Thank you Evan Andrews for remembering us in East Dallas.  You broke into Regis & Kelly a few minutes ago to alert those in the east of the thunderstorm's location.  I was able to let my dogs out for a quick break before the rain started.  I have been able to count on Fox 4 for every severe weather threat when all other stations forget that lives do exist past Rockwall county.  We can also count on you to give the Lake Tawakoni water levels which is of high importance to Dallas county since that is where they obtain the bulk of their water supply.

Everyone on Fox 4 does an excellent job.  I travel a lot & dread watching other cities newscast.  Keep up the great work!

My trip back to America

The last couple of weeks were such a pleasure.  Two weeks ago my husband and I were in Cincinnati.  The city I lived in for 12 years prior to my move to Dallas 10 years ago.  My husband had business meetings there so I went with him to visit my friends.  The first night we noticed just about everyone spoke English and even more astonishing an English we could understand.  The local news did not have any murder stories, much less the average 3-5 a day you see here.  No stories in which Mexicans are interviewed in Spanish with an English voice over.  The big story of the day was the local schools million-dollar surplus, which they needed to find ways to spend. We also noticed road and constructions crews were black and white citizens, not Mexicans.   Oh how sweet it was to be in America again.  Having lunch one day with a friend of mine whose parents had come here from Germany back in the day when you had to be sponsored to get into this country and work towards your citizenship, we discussed the illegal problem that plagues us in Texas.  She like many of the other German immigrants who settled in Cincinnati, had parents who learned English & spoke it in the home so that it would be their children’s’ first language.  She told me about her dad’s recent stroke and upon his awakening could only speak German.  English was a totally foreign language to him even though he had been speaking it for the last 45 years.  The hospital staff told the family they had to be able to communicate with him. One would think that like here in Texas, in a city with such a large German population every other person would know how to speak German.  Oh, I forgot, Cincinnati is located in America and they all speak English.  Rather than be indignant & arrogantly expect the hospital staff to accommodate their language, my friend’s mom, brother and her all took turns staying with him 24/7 so he had a way to communicate with the doctors and nurses.

Last week I traveled with my husband to Fort Lauderdale.  I expected to encounter the same problems there as we have here in Texas since Florida has such a large Cuban population.  I could not have been more wrong.  Everywhere we went, we never once encountered a person who could not converse with us in English. Even more refreshing were the number of people I encountered while shopping that would say excuse me when they needed to get by, or even just said a friendly hello in passing, even those who were obviously of Cuban descent.

I invite anyone from President Bush on down the ranks to live the life I do here in Texas.  Not the sheltered life of personal chauffeurs, nanny’s, housekeepers, cooks, bodyguards, catered meals, private jets etc… but the life I live of drive through’s where I cannot communicate a simple burger, fries & coke.  Grocery stores where I can’t pass an unknown stranger and say a neighborly hello much less have someone say excuse me when I happen to be in their way.  School systems that have been dumbed down by children who can’t/won’t speak English and have no money because these same children can’t pay.  Hospitals like our closest one who must close due to the high rate of illegals that do not pay their bills.  Paying my auto insurance that tripled upon moving to Dallas because of the many uninsured illegals who travel our roadways, cause accidents, have their construction items strewn all over the highways and take a toll on our pavement causing us to pay higher dollars in toll roads and taxes.  Being the victim of a felony crime by three illegal aliens, a crime like so many others that would have never happened had they not been allowed to enter America.  Live my life for a year and I would guarantee our illegal alien system would be fixed within six months.

My first week back in Dallas after the trip, I went to Wal-Mart in Forney to purchase groceries.  Going down the saltine cracker aisle I noticed every box of Nabisco Saltines were turned to the Spanish side of the box, not English.  So I took the time to flip every one of those boxes to the English side.  Then as I was  going down the center aisle to check out, I encountered a center pallet of the same Nabisco crackers.  You guessed it, the entire pallet except for two still shrink-wrapped cases were turned to Spanish.  I took the time to call over the manager and explain my disgust but I have a suspicion he couldn’t have cared less as he was of Hispanic descent himself.  This is an insult to every legal immigrant that has come to America and embraced it’s culture and took the painstaking steps to learn her language.  Just like my great grandparents did when they came from Italy, just like my friend in Cincinnati whose parents did when they were sponsored to come here from Germany.

