THESE are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated. (Thomas Paine)

Welcome
for the amount of people that have fought and died for our freedom , it is difficult for Me to consider voting for someone, that doesn't even understand what a deep meaning and sense of pride something as simple as our National Anthem brings to the people in this country , it is a tribute to how hard and costly in blood and treasure, the fight has been to keep our country free

Nicely said. That is why it is not just another song or a piece of cloth.

Well, Dak, when we salute our flag or sing the national anthem, even support the truth, we are mistakingly construed as some ardent nationalists. I say, What's wrong with that?

I doubt there is anything wrong with it, to someone that believes in the constitution and what this country was built on, and I'm of the opinion, that Obama has little sense of what it took in sacrifice to get this country to where it is ,today, His one comment, that he thought the national anthem was to war like, misses the whoe meaning of it, it was atribute to this country, when it was under attack, , and still the flag still stood !! it has been an inspiration to the peole of this nation ever since !!

From factcheck.org:

Q:

Did Obama say the National Anthem conveys a "war-like message" and should be swapped for something such as "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing"?

Is this e-mail valid?
Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin, presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

According to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171, During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.

"As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides," Obama said. "There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem it self conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it."

A:

No. That's false. The quote was one conservative writer's idea of a joke, which has been picked up and repeated as though it were true in a chain e-mail.

We have become a nation of navel gazers. The individual is more important than the nation and the will of one is more important than the will of the people. Until we get past the idea that only our welfare matters rather than the welfare of all, we will continue to be trying to appease the petty needs of many over the serious needs of all.

I believe that's true, had these people been here in 1775, we would still be under British rule
