It won't be long before solo drivers can dive into the HOV lanes for a fee. They're called Managed lanes. North Texans will first see managed lanes along I-30 West of Dallas. DART says this is a prototype project and if goes well every HOV lane in Dallas will be a managed lane.
TxDOT says when 635 (West of the High 5 to I-35) is revamped by the year 2014 it will have managed lanes as well. Tolls on that road will be no more than .75 a mile, which means the four mile stretch would not cost more than 6-dollars. However, they say, the toll rate will vary, the heavier the traffic, the higher the toll, the lighter, the lower.
The good news is if you have a wing man you can still ride in the HOV lane for free.
Good Idea??

Even when you don't find me in the FOX4 Newsroom, I'm always "On Assignment". That's the name of my sailboat I keep locally here in North Texas. Aside from being a general assignment reporter and Captain of the widely popular "Street Squad", I am an avid sailor. Have a troubled traffic spot that drives you crazy during your commute? Maybe you notice other motorists always breaking the law? Send me an e-mail, reply to one of my blogs or call me on the Street Squad Hotline... and you may find you're the next FOX4 viewer to be deputized!
