Here we go again.  Mexicans living in this country that absolutely refuse to learn the language.  Here's what I have to say on this story.

1.  Had the DRUNK driver learned English he would still be alive today.

2.  Had the DRUNK driver followed our law & not driven when he was DRUNK he would be alive today.

It is NOT our responsibility for us to learn Spanish nor is it law enforcements responsibility to learn it either.

It is getting more absurd & disgusting by the day that someone thinks they can live in this country without learning the language, then when something happens to them they bear NO responsibility.  Not to mention this person already had a drunk driving conviction AND it was ok for HIM to drive drunk potentially killing innocent people on the roads that night.  Oh....but all that is justified and his family can now sue and live the American rich dream because he takes absolutely NO responsibility for his own actions.  And to further hack me off, they interview the brother who also can't be interviewed in English.

I know I'll get lambasted for being cold hearted but I'm glad he is dead.  I spent one year at Christmas unable to walk because I had been hit by a drunk driver on December 23rd and I still remember to this day calling my family who lived in another state on Christmas and telling them what had happened.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who is convicted of drunk driving should also be convicted of attempted murder because we know the statistics of drunk drivers who kill others.  And this guy already had one conviction.

I ask his family, would they have rathered have had him kill someone else in a head on accident?  Oh, thats right, I can't ask them that because they don't speak English.

You want to live in this country?  Then take responsibility for yourselves, learn English & follow our laws.  I hope their lawsuit gets thrown out quicker than they can say booohooo.

It would appear that he and his 'friend' were both illegal, from what the friend said, in spanish.
He was drunk, broke the law, twice, and paid with his life. Shame, but who's fault? Appears to be his own.

that year you spent unable to walk because you were hit by a drunk driver , what language did THAT drunk driver speak?

Hey hillbilly, did I even say it was OK to drive drunk if you speak English? hmmm....I think I was extremely clear about that in my blog. However, since you asked, my drunk driver was alive because he spoke English and could follow the commands of the officer. Alive and spend much time in jail since it was also HIS second offense.

The only thing I agree with you on, is the idea that drunk drivers should also be tried for attempted murder. I agree wholeheartedly. I'll pay a few extra dollar a year in taxes to keep drunk drivers in prison. Maybe that will make peopel who choose to drink, then drive think twice- and for those who don't and get caught, as Ann Richards said circa 1992, "We have a place for them".

However, no, this was not a good shot for the cop.

Every one of us professionals trusted with a firearm, is trained in the use of deadly force. When to use it, and how to use it. I can understand popping him in the leg if he was that scared. IF it were me, he'd have to be coming out of his jacket with something chrome or black to get the fatal shot from me. After all, the officer had the drop on him... Not even Billy the Kid is that fast.

I can understand the cops pucker factor being high on a stop like that, but- from the angle we've seen- I can't see how anyone would call that a clean/justifiable shoot- but they did...

Herschel, my understanding was that he was shot in the thigh then bled to death. Perhaps I heard that wrong on the news. If his blood doesn't clot like it should, that would explain bleeding to death. I also know from experience that if someone is hyped up on cocaine, a shot to the leg would not do a darned thing to the victim and therefore giving them the opportunity to kill.

PlainUnamerican first let me say that I totally agree with your comment that anyone convicted of drunk driving should be convicted of murder. First of all Drunk Driving IS NOT AN ACCIDENT It is a VIOLENT CRIME that leaves those left behind with unbelievable anger, and devastation. Those that know me know that my cousin lost six year old driver to a drunk driver on August 12, 2000. He has not only lost his daughter, he lost wife, his stepdaughters whom he raised as his own, his home, his job. He lost everything. All because Luis A Gonzales Jr decdided to drink and get behind the wheel of the car. Second of all it is not that officers responisbilty to learn spanish. Obviously from the interview on the news that family is not here legally, and if they are they should have learned english. Better that the drunk driver die than a innocent victim, because there is no justice for the victims. Loren's killer was a first time offender and because our DA's office does not have the guts (I couldn't say what I wanted to say here) to prosecute drunk drivers except when it involves a police officer he was allowed to plea bargin to five years. That is what Loren's life was worth five years. She would have been 13 May 19. The fact that they say he didn't understand because he doesn't speak english is a crock. If he can't speak english then he should have gone home. I am working hard to go after the first time offenders. I believe any drunk driving arrest should be a felony. Disagree with me if you want, however my family knows the devastation that a drunk driver can cause. We would not eve

Sorry the last line was We would not ever want this to happen to anyone else. But I guess PlainUnamerican you know that better than anyone. I pray you will continue to get stronger everyday. If you need me to help fight a battle just let me know.

your drunk driver was alive cuz he spoke english, man that is some kind of statement. ok , let's say he spoke english BUT was so dang drunk he COULDN't follow the cops demands , does that mean that therefore the cop gets to shoot him?

Hi Dalejrfan8, I'm a Stewart fan but Jr runs a very close second for me.

I was fortunate, this happened in the late 80s and because I had been a proffessional ballet dancer, I was able to recover and walk again but it took about 6 years. I still live with 3 compressed neck disks and some back issues, but I am alive and can deal with that and to know me, you'd never know I had been through such an ordeal as I even take a ballet class every once in a while.

