In the report, police were looking into cars to see if valuables were left in sight inside the car. If they saw something in the car, they put a note on the windshield. Wouldn’t this be a flag for a crook to look in the car? I know the police are trying to cut down on crime and I agree the people shouldn’t leave things out in plain sight in their car, but there has to be a better way for the police to notify the car’s owner.

When I saw that I was thinking, "Why not just put a flashing sign on the vehicles saying break into me"!

A couple of other stupid things that the cops do at the malls:
the skyboxes - you can see right through them and can tell if a cop is sitting in one. (and they're not! They're empty.)
the cops on horseback - stupid. Do they think they could catch somebody on one of those horses out in the middle of traffic? Baloney!

I'm guessing they just figured if they could see the stuff, so could someone looking to steal it. A note wouldn't really make any difference one way or the other. A thief is a thief, they're not gonna stop to read the note on the windshield.

I agree they won't stop and read the note, but now that it has been on the news (I assume crooks watch the news too), all they have to do is ride around the mall and look for the note on the windshield.

I would blame the media for that one, they don't have to tell everything that goes on. And there was certainly no need to say where they were doing it. Sometimes the media just needs to know to STFU. My piddlin 2 cents

Seems to me the police would be making better use of their time at the malls by providing surveliance rather than snooping in folks' cars and leaving notes. If people are so stupid as to leave money and other valuables in plain view in their cars, they deserve to be robbed.

Hopefully, the police are watching AFTER they place the note on the car and can catch a thief in the act. Tehehehe - I guess that will be another "entrapment" consideration.

Man - saying they didn't think that one out is an UNDERSTATEMENT!!

Wonder how many are gonna sue if their car gets broken into AND they have one of those papers on their vehicle?

You know it will happen.

They would have a field day with my car, lol, I haul a portrait studio everywhere I go. Only room for me to drive in there, lol. I imagine they would be standing there waiting for me to come out of the store, just to find out what the heck I am hauling, too funny.
