Rangers catcher Gerald Laird has paid his dues and deserves to be rewarded for his hard work over the past few years.  Laird was told this week that he would now share the catching duties with Taylor Teagarden the rest of the season. That didn't set well with Laird. Back in the Buck Showalter days Laird was splitting time with Rod Barajas (who was supposedly one of Buck's guys).  Laird was the starter until an injury created the duel time situation.  Despite another injury this season, Laird has been the starter and has produced. He's hitting .284, has speed, will bunt his way on and has an above average arm.  But still he was told again this season he had to split time with Jarrod Saltalamacchia who's now out for the season with an injury.  Then the Teagarden thing made Laird say he doesn't want to be doing this thing for the next couple of years. He wants to play or be traded and you really can't blame him.  Surely, the Rangers can get a good pitcher for him because they have a bus load of young talented catchers behind him.  And in case you haven't noticed, the Rangers still need some good pitchers.

Gerald Laird's attitude is disturbing to say the least.

His injuries are one of the prime reasons he is sharing duties with someone else.

The Rangers know what they have Laird and now they are trying to determine what they may have in Salty or Teagarden -- in the rest of a season whose games are totally meaningless.

Laird is being paid 1.6 million dollars this year to play a game he loves.

That kind of money earns him the right to do what his manager says do and keep his mouth shut.

And with the way Laird is handling this so far I am quite sure he will be the catcher the Rangers are most eager to get rid of.

I'm inclined to agree with LeeGrimsley. Laird is being paid big money and they are going to get their milage out of him so he really need not worry about that. Salty and Teargarden are young players and need development and Laird does have a history of injury. Though I can kind of understand that he wants to show that he has the ability to play big time ball.

Exactly, Lee. Trade Laird and his whining for a pitcher.

Oh, darn, there we go on the pitching thing AGAIN.

Have faith Scotty. There are rumors circulating all over baseball that there are BIG changes coming to the Rangers this winter. Nolan Ryan knows pitching and he is going to stock the Rangers maagement with others who do too

He sure needs to.

And while they're at it, put some A/C in that place (like NBC did at Bejing) and pay for it by jacking the price on every ticket $3.

I'd rather pay for it by sacrificing Kevin Millwood

That would work as well. That rascal isn't worth his weight in feathers.

I completely agree that Laird is being whiney. As for "paying his dues" - this is a business, not a glee club. If Teagarden (who caught in the Olympics and the national champion Texas Longhorns if I'm not mistaken) is the future, why be stuck in the past? Laird is good but if Taylor reaches his potential there will be no comparison. Salti I could have done with or without.

Salty is personable. I chatted with him in the bullpen and he tossed me a ball for wifey.

When it comes down to it we need what's best for the team, not the individual.

Washington is probably doing what the GM tells him to do at this position.
