Have you ever cheered for the wrong team? If not, I highly recommend it.

Last weekend I took my family to a Dallas Stars game. Only, we were in Anaheim. I went back to Southern California for the weekend.. and couldn't think of a better way to spend a Friday night.

For those of you who don't follow hockey.. this was a big game. It was a packed arena and the hostile energy was flowing both on and off the ice. Our tickets were in the Stars section -- which meant about a dozen of us in the middle of enemy territory.

I've never been heckled at a sporting event.. until now. And as twisted as it sounds -- I kind of enjoyed it. I just couldn't stop laughing!

While the Stars and Ducks were battling it out below us... we had our own game going on up in the stands. It was us.. versus them. And we, the underdogs ... were winning big time.

The more they booed ... the louder we cheered. The louder we cheered.. the more annoyed they got. The worst was when two VERY frustrated teenagers in front of us were so upset at Anaheim's performance... that they kept threatening to throw things at us if we didn't stop cheering. By this time, I was in hysterics!

By the way, we never stopped.

And we never will.

Megan, it's funny you mentioned that. I fly to the OC on "business" several times a month (usually just sitting around or driving up the beach). Next time I am there and the Stars are in town I will make it a point to go. Thanks. Hope Mamma and Pappa Henderson enjoyed the game!

In years past, I've been to Rams or Raider games when they were in So. Calif. Many times it's just to healthy to be in the face of others. Many times, fights outside the bathrooms were bloody, and all started with cheering on one's team. Sad really. Keeping the booze out of the situation can keep it a bit friendlier.

Megan , of course your stature as a very beautiful woman would influence the behavior of "enemy" fans .

In 1980 , I was semi-living in L.A. and the Cowboys played the Rams on Monday Night Football , in of all places , Anaheim .

The Rams kicked the Cowboys butt and me with my Roger Staubach jersey on , did not have the same hysterical reaction , it was actually a very threatening reaction

the Cowboys had the last word tho , as they met the Rams just a few weeks later in the playoff and returned the butt kicking :)

Good for you meagan. Don't let those fans in OC Intimidate you, which you didn't. I give you props for that. I used to work for a company that is headquarter in Anaheim Hills and I wished I had got into hockey back then. I would have done the same things you did.

At Chips Sportsbar in Lubbock, it was always friendly 'yelling' for one's own team. Jeers, or whatever. Very, Very seldom were there violent situations. Good fun. Huge Green Bay fan base goes in there. Lots of fun.

Hello Miss Beautiful! I am a guilty party of one myself for rooting for the opposite team. It is fun to "cheat" if you will, on YOUR team, right. For instance, when the Pats and Green Bay were playing, I really like both teams but the Pats are my favorite, I felt like I was crossing the "CHEATERS" line with rooting for GB instead. I liked that, but I quickly went back to Pats when GB lost. I am forever a Cowboy fan though. Oh, and Megan, one more thing love, Don't let those haters who don't like you get to you or under your skin. I am one of your BIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGEST fans and I really hope to meet you one day. My store manager already has (MEN'S WEARHOUSE on PRESTON and 635WB... the next cross street from that is DILBECK.)We are across from the VALLEY VIEW MALL. I'm sure everyone knows where that is at. I hope all of ya'll come visit us... BEFORE WE MOVE AT THE END OF APRIL/BEGINNING OF MAY! Montfort and the Toll Way by Belt Line Rd. Come and see us and myself!!! XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO!!! I heart you chick!

Very good, Megan! I did that this past College Football season, when I went to the USC-Washington Game in SEA, wearing my LSU sweatshirt and cap to the game.

Oh, the looks and comments I got from the USC fans were unbelieveable! LSU and USC fans despise each other since sharing the National Championship in 2003-2004. This year, USC were ranked #1 and LSU were ranked #2 at the time. But I behaved myself and didn't respond to the obnoxious Trojan Athletic Supporters.

The Washington fans were also a bit confused - I guess they didn't believe that an LSU fan would infiltrate Pac-10 country. LOL

USC lost the AP Ranking as a result of that game, then lost to Stanford in Los Angeles the next week. And as we all know, LSU went on to win the National Championship.

I think you enjoyed being in enemy territory for the same reason I did - it's one heck of an adrenalin rush. You're somewhere you are not "supposed" to be, and you catch lots of people off-guard.

In my experience, I did encounter many people who asked me about the earlier LSU game against Tulane, and the team in general, which was cool. I failed to mention that one of my friends wore his Texas gear, which also went down well with the USC faithful. LOL

For my next adventure, I'm going to the LSU-Florida Game in Gainesville this year. Now that's REALLY going into enemy territory! My date for that game is a Florida grad, but all bets are off that weekend with her. LOL

The weekend before that, I'm off to Boulder to see Texas take on Colorado. I anticipate the same reaction from the Big 12 folk.

Oh, and now, I have purple LSU National Championship gear, so that's going to go over really well, no matter where I wear it.

Thank you all so much for your kind comments.. and sharing your stories. I love hearing them!

You're so right about the importance of keeping things on the lighter side. Had the fans around us started getting too upset.. you better believe I would have stopped laughing!!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Megan, in the section I sit at the AAC, no opposing team member save for 2 has ever lasted the entire game. We run them out with our incessant chants, friendly intimidation and jeers.

Hmmmmm......Must be kinda' like wearing my Red Sox cap and jacket to Yankee Stadium, huh? I had to fight my way out of the joint after Boston beat NY in a crucial September contest. No NY cabbie would stop. I wound up taking a bus (or six) back to the hotel. But, GOD, I loved it!!

That's funny, KK, but that is a long, long rivalry.

That's what makes sports so cool though.
