Mitchman's Blog

They have finally surfaced and just in the nick of time for Super Tuesday, the Wal-Mart Tapes.  These tapes, released this week from a small Arkansas based production company hired to video tape the Board of Directors meetings for Wal-Mart.  Senator Hillary Clinton served on the board of directors for Wal-Mart from 1986-1992 in which time here husband, Former President Bill Clinton was governor of the state that served as headquarters of Wal-Mart, Arkansas.

There a few interesting points to be made here.  Hillary has gained the support of many union organizations around the country; it helped her win the state of Nevada’s primary a few weeks ago.  It is no secret that Wal-Mart has been anti-union from the very beginning.  The have squelched numerous employees from forming a union within the company and even terminating employees for talking about unionization, characterizing those employees as traitors to the good of the company.   Why was Hillary not fighting for her scared unions then, she was collecting a paycheck and stock dividends from the company, why not improve conditions of the employees as well?

Second, this “Buy America” campaign was a joke.  President Clinton and wife say they spearheaded the "Buy America" campaign during her tenure on the board.  It has now been revealed that almost 50% of the products were produced in third-world countries and an American label was then placed on the merchandise.  According to the Clinton camp they had no idea any of this was happening.  They were under the impression that this merchandise was being made and manufactured state side.

What about the environmentally friendly Wal-Mart of today.  President Bill Clinton was ready to defend his wife’s board of director’s position the day before the South Carolina primary saying that she worked to make the company more environmentally friendly.  He stated that Wal-Mart sold more energy-efficient light bulbs then any other retailer.  That’s like saying I give to charity by dropping my left over pennies in that jar on the counter at a gas station labeled, "Need A Pennie, Take a Pennie".  They are the largest retailer in the country.  By pure volume, they would sell more energy-efficient light bulbs.  Nice try Bill, but no cigar (no pun intended there by the way).

Well, this is just another blow to Hillary and her campaign for the presidency.  Tonight she will square off with Obama  in the first debate without John Edwards (he dropped out yesterday) and the last before Super Tuesday.  I know I will be tuning in, will you?  Until next time America….YOU KNOW THE DEAL, KEEP IN REAL!

Good for WalMart for being non union, since unions morphed into blackmail agents, long ago. If you don't like where you work, go some where else. That's the choice, liberty, this country offers.

The Dem debate is becoming more 'interesting', but 'the Obam' will fall under the pressure of the huge Clinton machine.

Great reporting! Wal-Mart is the scourge of our nations manufacturing backbone.

I have been in plants in Mexico where they take Chinese manufactured products out of the box, mark them "Hecho in Mexico" (Made in Mexico) and put them back in the box. Under NAFTA, these products can then enter the USA duty free. Under Mexican law, if they do ANYTHING to the product IN Mexico (Like stamp it Made in Mexico) then it qualifies as "Made in Mexico".

This is all bogus, and Wal-Mart is up to their necks in it.

Chard, I was wondering if you have any inside knowledge of unions and what they represent?
Up until about 5 years ago, I also thought unions were unnecessary. Then I began working for the railroad. My eyes have been opened.

Our union is not only watching out for railroad employees and other American workers' jobs, but also the safety of the public.

I promise if it weren't for our union, the public wouldn't be as safe as they are. Whether you realize it or not, my union is looking out for you.

Mitchman, back to subject.
My union is also backing Hillary at this point. I really am not excited about that choice. I hope Obama wins the nomination.

I am truly a libertarian, but until I see them have a chance, I will vote democrat.

Scotty, I'm just a person that believes in personal freedom. Whatever you want to call it is fine with me.

I want to thank all of you for reading my blog this week and many of you who have made comments. That is the beauty of this forum, everyone has the right to express their opinion. CBFan, there is a place for unions in our the workforce, and they have done a lot of good for workers through the years. No organziation is perfect, but with good checks and balances, the organizations have a good chance of continuing to contribute to the welfare of workers in the U.S.

No, cbfan, be who you are.

But you made my point when you said you'd vote Democrat as long as no Libertarian has a chance.

That follows my contention that Libertarians are liberal for the most part.

I am a Texan through and through, but I come from a family yankees (New York City to be exact). You can imagine being the first in my family to be born in Dallas, Texas. They all said I was adopted, not a true WEST, but you know what I take pride in being from Texas. Anyway, besides coming from a large family (6 siblings) and a family that converted from Irish Catholic to Southern Baptist, we are all military too (well at least the men our family are). Wow, the more I think about it, I should write a sit-com about my family. Look out FOX TV, I have your next hit right here!!!! I was a parartrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division where I served a broadcast journalist (yes those kind of ARMY jobs do exsist). After the military I returned home recieved my undergraduate from Hardin-Simmons University and attended film school at University of Texas (Austin). I now over-see our online sales division for Fox TV here in Dallas. Enjoy the Blogs!
