Somebody warn Tim!

It's official. Next Monday, April 16th is the day i'll be returning to Good Day. I've had a wonderful time on the evening shift (the crew has been amazing!), but i'm also looking forward to returning to what I know best.

Thanks again to everyone for being so understanding during the changes!

As most of you already know, our own Heather Hays is about to be a new mom! (Congratulations Heather and Jeff!). She's going on maternity leave March 16th.. and i've been assigned the oh-so-difficult task of attempting to fill her very big shoes while she's away.

That means i'll be temporarily leaving Good Day to co-anchor Fox 4 News at 6pm and 9pm with Steve Eagar. I'm very excited about the opportunity to try something different for a few weeks (not to mention the fact that I get to sleep in!).

Thankfully, i'm leaving the seat next to Tim in very good hands. Our weekend anchor Natalie Solis will be keeping the chair warm until I come back. I have no doubt she'll do a fantastic job!

I think I speak for all of us when I say -- thank you for staying with us during our little game of "musical chairs."

Hope to see you Monday night!

Another successful Komen Dallas Race for the Cure is in the history books!

I just wanted to personally thank the tens of thousands who woke up early to be a part of this important event. Getting the chance to meet you face to face.. and hear your personal stories is a gift.

I was my third year out at Northpark Center... and let me tell you - my experience was just as powerful as ever!

The truth is, i'm always caught off guard at my own reaction afterwards. There's just something about it that always stays with me...

This year specifically, I got to thinking about a concept I read about recently in a lovely book called, "Everyday Grace." The author asks, how do we make sense of tragedy?

In the sea of pink.. you start to discover the answer...

"The fact remains that there are things we cannot know. Whatever is happening is simply happening. Anything negative that happens has only one purpose: to foster compassion in the human heart. Anything can fuel the fires of compassion if our hearts are open wide enough. Even the most horrific situations can increase within us our capacity to love."

The hope. The tears. The smiles. The LOVE.

To me, that's what the Race for the Cure is all about.

Like it or not, I'm about to expose my entire self to all of North Texas. And there's a good chance it's going to be a "painful" experience.

Let me explain.

You see.. we're about to unveil our brand new, top-secret, state-of-the-art set. It's truly awesome! With it ... comes new music, new graphics -- and new camera shots. LOTS and LOTS of new camera shots.

Some.. full-length.

So.. what's the big deal?

Not much really. Except - selfishly - it means I'm finally going to have to choose style ... over comfort.

(Here comes the confession...)

I wear flip-flops to work nearly everyday.

I know. I know. All of you fashionistas out there are CRINGING right about now. Some may call it "unprofessional"... others will call it "tacky." Me? Well.. I just love avoiding blisters.

I actually bring TWO pairs of shoes to work -- flip-flops AND heels. When I'm behind the desk.. I'm wearing the flip-flops. When we've got a segment where you're going to see all of me.. I do the ole' switch-er-oo.

It's been a great thing. We're often running from studio to studio, with barely enough time to catch our breaths. With the flip-flops.. I can virtually sprint there, without having to worry about breaking an ankle.

Not anymore.

The good news is -- our Good Day fashion experts say flats are "in" this season. (Whatever "in" means.)

Let's just say.. I'm stocking up now.

"I bet I can guess what kind of car you drive," said my new friend with a sly smile.

"Uh oh. I don't think I like this game," I thought to myself. We hadn't known each other long, but he said it didn't matter. He claims he's right 99.9% of the time.

And this time was no exception.

He calls it "a gift"... a sort of "sixth sense." (I call it someone with too much time on his hands). :)

Still... his so-called "gift" did get me thinking about when I first moved back to Texas. You see, a strange thing happened during my first two weeks here. I was asked on THREE seperate occasions the SAME thing: "So. What kind of car do you drive?"

At first, I wasn't sure what to make of the question. Why did it matter? Was there a "right" or a "wrong" answer?

I mean... was the type of car I was driving going to reveal something I didn't want revealed?? I was truly stumped.

For the record -- at the time, I was driving a black Acura. A cute, sporty and oh-so-reliable Acura. So... what did my owning an Acura say about me?

Maybe more than I realized.

A national survey by Roper says almost half of Americans believe their cars match their personalities. (Ahhhhh.. so THAT'S what this was all about!)

But that's not all..

According to a 2005 article in Parade Magazine:

**Cars are an extension of what we want to be—whether that’s successful, cool or just different.

**Car choice comes from the right side of the brain—the emotional, irrational side. It’s driven by psychological needs that most of us don’t recognize.

**Our cars reflect not just who we are... but also how we want others to see us.

**And -- about 25% of people choose cars that make them feel powerful.

Okay. This all sounds a bit too "deep" for me. The truth is, I drove my Acura mainly because it was dependable, fun to drive... and just about all I could afford at the time.

But what do YOU think? Does your car say something about who you are as a person? Do you find yourself judging people based on the car they drive?
