Shopping for school clothes is not on my calendar, but if it were, I don't think I could bring myself to buy clothes in a resale shop. I grew up wearing hand me downs and I don't want to wear clothes used by anyone but me now. Same with antiques, they are just someone else's used furniture.

As for the $150 jeans!!!! Are you freaking kidding me? No one in their right mind should be paying that for a pair of jeans for a kid who can out grow them in a few months. No wonder our nation's population is having so many financial problems. Besides, most schools now won't let kids wear jeans to school. Are these jeans for after school wear?

Also, the story about parents taking home equity loans to put their kids through college? My parents couldn't afford to send me to college so what college I do have, I got through night courses while working a full time job. I see nothing wrong with a kid putting themselves through college. If the parents default on the home equity loan, I am thinking they could still loose the home. Am I right?

$150 jeans for kids is outrageous. But really cheap clothes can be just as bad. I'll never forget the year my parents made me wear these awful generic, no-name sneakers to camp (we called them Skips)so I wouldn't ruin my good sneakers. The kids made fun of them and I felt felt embarrassed by them every single day.

I love to go clothes shopping for my kids.

I went hit up all the stores at the mall when I know that they are cleaning out their "old" products to put in the new.

Sears had an awsome sale a couple of weeks ago. I was able to buy over one thousand dollars worth of clothing for 4 for under two hundred dollars. And, I am talking good brands. SouthPole for the boys, US Polo for dad, Hannah Montanna for my grandaughter. I went crazy!!!!!

I called my sister and together, we hit up all the Sears that we could get to befor allt the goods were gone!!

$150 for jeans is asinine.
Chance losing your home is even more asinine.
IT does NOT hurt kids to do without, in fact, it builds character and responsibility. And ANY kid can work his way through college. It's been done for 200 years and these privileged, Ipod kids can do it too.
You are RIGHT.

Our kids wear uniforms as well...but, I have learned that spending alittle more on clothes and shoes, does make the product last longer.

For instance, I don't buy Payless shoes for my kids. They make their feet sweaty and stinky.

The way I see it...if you can get something that usually costs $60.00 for $5.99. I am definitely going to get it.

My mother used to make my clothes and I was never ashamed of it...but, times HAVE changed and kids are meaner.

TM....that is why they went to uniforms.
There were too many problems at the schools with some picking on others because of their shoes and clothing.

If one says it don't happen, then I'd like to know what school the kids go to with nice cheerleaders and "in crowd" that does not pick on kids.

Kevin, you are right, kids can be mean. Cheap is not a good thing either. My mom always wants to get the cheapest of everything. I have tried to convince her that getting a better product will be cheaper in the long run, but it doesn’t have to be the very best.

LMK, I went to Sears recently and got several golf shirts for $5 that were originally $40. I hate shopping unless I can get a deal like that.

TM, I have a 14 yr old nephew who is an only child. My sister will tell him no and his dad will come right in behind and get whatever it was he wanted. I cannot believe what they have spent on baseball bats. He is not into name brand clothes unless it is Under Armor. He wears standard dress at school and that helps dad keep the credit card in the wallet.

Char, I think a kid really has to want a degree to be willing to work and go to school. I did it for awhile, but didn’t finish. My brother wanted his degree and went to school at night for years. He was in the Air Force so he was out of the country from time to time so he couldn’t go then. After he retired, he still went to school and was just a few hours short when he passed away. He was a man who wanted a degree. There should be more people who want an education like he did.

Ted, you are good man. At least your wife saved enough for a good lunch. Tell her that she has one less to fight for those clothes.

LMAO @ Ted.

You are just like my hubby!!! Except, I will drag him in with me. After a while, he starts to find deals of his own and adds to the collections.

I love to shop for a good bargin. I don't care if it take me hours. I believe that if you pay a good price for a good product, you should get your moneys worth.

TM...my sister buys nothing but Coach purses herself...she is a fanatic of them. I rarely used purses, but, she has given me her hand me downs of coach purses and I really do enjoy using them and showing them off. *giggles*
I would never be able to pay that price for my own.

Now, put me in the appliances and cookware and I don't care what, I will pout until I get what I want!!! LOL

I believe that a good expensive pan cooks a great meal!! But, I shop for those sales and use my coupons!

kids are mean, becuz parents tell them how special they are cuz they spend huge amounts of money on them, so they hold it over other kids telling them how much more their parents love them becuz of what they spend, what materialistic way to raise kids, no wonder thee is so much unhappinesss in the world, money buys things, but will not buy love !!

I've thought about robbing my neice but i'm afraid she'd recognize me but i sure would love to have some of her purses. At Christmas a boyfriend gave her a $300.00 purse...by valentines day they were broken up. lol

i'm a on sale shopper...i hate paying retail for anything. Best buy ever...a jewelry store was going out of business here so i went in looking around and there was an 18 carat gold band for 15.00 ... yall know i bought that ring quick! It weighs 5 grams ... i'm still amazed at the price.

Dak....what you say is not so. I buy my kids things because I want to. Not to make them feel special. But, they also loose the privledges of some of those things when they need to be taken away. Just because you try to buy your kids some good stuff does not make it materialistic.

But, if that is what people who can't do it or just won't, want to call me....so be it.

TM...My sister bought me a Katy purse for my Bday. I LUV IT!!! Now, like I said...I would not do it for myself, but, if someone wants to give me one...then, hey, I will take it!! lol

You know, I went to Marshall's and bought my kids uniforms for 5.99 for the tops and bottoms. Have you got yours yet?
I have to buy my sons in the mens dept. now...so, it is going to be more expensive.

Shoes are a bargin at Marshalls Mega Shoe Store!!! I buy his KSwiss there for $24.99

My kids wore what I could afford, and that wasn't the name brands.
I told them ifkids they went to school with worried more about what they had than who they were, they weren't much of a friend.
Grananimals, and payless shoes, wore just as well as any other clothes. I just wish they had uniforms way back then.
Now they can buy what they wish, and I still save money buying Payless and WalMart and sales.
If what You wear, is who You are, then to me there is a problem.

babysister, when it comes to your children being in junior high or high school, those granimals and payless shoes are not going to cut it. Those things fall apart. And very quickly, may I add.

I wore converse when payless used to sel them, now they are a name brand. But, I still buy them for my kids and husband because they like them and they are a good quality of shoe.

If your feet don't sweat when you walk 1/2 a mile in payless shoes, then you are doing good. You have great feet, but, try your kid walking everyday to and from school and playing in those payless shoes for recess everyday and tell me that their feet don't sweat and stink.

WalMart has some good buys...but, you have to becareful what size you buy. It will shrink.

I don't care what people think about what I spend on my kids things. I'd rather they have something that is going to stay on them and last them longer than me having to go and spend $10.00 every 2 months for a new pair of shoes because they fall apart or get too nasty.

Alot of cheap clothes fall apart, shrink or get wider or fade very quickly when you wash them.

Someone told me once you if you are going to fork out a lot of money for something, spend it on your shoes and your bed. If you don't sleep well and you feet hurt, you will never be happy.

Kids have always picked on other kids regardless of how much they had. My brother was picked on the whole time he was in school in the 50's and 60's. Some of the kids picking on him were just as poor as we were.

Kids pick on each other because they are all insecure and want to fit in. Now days it might be for more material things than in the past.

I agree with that NT. Your bed is important!!

I hate my mattresses and if I want a really good one, I'm gonna have to fork out a good 800 buckaroos!!

I won't buy those refurbished ones....I saw a sgement on the news on them and it was not good!!!! **getting chills**
