I was born in 1989. Now, I've noticed a lot of kids my age are pretty oblivious as to what's coming in the next few years. My generation faces an economic crisis, a quagmire of foreign affairs, an epidemic of apathy, an energy crisis, and probably a load of other problems staring us in the eye that have yet to realize or acknowledge.

While there are always exceptions to the majority, it just seems that the sins of the father are bleeding into the sons and daughters. Are we equipped to handle global warming? Are we educated enough to deal with foreign affairs? Are we cool and capable enough to handle an economic disaster? Or are we going to be insightful when we have to look for another energy  source? Is my generation being taught?

Even if we were being prepared, it doesn't seem as if we seem to care. I've seen it firsthand, we like to procrastinate and surround ourselves with convenient distractions, but for how long? When will we press 'Pause' on our iPods and take a look around at what we have to fix if our current leaders do not.

Are we ready for this?

I've been warned many times already that life will be hard for my generation in college and right as we graduate. A new batch of job-seekers? Or another volley of unemployment rate statistics?

I can only hope, if these problems in the world aren't handled with as much seriousness as they should be, I can only hope, that my generation can mend it.

O November, Won't You Come?

Many people my age are looking forward to voting and using their right as a citizen in a democratic society to make a change in pace concerning the chief executive of our nation. However, is it just me? Or does it feel as if this election has been going on for far too long? I'm a fan of democracy just like everyone else, but from all the candidates calling "dibs" on the nomination for their respective party's two years ago to the mud-slinging and pie-throwing going on today.

There's things I like about some candidates and there's things I don't like about some candidates. I'm not going to openly support any of the three major candidates right now, but may the best (wo)man win.

Simply that. Dirk has been playing hard and excellent since he joined the Mavericks and I'm happy to see that he's finally made it to earn himself the MVP title. Now people are naysaying this simply because of the Maverick's less-than-satisfactory performance in the first round of the playoffs. We can't really hold something like that against Dirk. Wouldn't you be nervous and a bit shaken if you were playing in the playoffs for one of the nation's most popular sports? Even more shaken when the other team starts beating you? It's hard to regain your focus and straight-forward mentality under those circumstance.

So, as some of Dirk's own fans and mostly others who are complaining about the NBA's decision, I applaud him wholeheartedly and I look forward to him doing better in the future.

P.S. In my own opinion, I think these MVP titles should go to players who are highly-skilled and show obvious sportsmanship off and on the court/field. It pushes better role models for kids who look up to athelete's. Steve Nash for example would be an excellent choice. A philanthropist and an excellent basketball player? I think we have ourselves a paradoxial athelete.

I feel like this is falling on deaf ears, but...

I find American Idol to be the most over-rated and repugnant show on TV. It fails to peak my musical interest and the auditions at the beginning of the season are getting trite. Personally, I think that music is losing its value with my own generation. American Idol is an example for that idea. Are most of the hopeful's on that show singing to prove their skill or musicianship? No, they do it for the title and fame.

I might change my opinion of they made a similiar show but with guitar work. 'That' would be interesting.

P.S. Singing is over-rated anyways.

Hey! I'm a soon to be college freshman who is finishing high school at Lakeview Centennial High School. I've lived in Texas all my life, and been a fan of Good Day on Fox 4 before I could read. I plan on attending Richland Community College, and I am also a local session musician.