I am so saddened by your story of Loren and it's one I hear over & over again. It's especially more heartbreaking when a child is involved because you don't ever expect to outlive your children. My husband is assistant chief of a volunteer fire department, and in the country you see crosses all over the roads from people who have been killed mostly by drunk drivers.

You hit the nail right on the head. Drunk Driving IS NOT AN ACCIDENT It is a VIOLENT CRIME that leaves those left behind with unbelievable anger, and devastation. Can you imagine my parents that day I called them from more that 500 miles away on a Christmas morning to tell them I couldn't walk due to a drunk driver hitting me as he drove home from his Christmas party. Plus added to that, it was his second offense & tested a .23 which was more than double the legal limit.

I know it won't bring back Loren, but if we can get laws changed to be tougher on first time offenders, many other lives can be saved.

Thank you for posting. You don't know how deeply that has touched me.

I will again remind you that statistics show each and every day 13 americans are killed by illegals driving drunk. Maybe our libs in Washington should make an interpreter avialable to ride with each them ! So many of the illegals have multiple arrest records and offenses. They are habitual violators.

Hillbilly, you just keep showing your ignorance. People are killed everyday by drunk drivers, yet you have such a bleeding heart for this two time drunk driver who was illegally in our country and couldn't speak English. See Dalejrfan8's post about his cousin's daughter and it puts this all in perspective. I won't even justify my time answering you from this point forward.

Well I just talk to my cousin today and he isn't doing so well. He is 37 and has high blood pressure and a very serious heart problem. Due to all the stress he had a massive heart attack two years ago. He may not survive another. Loren was a miracle baby, her mother wasn't suppose to be able to have kids. Everytime I hear about someone else being injured or killed by a drunk driver I get angry all over again. I was volunteering with for awhile however my daughter has spent four out of the last seven years on meth so I lost my focus. She is doing really good now so I hope to start volunteering again someday soon. They were so good to my cousin when Loren died. What angers me even more is the attitude of the public. I think the fact that her killer will be getting out of jail this year has been really hard for Steven to deal with. He also told me today he is getting divorced which is something he never wanted. All of this because of the responsibilty of one man. He is getting to move close to me so maybe I can keep an eye on him. Oh and bye the way I love Tony Stewart too. I just wish he could learn to control his mouth, because he has such a good heart. God Bless

I personally knew a lady in Amarillo who was walking on the sidewalk with her little girl. A drunk driver drove across the sidewalk and hit and killed her, and seriously injured the child. The devastation this causes a family is unbelievable ! I do not defend the actions of any drunk driver. The illegals, however, are perpetual violators.

I meant to say habitual, not perpetual. Where did that come from ???? I am losing it in my old age....

RedRiver, I agree. Bleeding hearts get on their high horse when you show statistics or speak the truth. They don't stop to think how many less victims this country would have if these illegals weren't here.

you couldn't answer my question that's the real reason you won't "justify your time" . nobody deserves to get shot on the street because they were drunk and driving.

or maybe they do, let's just shoot every drunk driver from now on , no matter what they do . is that what you are leading too? sure would free up some jail space. you think im a bleeding heart , make a law that every drunk driver gets shot on the spot and i'll be the executioner. just give me a call, ,, talk about ignorance, you people are flat out idiots.

dalejrfan, Tony does have a good heart and a big mouth. He just needs to think before speaking and flying off the handle. Maybe that will come with age.

Usually when a child dies in a tragic accident, it is so hard for the parents to stay together because they start blaming one another. I had a friend whose high school son was killed in an auto accident and I saw he & his wife go through the same thing. She blamed him for letting their son go to the football game & his guilt was so bad he couldn't get passed it. I can sympathise with your cousin even more because after almost 5 years of intense infertility treatments I was unable to have a child. So I can't even imagine what it would be like if I was able to finally have that child, only to loose her that way.

That is what people don't realize. Not only is it the loss of a loved one through the horrendous choices of another, but the residual affect is just as devastating and it's a pain that you live with the rest of your life.

I hope your daughter is doing well. Our young has become so diluted with societys offhanded thinking that it's just too easy now for them to get involved in things that destroy them. Some of the peoples attitudes about this two time drunk illegal is a perfect example. How do we raise our children to be good, responsible adults, when the world around them doesn't think anyone should be responsible for their own actions?

It was an unjustified murder, people. I am against DWI's and illegals, but watch that video and put your drunken self in that guys shoes and see if you deserve to die. That particular cop is a coward and a murderer.

My great grandparents came from Italy & not only learned the language & spoke it but also made their 3 daughters do the same. I have several friends whose parents came from Germany & it was the same rule in their household. I'm just sick and tired of the plain unamerican direction this country has gone. I'm sick of feeling like I HAVE to learn Spanish to live in my own country, sick of people with their hands out whining give me, give me, give me. I'm sick of paying taxes to support them. I have travelled all over the world & it would be quite arrogant of me to live in a non-English speaking country and expect it's citizens to accommodate me. I'm all for legal immigration and anyone here illegally needs to get out.
