I want to make it clear. I am not blasting all bikers. I just think the stupid stunts SOME bikers pull on the highways are more appropriate for the show "Jack[behind]" Hey, I used to have a bike and loved riding it in the mountains of Colorado. But would I ride one here? NO WAY! For the same reasons that many of you so correctly cited. People driving in cars are the greatest threat to everyone on the roadway. There are so many people eating, drinking, writing, texting and talking on cell phones while driving... it makes me wanna drive around in a tank or some kind of armored car, let alone a motorcycle. And yes, I too am sometimes guilty of indulging in some of those distractions-- But not all at the same time. If you saw the report we aired Wednesday you know the kind of "bad" bikers I'm talking about... The kind that block all of the lanes of the highway by slowing down so that no one can pass while they ride wheelies... and do other death defying stunts.

Someone sent me a link to a website called Dallas Riders where a guy named "Tom Ass" talked about the incident on Sunday, claiming to have been involved.

And in case you missed my report showing video of the bikers just before the clash.

So, don't get me wrong I like biking I just don't want to be the bug on the windshield.

Thanks for not bashing all bikers because like you, I am a biker as well. I ride with a lot of bikers and we do cruz the toll way and local highways. I must admit, there are several(mostly all of them) do engage in this type of stunting. I along with several other riders have asked those idiots why are do they ride like they do. Their response, "its the thrill of the ride". You may ask why we ride with them, so to save that question, we actually just show up at a location and someone just say lets ride and we all ride. We(reasonable riders)take off and ride and the next thing you know, those other idiots began to put the bike on 1 wheel. At this point, a few of us just leave because of the danger they can cause for us and others. That crew on the toll way was a small select compared to what happens on any given Sunday evening. Nuts will be nuts I guess.

I just seen the idiot bragging on that site as well. Thanks because I forgot about going to it. When I first seen the inciddent I must admit, DSR came to mind as being involved. But hearing this idiot talk, I doubt it. It sounds like someone is trying to implicate DSR but again, I doubt that this idiot was involved in that incident. I will keep my ears open for any talk and take the appropriate action.

Last evening I saw one of the dareidiots on the hiway. He was doing the wheelie thing and got off on the access road where he continued to do it. He was going so fast he had problems stopping at the red light. The sad part is when they hurt innocent people for their thrill.

The responsible riders out there are the ones that go, for the most part, unnoticed. I have nearly 20 years riding experience and I'd never dream of 'stunting' on any public roads. I respect the roads and the the laws that govern them. I just think its said that so many people lump motorcyclists into only sport bike riders and cruiser riders. There are many riders of each kind that in my opinion have no business being in control of a bike what so ever. The bad apples are definitely tarnishing the publics view of the innocent. It's nothing more than another form of discrimination.

I WITNESSED A GUY TRYING TO DO A STUNT ON WB 635 AT ABOUT JUPITER AND LOST CONTROL. HIS BIKE SLID FROM THE FAR LEFT LANE TO THE OUTSIDE EMERGENCY LANE AND HIT THE BRIDGE WALL. HE THEN FLEW OVER THE BRIDGE AND FELL TO THE BOTTOM. I RAN DOWN TO HELP HIM AND LUCKILY HE DIDN'T DIE SINCE HE WASN'T WEARING A HELMET. HE HAD A FEW VISIBLE BROKEN BONES BUT WAS CONCIOUS. THIS GUY TOLD ME," COOL, DID YOU SEE ME WIPE OUT? I GOTTA GET BACK ON MY BIKE MAN, I JUST BOUGHT IT." THIS DUDE WAS IN NO CONDITION TO RIDE WITH BROKEN ARMS AND LEGS. I HOPE HE LEARNED SOMETHING FROM THIS.

I saw the story you did James and had even commented on a blog of yours earlier in the day, had no idea your blog might be aimmed at that story...but regardless, I was SHOCKED when I saw the video of them blocking traffic and then what that man had to go through with them...that is outrageous and STUPID...then to read the blog you had in this one totally put me over the edge with these guys (except one guy on that blog seemed to be a litel more level headed than the others).

