Linda's Blog

Hello to all,

I would like to know what laws govern email spammers vs. people who send out snail mail junk mail.  What laws make it ok to send junk mail to your mailing address but it is against the law to send email spam? I only raise this question because I read on the Yahoo home page about Robert Alan Soloway who is accused of spamming millions of users.  I hate both types of junk mail.

Thank you, Linda

contact the postal service....they can hook you up with a way to get on a list to not receive junk mail...(or they used to)...i used to carry mail and i would get cussed out by some people for leaving "BBM"(bulk business mail) or "advos" (junk mail) in their box....the ones that really bug me are the ones that they leave all over your door with tape and rubber bands....dang door to door solicitors

The major difference, of course, is that bulk postal mailings are paid for. The postal service receives money for delivering them.

In the Spammers case, HE'S the only one who receives money.

And if I get ONE MORE PHONE BOOK......

I totally agree with the phone book issue!! I have had about 10 delivered to my door this year alone so far! I keep a few and pitch the rest in the recycle bin. In addition thank you for posting comments, I will check into a do not deliver junk mail list with the USPS.

Good idea, Linda. Ted is our resident "postal inspector" and sometimes he goes "postal" on us....but he's the man to ask about such matters. :)))

Keller and Linda...I'm with you about the phone books. WHAT IS THE DEAL????? I get about 3 or 4 sets of books a year. How many trees are they waisting??? My apartment complex has told them to dump the phone books at the mailboxes and if the tenants want them, take one instead of delivering them to everyone's door as people were clogging up the trash chute with them. I hardly use the one set I have.

I can understand having an up to date phone directory.....and they tell me that most all of the directories we get thrown on our lawn are made from recycled paper....but twice a year should be enough to make them up to date. Not twice a month. :)))

You'd think some retail giant would "want in" on making them available at their place of business...for free, of course. Then, if I want a new one, I go to (insert retail store here) and pick one up.

Absolutely. It's not rocket science here...it's a little bit of thinking outside the box. I most certainly know that it would save a lot of back-breaking work, as well as money, to have a fairly central location for us to stop in and pick up the latest phone book. Most of the major grocery stores would undoubtedly be interested, along with the big box retail places. That might unclog the recycling chute!!

I am thankful for my family and friends. I enjoy hockey, boxing, crafts, attempting golf, and NTN. The holidays are probably my favorite time of the year.
