Talk around the water cooler...

Should welfare recipients be required to take a drug test before receiving their FREE money?

Many jobs require their employees take a drug test in order to earn their paycheck. Should Welfare recipients have to take one too, after all, the people who EARNED the money for them had to.

Not only should there be a drug test, it should be a limit on how long you can collect too.

It is amazing that people make a living being on welfare. It might not be that much but after 1 year you should be on your feet.

Rodney,

I agree.

I don't mind helping people, but I have seen people live off it for YEARS. - I've even seen people sell their food stamps for cigs, alcohol, drugs etc. - Of course, the STATE tried to cut down on that by implementing the food card, but people found their way around that too.

It's the life of entitlements and set to expand beyond belief in the next presidential election. Everyone will find out who George Soros is and what his "open society" is all about. It's all coming soon to a country near you.

Drug test and they have to show employment! NO more hand out to those who chose not to work.

Well I like the idea but here's a problem with it.

1. The government will screw it up.

2. The recipient will know in advance when the test is and clear their body of the offending chemicals.

3. Alcohol is a drug yet its legal. Do we punish just the dopers?

Just some thoughts. I hate the entitlement system in this country and the Dems want to add to it.

...and that reminds me....get on-topic. I strongly support any form of testing that is usual and customary for the common worker to receive a paycheck. However, I have no idea what to do about the dependent children of offenders. THEY will suffer even more if the parent's benefits are instantly stopped.

Perhaps issueing coupons that are ONLY good for milk, bread, etc....products considered to be "staples of life" for the health and nutrition of the children involved. To do anything less would be complicit in starving those children.

KK,
They need to revamp the whole thing. The AFDC checks are not always used for the children. It's straight up cash and I've seen Moms abuse this.

As far as the foodstamp card, the parent is already contributing to "starving" their children when they sell their foodstamp benefits to suit their needs. (cigs, booze etc.)

I agree, Chopper...but, at some point, some of those benefits (money) are being used to buy food for the dependent children. I guess I'm suggesting the "revamp" that you're talking about to prevent the STATE from becoming complicit in starving those children.

If the recipient fails a test and receives nothing for that week, they have nothing to trade or sell for their booze and cigs....and they also have nothing to feed their kids. That's why I was rambling on about the possibility of specified coupons.

I favor drug testing

When issueing food stamps or food card keep in mind that there are things needed for hygenic purposes. such as Tp soap laundry detergent etc

The ACLU and several other groups would blow a gasket, so I'm in favor of it.

I hear ya KK.

WIC is a specified coupon and believe it or not, there are many people who are on AFDC, WIC, foodstamps AND section 8. Most people don't know how very common it is. These people get A LOT of money and goods w/ little to NO effort at all.

I met a woman who sold her benefits for cigs, booze etc, than went to the churches for their free food to feed her kids. - Sad.

The problem with food stamps is that too many recipients trade them for things they cannot legally get using them, like cigarettes and beer. I doubt you could get it past the ACLU to test them, but it sure would be an eye opener.

I'm for it, but the problem is they will find away around it.
If the person has no disabilities keeping them from work they should do everything possible to get a job.
They are teaching thier kids you don't have to be responsible for your life.
If the person is found to be taking drugs I would consider them a health threat to the child or children.

Drug test monthly in order to recieve FREE money if they fail the children go into the system immediatly and we will feed THEM not the drug habit! And if your recieving welfare alchohol should be tested for along with the drugs legal or not if you cant buy food you dont need that BEER!

I had tenants in a rental property that I found out got busted 45+ times for drugs/distribution-I had a lot of doors to fix when I finally got rid of the welfare, deadbeat, rejects. They were on welfare and housing assist program. The doors I had to fix were from the cops kicking in the doors during the bust. So, should they be tested-in a heart beat.

I agree too.Test them ,heck theres alot of people that have to got thru random drug testing with their employment why not for this.
They need to def. revamp this little system they have going but then again they also need to revamp the judicial system....ah heck while their at it,revamp the whole dang country ,with the way things are going lately.

I am with boycan.... Drugs OR alcohol is a positive test. AND - yes, they should be tested. But, I have always said that women who are pregnant should be tested upon admission to the hospital for ANYTHING... Even if they are admitted for a broken bone. It is not about the pregnant woman and whether or not she WANTS to be tested - it is about the safety of the unborn child.

If they do drug test for welfare recipients - it should be a random testing - and it should be randomly when you come in monthly to renew your benefits. If you have a positive - no renewal and CPS will be at your front door if you are really unable to provide for your children without the assistance.

It should not be random, it should be monthy to recieve the check! If they don't want to test WE take the children they don't get the check and we are feeding the children not the HABIT! If they don't have children they don't get a check we don't get a child! And we still don't feed the habit!
