Mitchman's Blog

by Mitchman from Dallas, Texas

Last Post 178 days, 20 hours Ago

We are just days away from the Iowa Caucus and then it is on to New Hampshire.  The candidates on both sides of the political spectrum are scrambling to convince last minute, undecided, voters to embrace them as their candidate for President.  Is the best surprises yet to come?  The 2008 year Presidential elections began close to year and a half ago and the political drama continues to unfold.  Mike Huckabee coming out of nowhere to take the lead in Iowa and edging out Mitt Romney as the front runner in that state could spell disaster for New Hampshire a week later, but it is the democratic race that has me wondering what could come next.

Bare with me on this prediction, this is not based on any poll or focus group, it is just one man’s opinion of what might happen.  If Hillary Clinton does not take the Iowa Caucus and New Hampshire it could hamstring her campaign and cause a weaker showing in South Carolina (John Edwards home state) and on to Super Tuesday and the rest of the primary season.  If Barack Obama wins in the early states and John Edwards come in a close second, that could push Hillary out the race entirely.  If that happened it would open the door for a dark horse to ride into town and take the democratic nomination.  Who could this dark horse be?   None other than former Vice President and 2000 Democratic Presidential nominee, Al Gore.

Okay, so why Al Gore?  Well, he has had a great year for starters.  His documentary film, AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH created such a buzz and his passion for the environmental movement breathed new life into this often rigid politician.  Did anyone see his turn as host of Saturday Night Live after the 2000 elections?  He was brilliant, if only he had done that before the election it may have helped him over the hump and win the election (I know the election is still a sore subject for many so we will move on now).

He won an Oscar for the film and garnered numerous other awards as well, but these pale in comparison to winning the NOBEL PEACE Prize in 2007.  He is a man that shows heart and conviction, he is intelligent, driven, focused and carries with him international recognition.  He is far enough removed from the day to day silliness of Washington, but has the experience to charter those choppy waters if elected President (again).

But why would he wait so late?  The answer is simple, as a favor to the Clintons.  He wanted to give Hillary her fair shot at the presidency before he entered the race.  He would have cast to wide of a shadow if he had been competing for his party's candidacy right now.  He patiently waits in the wings until his party calls him back into service.

Again this is just one man’s opinion of what could happen.

In the next couple of weeks I will begin a series of blogs called THE MAKING OF A PRESIDENT, what it takes to become the President of the United States, by studying the men that have held that office, in particular, in the 20th Century.  I hope you will find the blogs helpful and entertaining.

Will look forward to your future blogs, Mitchman, but believe that your confidence in Gore is misguided .......

Interesting thoughts. But regarding your comments on Al Gore and global warming, here's a copy of a blog by another writer on another site. I concur, believing that Gore is generally disingenuous in his nature:

Al Gore again . . . . . . .

Al Gore, our errant leader of the movement to halt Global Warming, has again made misleading and incomplete comments on this issue, and the role of the United States. Near the end of his speech at the UN climate change conference in Bali, he said "My own country, the United States, is principally responsible for obstructing progress here in Bali. We all know that."

Several countries in the Kyoto Protocol refused to sign the latest agreement because of disagreeable language. But no other countries or details were mentioned in the context of Gore's remark.

If he was really sincere about the Global Warming issue, and not his own ego, he wouldn't make such comments, courting the UN and slamming America.

end.

I think the entire year will be interesting, Mitchman. I've seen many campaigns and elections, but this is the craziest so far. Look forward to your comments.

Mitch, I was with the 1/508th Parachute Infantry, 82nd Airborne, at Ft Bragg. I tried to re-enlist as a Combat Photog but there were "no slots open." lol Therefore I ETS'ed.

Why doesn't Gore point the finger at China? They are doing more harm than anyone!

Scotty,
Thanks for your comment. Always a pleasure to meet another paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. You are right, Al Gore should point the finger to China. China needs to be held to a higher standard. As you know from your ARMY experience (The Non-Commissioned Officers motto) the U.S. should LEAD BY EXAMPLE, and show the world that we are being responsible when it comes to the environment.

Leading By Example has several extensions ... one is not surrendering loyalty to relieve the responsibility of others ...

This group of candidates is interesting and hard to pick ... we may get a surprise or two in coming months ... best wishes on trying to keep up with it all ... I admire your stamina.

Nobel Peace prize ... for a hoax. That sums up Al Gore. He has choosen to believe, and make others believe, that global warming, enduced by human productivity, is the biggest tragedy we're facing. Not facts, no proof, just his 'religious' belief.
He was a poor VP ... and I can't see him giving up his FORTUNE for a cut in pay as president.

Any good military man knows how to lead by example....but, not over a cliff.

Al is caught up in his own little world of junk science and - one day - will be seen as a gigantic buffoon.

I don't disagree that much can be done to improve our quality of life, but I'm just not buying what big Al is selling.

I am a Texan through and through, but I come from a family yankees (New York City to be exact). You can imagine being the first in my family to be born in Dallas, Texas. They all said I was adopted, not a true WEST, but you know what I take pride in being from Texas. Anyway, besides coming from a large family (6 siblings) and a family that converted from Irish Catholic to Southern Baptist, we are all military too (well at least the men our family are). Wow, the more I think about it, I should write a sit-com about my family. Look out FOX TV, I have your next hit right here!!!! I was a parartrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division where I served a broadcast journalist (yes those kind of ARMY jobs do exsist). After the military I returned home recieved my undergraduate from Hardin-Simmons University and attended film school at University of Texas (Austin). I now over-see our online sales division for Fox TV here in Dallas. Enjoy the Blogs!
