District Attorney Craig Watkins says his staff members didn’t break the law when they asked local corporations for Christmas gifts, because the staffers simply went to their friends and those friends gave the gifts irrespective of the offices that the gift recipients held.

So here’s my question to you? Do you think the corporations that gave nice gifts for a DA’s staff party did so out of personal friendship or could it have had something to do with the fact that a representative of the District Attorney was asking for a gift?

And by the way, if someone gave you luxury suite tickets to a Cowboy’s game a few months ago, would you remember the name of the person who gave you the tickets? Both Craig Watkins and his assistant, Gloria James, say they can’t remember who provided Cowboy’s tickets for the Christmas giveaway.  They say they didn’t keep records.

Maybe DA Watkins can share a room with the DA from Rockwall. I'm sick of politicians thinking they can get by with everything.

My kids say i forget ALOT but even i would remember who gave me football tickets. I wish it was as easy to vote someone out of office as it is to vote them in. On every level of our govt. there is corruption.

Don't guess we should worry too much tho..i'm sure they show up at church to be seen on sunday mornings...ooops i mean to repent on sunday mornings

Representatives of the District Attorney asking for gifts smells of CORRUPTION. How is this legal? I thought they were not supposed to have even a hint of impropriety?!
Totally absurd. I hope there's a deeper investigation by some unbiased people, which wouldn't include the DA's office!

Watkins is a crook. He wouldn't even prosecute 3 cops who blackmailed a former prostitute who they had sex with for a period of 3 years.

This is outrageous. I had hoped that the DA's office was improving .Now it is obvious it is far more corrupt than previous administrations.

Let's see, the D.A and his assistant don't remember who gave them luxury suite boxes to a Cowboys game? That should tell us a little something of the quality of prosecution in Dallas County, shouldn't it?
What else have they conveniently forgotten?

Craig Watkins had a closet full of skeletons when he won this office. I certainly didn't expect things would get any better. And I hope there is an investigation into these gifts. He would like to paint himself as the knight who swooped into save Dallas County. For example, he takes credit for all the DNA exonerations of late, but if you look at the dates when the "Innocence Project" began their queries, you'll see that Craig Watkins had little to do with any of them.

And, Mr. Watkins' statement to Fox 4 is even further example of his hubris. We should all focus on what he says is good and what he says is bad. There is no room in his world for journalists to do their jobs -- which is to ask questions and find the truth. In this case, the truth is that the District Attorney of Dallas County, the man elected to uphold our laws, broke them and is still sitting in office, a luxury he would not allow others.

I thought they were only banned from accepting gifts from people under investigation...

You would think that with everything else DA Watkins has done they could come up with something better than Christmas party gifts...

The DA and his staff broke the law and ethics of public service. All those involved should be dismissed including the DA. There is no excuse for this conduct.

I have watched Fox 4 news ever since it switched to channel 4. I watch Tim in the morning (who I think is great) and the news at 9 p.m. Last night on the 9 p.m. news I was watching Paul Adrian on the investigation of Craig Watkins and the holiday party. I have read the comments on fox 4 news blog. It is my understanding that Fox 4 news asked for documents from Craig Watkins office and he turned those documents over to Fox 4. If he is corrupt as you are trying to make him out to be do you think he would have turned over those documents? I have been a republican all of my life but I can tell you this what I read and heard about Mr. Watkins his problem is that he is probably the most honest politician that this country has ever seen. The former DA’s have hidden evidence so they can keep innocent men in prison. How many more men are there in prison for a crime they did not commit and there is no DNA to prove their innocence? The former administrations sure didn’t care about hiding evidence. Why has Fox 4 not ask for documents from previous administrations that have hidden evidence? There is on here a post that the Innocence Project began their inquiries was not during the time of Mr. Watkins. Maybe no one reads the paper, but Mr. Watkins agreed to testing of James Woodard (28 years in and was innocent) prior administrations Hill (denied Woodard testing) and Wade hid evidence. Same thing for Thomas McGowan (23 years in) and other ones that have come out in the past year and half. It was Mr. Watkins idea to create a unit to look at these cases. I am sure you wouldn't want a f

family member in prison for a crime they did not commit. What is really sad the real guilty person is out there probably still committing crimes. Where is the justice in that. Mr. Watkins gave Fox 4 these documents about the holiday party because he wasn’t hiding anything. His staff asked for the gifts. Maybe his staff didn’t know it wasn’t right to do this. So you persecute Mr. Watkins? The problem is that Fox 4 has looked into anything to corrupt Mr. Watkins and this is what they came up with. Mr. Watkins is making history across the United States because he really cares about the citizens of Dallas County. I looked at the attachment of the letter that Mr. Watkins wrote responding to this which is on your website. He says that he spent $4500 personally on the holiday party for his employees. Fox 4 as well as other news were even invited to the party so Mr. Watkins wasn't trying to hide anything like you are trying to make it. I think there are politicans and former employees that can't stand the good that Mr. Watkins is doing for Dallas County and will do whatever they can to try to make him sound dirty. It is to bad that Fox 4 didn't care about looking into the hidden evidence in Hill's or Wade's tenure. Maybe if they had investigated it then Mr. Watkins wouldn't be doing the fantastic job that he is doing. Dallas County is truly fortunate to have him as their district attorney. I am ashamed I ever watched Fox 4 News. I will never make that mistake again.

I'm an investigative reporter who can't stand it when people do things that hurt others. This could be through scams or bad laws or pollution. But I believe in the power of journalism. If you have a tip, I'll try to do a story. Perhaps together, we can make our world a little bit better.
