I'm slowly but surely losing faith that law and order exists anymore.  In the state of Minnesota, the senate race came down to just a few hundred votes.  The incumbant republican Norm Coleman barely edged out a victory...before the recount.  After a long recount process filled with dubious votes and highly political decisions, democrat Al Franken is now ahead by a couple hundred votes.  But here's the kicker...due to some rediculous actions by the authorities in charge of the recount many ballots are being counted twice.  How did people find out?  Well, reports came out today that in some districts there are more votes than voters.  Whoops.

So, whether you are a democrat, republican or neither, you'd have to agree that something illegal or at the very least incorrect is going on here.  So do you feel secure that elections are fair and lawful or like me do you now agree with the old saying (often attributed to Stalin) that says "it's not who votes that counts, it's who counts the votes"?

From what I've seen on the 'net, experts say no, drastic changes in temperature won't make you sick.  What do you think?  I understand that colds are caused by a virus, but maybe somehow weather changes make your body more susceptible to catching that virus.  I predict that there will be more sick people by the end of this week.

Remember VP-elect Joe Biden saying that Pres.-elect Obama would be tested early?  In light of the terrorist attacks in Mumbai (allegedly carried out by Islamic fundamentalists on Jews and westerners), is an attack on US soil far off?  If so, what should we do to prevent it?  It feels like we're just sort of taking a wait-and-see approach.  Thoughts?

Does this surprise you?  'cause it didn't surprise me and I'm puzzled as to why everyone seems so shocked.  Help me, please.

Check out this quote from 18th century Scotsman Alexander Tytler

'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a
permanent form of government.'

'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover
they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.'

'From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who
promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every
democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always
followed by a dictatorship.'

So are we doomed to become the Soviet American States or something like that?

On paper it's hard to understand how McCain lost this.  He's an American war hero, a respected lawmaker and a political moderate.  In my humble opinion, he lost because he ran a lousy campaign.  For some reason he was never able to focus in on an effective point and articulate it.  The presidential race became focused on the economy, unemployment, corporate greed and the unpopularity of George Bush and McCain couldn't effectively counter that.  Issues of experience, security and loyalty (McCain's strongest attributes) were completely lost in the news cycle.

Finally, although I like her personally, I think the choice of Sarah Palin turned out to be a mistake.  After an initial boost in the first few days, she looked unprepared and unpresidential in interviews and debates.

So, what do you think about his campaign?  What could he have done differently?  What does the GOP have to change to compete in 2012?

OK, if all these wealthy people like actors, athletes and billionaires (Buffet, Soros, etc) who support Barack Obama want to pay higher taxes, then why don't they just write a donation check to the IRS?  No one is twisting their arms forcing them to take deductions on their 1040 form.  Just write out a big check and voluntarily send it to the US treasury.  I haven't seen or heard about anyone doing that.  Can you help me understand?

I stumbled across this and thought everyone should see it.  If you have a moment, please take a look at the active duty responses to these poll questions.  It may surprise you.

It seems that the mainstream media won't show you results like this because I don't think "they" want you to know.  Here's the link

Well, here's the official wind field map from the National Weather Service.  This may shock you, but what we had were at most category 1 winds.  I know that considering all the damage, many people (including some of my neighbors) believe the winds must have been 110mph+.  So, check out the map and let me know what you think

This morning I know everyone here was excited to have model Tyra Banks in the studio.  She was in Houston to meet with a young girl who gave Tyra her idea to have an "opposite day" themed episode.  Well, this really got me wondering if it was appropriate for children to watch the Tyra Show.  I wanted to list for you some of the recent Tyra episode titles and let you decide if this is "must see TV" for your 5th grader.

My Buddy Patrick Blood, forecaster with the National Weather Service, was assigned to help with the damage survey after Hurricane Ike.  He told me about the crazy sights they came across on the Bolivar Peninsula including dead alligators, leveled homes and partially buried vehicles, but this one takes the cake:  Hurricane Ike washed up a Pygmy Sperm Whale which he was lucky enough to find rotting on the shoreline.  NASTY!

Even though the olympics are on a rival network, I have been watching all the events religously.  I have noticed something that sort of rubs me the wrong way.  Many, if not most of the athletes competing for other countries live and train in the United States.  I recall a swimmer who trains at Southen Cal competing for Tunisia and a runner from LSU competing for Trinidad just for a couple of examples.  So, if someone lives here, works here, trains here, shouldn't they win a medal for us?  What do you think?

So, two blogs ago I showed you a story about police who tasered a seriously injured boy apparently for no reason.  Now for part two of this series I present this case.

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/bal-mayor08
07,0,4563211.story

Police in Maryland invaded this family's house, killed their dogs and tied up an old lady.  No explanation has been given for their conduct and no apology has been offered.  The victim was a city's mayor.

What scares me is that this seems like a trend.  There appear to be rogue police departments that feel that they can violate anyone's civil rights and get away with it.  So what do you think of this one?  There may be a logical explanation here, and if so I'm waiting to hear it.

By the way, I am not anti-police in any way, shape or form...I am pro-rule of law and I don't think anyone is above it.  I'm sure most police officers would agree with me.

Hello, this is Mike Iscovitz, meteorologist for Fox 26 News. When I'm not at work, I'm spending time with my wife and beautiful twin girls. They are an incredible blessing. In addition to the twins we have to keep up with our somewhat obese but lovable Siamese mix Casper, and our scrappy, spunky Yorkie named Sammy. When I have free time (which I don't) I try to emulate two of my idols, Jimmy Page and Arnold Schwarzenegger by working out and trying to play my Gibson. Contact me at iscovitz@fox26.com
