will there be 2500 folks taking part in the Mud Run, there will also be thousands of spectators - cheering us on or laughing at us- as we struggle our way through the mud! But really it's all about giving back. Money raised from this event will go to Toys for Tots, the North Texas Young Marines Program, and the North Texas JROTC.
Come on out and join us if you can - otherwise, wish for warm weather and NO RAIN!! I'll let you know how we do!! :) See - now you know why this is under the Weather Blogs!
You might not know his name, but Hardy Jackson - for many people - became the face of Hurricane Katrina. He is the Biloxi man who was wandering the debris filled streets with his children, when a reporter asked him how he was doing. His answer, "Not good." He seemed almost like he was in shock from what he had been through. He tearfully described how moments after he, his wife, and his children climbed into their attic - a rush of water split their home in two - tearing Hardy's wife, Tonnette, from his grip and pulling her into the flood waters - never to be seen again. When the reporter asked where he was going to go, Hardy answered, "I'm lost. That was all I had." Before Tonnette was ripped away from Hardy, she said, "You can't hold me. Take care of the kids." He promised that he would.
I spoke with Hardy Jackson a couple of weeks ago. He and his children and grandchildren are living in a home in Palmetto, GA - a gift from R&B singer Frankie Beverly. Hardy is a stay-at-home Dad - and spends as much time as he can with his family - fulfilling that promise to his wife. He says things are still tough but he has faith they will get better. His wife's body has never been found - and he says he misses her every single day. He started crying on the phone with me - it broke my heart.
You can hear from Hardy himself, in this week's "Whatever Happened To" (Thursdays on FOX4 News at Nine - and archives can be found here on our website). You can also send Hardy a note. He is very interested in hearing from people. He doesn't get out of his house much - he has some medical issues and is busy with the kids. So if you'd like to get in touch - here's his info - Hardy Jackson PO Box 594 Palmetto GA 30268.

You tell me... because I'm not sure. I was driving home last night about eleven (talking on the phone of course!), but I glanced toward the sky long enough to see what I thought was heat lightening. I didn't think much of it - until I got home a couple of minutes later and Jeff asked me if I had seen an explosion. Since I wasn't sure what I had seen, Jeff and Cecily decided to be adventurous - jump in the car and search for the "mystery light." They didn't find anything... but today..
This email from Kathy came in to the Viewers Voice email... "Hello, I was wondering if anyone reported a very large fireball meteor that passed over D/FW last night at approximately 11:10 pm... I called my husband who is Houston for the week working and he was outside at work and he and his boss saw the same thing in the sky as they were sitting on the curb taking a break.... Just curious, in my 38 years I have never seen anything like it and have lived in the Fort Worth area all my life."
Well, Kathy, I think what we saw was part of a meteor shower -called the Delta Aquarid Showers. If that's what it was - the showers will last about two more weeks - then that's it - until next year.
And in case you want to check out the biggest of the upcoming meteors - the Perseid meteor shower is expected in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 12th. So keep your eyes on the sky - and make a wish!!
