I just received an email from Bank of America saying my account is being blocked due to the number of failed attempts to access it. I know this is a hoax as I don't nor have I ever had an account at Bank of America. Does anyone know who or where I should report this?

Thanks

Banks will not email you in this kind of situation. If they can't contact you in the traditional sense (phone or in person), they will freeze the account.

It's probably an attempt to get your banking information so they can clean out your account. Look at the email address it came from, probably India or Nigeria. Don't think there is anything you can do about it as it happens thousands of times a day. Click it off as Spam or Junk mail so you won't get any more.

It's an attempt to steal your identity.
They will ask you to verify your bank account number starting with the routing number. That right there tells them the name of your bank without you saying it. Then they will ask you to verify your social security number. Next thing you know they will empty out your account.

I received a very official looking email and knew they don't ask you for information via email, since your bank already has it.

They are phishing for victims and may find some who bank with B of A that get worried reading that and give out their info before thinking.

Thanks for all the info. I did a search on Bank Of American and scams. They are aware their clients have become targets and they provided a way to forward the info, which I did.

God, I hate a thief.

You can forward the entire Email to:

Abuse@(insert Email Server Name here).com or .net

Of forward it to your local PD....OR both.

That type of email is called phishing. Most likely if you respond, then they'll ask for your account #, etc. What you need to do is report this email to Bank of America.

Yeah, those people are just trying to get your financial info. I even get emails from a site claiming to be the Federal Govt. (irs.gov)regarding a suposed refund which is fake. They need to round up those creeps and put them all in prison.
