He is a great man for his sacrifice to this country, but it is a shame he didn't support the new bipartisan GI Bill. He did want to sponsor his own bill, but his was not as beneficial to the real heroes of America.

Senator McCain, please support our troops.

He would make a horrible president. Probably as bad as the smirking chimp.

No, you mean like the sex manic that can't keep his dick in his pants, and lies bold face in court. And also blows up an abandon aspirin factor to show he's tuff on terror. And then their is the peanut farmer that goes over to negotiate with terrorist groups and regimes. Those are the horrible presidents.

Thank all of you for your comments.

cbfan: I believe that Senator McCain is trying to walk a narrow line between maintaining an all-volunteer military and maintaining a military force by conscription. The Webb Bill will provide full tuition and housing at a 4-year public college for those who serve at least 3 years in the military. The Pentagon opposes the Webb Bill because providing such a large benefit after only 3 years of service would hurt the ability of the military to retain trained and experienced military personnel. The McCain Bill, which was defeated, would have increased benefits for most veterans from 1100 dollars per month to 1500 dollars per month. For veterans with at least 12 years of service, the benefit would increase to 2000 dollars per month. I do not believe that Senator McCain is failing to honor those who serve in the military. I believe that Senator McCain is demonstrating his ability to make a difficult decision instead of just going with the flow. No one wants to return to a military draft in order to maintain a standing military.

flipnotic: Again, you make statements that lack substance. If you want your opinions to be taken seriously, provide a rationale for your opinions.

rsagetx1: Did you know that between 1996 and 1998, Sudanese President Bashir offered the arrest and extradition of bin Laden and detailed intelligence data about global networks constructed by Egypt's Islamic Jihad, Iran's Hezbollah, and the Palestinian Hamas to then-President Bill Clinton, but President Clinton failed to act (Chuck Noe, Newsmax.com, 12-06-01)?

Ivyman, I believe three years of hell deserves to be rewarded with a degree. I believe many people that can't afford college would jump all over this. Therefore, recruitment would increase dramatically.

cbfan:

You make a good point. I spent 3 years in the Army, including 1 year in Vietnam, in order to help pay for my education. When I was discharged, I worked at a full-time job in order to support my wife and child as well as supplement my Federal benefits. I also discovered that Texas has Veteran Benefits (Hazelwood Act) to help veterans earn a college education.

I am a native Texan. Whether I express a liberal, moderate, or conservative viewpoint depends on the topic being discussed. I enjoy talking with people who are able to discuss differing opinions without being hateful or mean spirited. I like to have my beliefs challenged. I like to challenge the beliefs of others.