Unbelievable...

What if that man had his wife & kids in the car- and these jokers shot the car up with bullets.

They better be glad he ran, rather than smashing four or five of them up against a guard rail.

I've always wanted a bike, but this kind of stuff changes my mind.I was headed towards I-20 on Highway 80, near Terrell last summer- and probably 14 bikes went by me, at what HAD to be 140 MPH.

Scared the crap out of me, because one second- the closest tcar to me, was about 50 yards back, and the left lane was clear. In teh next second, a swarm of bikes (LOUD BIKES) rushed past me. Then, a minute or two later, 2-3 stragglers did the same thing. When we got near Terrell, they had bucnhed up on the side of the road. I guess they were gonna take 20 back into Dallas.

Saw a gang of black girls riding up 35, heading towards downtown, north of the Highway 67 exit. They were hardly wearing anything- (which offended me deeply) ***just kidding** .

They weren't exactly riding safely either- being nighttime and all. They were all on sport bikes too, except one of them. It was probably 12-15 of them that night.

I saw many accidents in my years of work for the state. I have seen many involving bikers. Almost all are gruesome. Guys laying in a pool of blood, guts spilled out onto the road, brains laying beside a skull. The speed freaks who perform their antics do not care about the outcome. They are only interested in the thrill of speed and being a dare-devil.
I know of some who have survived, but they are basically vegetables.
Why doesn't law enforcement try to impose bans on these bikes in certain areas ? It can be done. Some cities have a ban on trucks on major freeways. I think with a little push, the same could be done with crotch rockets. There would be a problem with the street bikes being able to ride on certain roads. It would be somewhat complex and difficult to get it passed, then just as difficult to enforce.
Speaking of fast. Accidents and deaths keep getting higher. Why do our lawmakers allow the auto manufacturers to keep producing muscle cars that have 600 horsepower ? Talk about a death trap. I can see kids being killed in those cars.

The good thing about the mega horsepower sedans and muscle cars, is that they are so expensive, the average whipper-snapper can't afford them.

That Mercedes S63 has 612 HP- but, it's also $145,000.00. So, few teens will be piloting that, or the 500+ HP Corvette Z06, Viper, or Shelby Mustangs.

Any parent who buys their kid a car like this, must want to see them die.

Kids are too reckless- even the responsible ones, to have anythng more powerful that a Kia Rondo, until they have shown- through years of safe driving- that they can handle 200, 300, 400, 500 HP.

Heck, I've driven 23 accident free years, and the other day, the back end of my F-150 made it into the intersection almost as fast as the front end. It had just started raining, and I applied the gas, and she kicked out on me. Fortunately, I know how to deal with a skid- I made the correction- and went on my way. Didn't even bump a curb. That was only 239 HP.

Imagine an inexperienced kid in the same situation, with 300 HP. They'd have been through the guardrail, and down on 75.

I am with Herschel...
I do not care if you want to put your own life in danger...just don't involve me or my family or you could end up a stain on the asphalt.
ALL drivers need to remember we share the roads...Endanger children and you've crossed the line

That is right, Herschel. It is a good thing those cars are expensive. There is a place in Dallas, somewhere close to 35 and Valleyview, that makes muscle cars. They range up to 725 horsepower. They are about 160,000 dollars, if I remember right. Remembering, for me, is sometimes a challenge ! I agree about kids not having fast cars. I am thinking a small, four cylinder car is good.

Yep... I understand the desire to keep the child safe (if one can afford it) so, the tendency woudl be (if one can afford it) to get them a 325 BMW, an a4, or something like that.

Yeah, it may be small- but, those are serious cars- and an inexperienced driver can find his or herself overwhelmed, if they have a nack for doing something stupid on occasion (peer pressure).

A Chevy Cobalt or Civic (Not the SI) would be more than enough car, for the average young driver.

But, as sure as I'm typing this- there's a child, somewhere in the Metroplex, getting a C6 Corvette, or a Mustang GT for their Sr. Year... Hopefully, they'll live to graduate.