My visit back to America those last two weeks were such a delight.  I had forgotten how wonderful it was to live her country, be neighborly with total strangers, conversing with them while standing in a checkout line.  Ordering a burger and fries at a drive through and actually have the associate understand me and get the order right.   Going to a store where signs are not bilingual.  Hearing of schools with surplus money.  Not seeing ladders & paint cans littering our highways.  It was the America I remembered and loved and so dearly miss now that I live in Texas.

Why is this even an issue?  An autistic child can me more of a disruption to a classroom then a trained service dog.  If the school distric would handle this correctly, they first meet with all the parents and ask them to speak with their child about how to handle the dog in their classroom and explain why it will be there.  Open dialog is the key to success of this program.  If there are allergy issues, then the parents have enough time to get their child to a doctor or ask that the child be moved to another classroom if possible.  Lastly, the teacher needs to prepare the children also with open dialogue.  On the first day, the dog needs to become accustomed to all children and vice versa.

Yes, for about a week it will be a novelty and will undoubtedly take some students minds off classroom.  However, this is a classroom of four year olds that already have short attention spans and their classes are arranged around this.  After about a week, the children won't even realize the animal is there.

If this gives a child a better chance at learning, then we should be all for it.   Why would anyone want to deny this child a better education or even one for their own children by cutting down the disruptions an autistic child may cause?  The parent who asked the school district to deny this is speaking out of  ignorance and selfishness.  Why should they believe their daughter is entitled to the best education possible but an autistic child isn't allowed that same entitlement?

When reporting area lake levels, you should always report Lake Tawakoni's.  It is still extremely low and this is the largest water supplier for Dallas.  If the Dallas residents see that other surrounding lakes are almost full and never see how low Tawakoni still is, they will stop conserving water, which right now is still desperately needed.  Tawakoni's lake level needs to be kept forefront in their minds since it is still not at full level and Dallas continues to draw off it daily.  I'm afraid that if they are not kept aware of this fact, the smaller water co-ops and special utility districts in the Tawakoni area that draw their water supply from the lake, will not have enough water to supply their customers since they have no other lakes to draw from.

Here we go again.  Mexicans living in this country that absolutely refuse to learn the language.  Here's what I have to say on this story.

1.  Had the DRUNK driver learned English he would still be alive today.

2.  Had the DRUNK driver followed our law & not driven when he was DRUNK he would be alive today.

It is NOT our responsibility for us to learn Spanish nor is it law enforcements responsibility to learn it either.

It is getting more absurd & disgusting by the day that someone thinks they can live in this country without learning the language, then when something happens to them they bear NO responsibility.  Not to mention this person already had a drunk driving conviction AND it was ok for HIM to drive drunk potentially killing innocent people on the roads that night.  Oh....but all that is justified and his family can now sue and live the American rich dream because he takes absolutely NO responsibility for his own actions.  And to further hack me off, they interview the brother who also can't be interviewed in English.

I know I'll get lambasted for being cold hearted but I'm glad he is dead.  I spent one year at Christmas unable to walk because I had been hit by a drunk driver on December 23rd and I still remember to this day calling my family who lived in another state on Christmas and telling them what had happened.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who is convicted of drunk driving should also be convicted of attempted murder because we know the statistics of drunk drivers who kill others.  And this guy already had one conviction.

I ask his family, would they have rathered have had him kill someone else in a head on accident?  Oh, thats right, I can't ask them that because they don't speak English.

You want to live in this country?  Then take responsibility for yourselves, learn English & follow our laws.  I hope their lawsuit gets thrown out quicker than they can say booohooo.

The former speaker used a small private jet.  Ms. environmentally friendly here needs a 757.   Doesn't anyone see the hypocrisy of the left?  I'm sorry but this woman does not need my hard earned $$$ going towards taxes which pay for her fuel & flight staff for a 757 nor is it good for their so called GLOBAL WARMING.  She can be just as comfortable in a private jet.

My great grandparents came from Italy & not only learned the language & spoke it but also made their 3 daughters do the same. I have several friends whose parents came from Germany & it was the same rule in their household. I'm just sick and tired of the plain unamerican direction this country has gone. I'm sick of feeling like I HAVE to learn Spanish to live in my own country, sick of people with their hands out whining give me, give me, give me. I'm sick of paying taxes to support them. I have travelled all over the world & it would be quite arrogant of me to live in a non-English speaking country and expect it's citizens to accommodate me. I'm all for legal immigration and anyone here illegally needs to get out.
