When reporting area lake levels, you should always report Lake Tawakoni's.  It is still extremely low and this is the largest water supplier for Dallas.  If the Dallas residents see that other surrounding lakes are almost full and never see how low Tawakoni still is, they will stop conserving water, which right now is still desperately needed.  Tawakoni's lake level needs to be kept forefront in their minds since it is still not at full level and Dallas continues to draw off it daily.  I'm afraid that if they are not kept aware of this fact, the smaller water co-ops and special utility districts in the Tawakoni area that draw their water supply from the lake, will not have enough water to supply their customers since they have no other lakes to draw from.

Lake Tawakoni is currently only 6 feet low which is not bad. But I thought that Dallas got its water from Lake Lewisville. If they wanted to, Dallas could tap Lake Texoma, Lake Wright-Patmon, & Toledo Bend for water. Dallas is also involved in a legal battle with the federal government over a patch of land that is 120 miles east. It is over 28,000 acres and the Gov. wants to turn it into a wildlife refuge. But Dallas wants to make a lake out of it. It would provide the citizens of Dallas over 100 million gallons of water a day. It would be called Fastrill Lake.

Showdog, Toledo Bend is in worse shape than Tawakoni. Yes they can tap into Texoma & Wrigh-Patmon but they control 90% of Tawakoni. Also, Fastill Lake would take years to build and it's the here & now I'm concerned with. Last December, our local water company sent out a letter putting us on a stage 4 emergency drought plan and said that if we didn't receive rain soon then come February they would be unable to pump water. At that point, the water was so low their pumps were already sucking in air.

Yes Dallas can draw off other lakes, but the local communities in Rains, Hunt & Van Zandt can't. We are getting rain now which is tiding us over, but once summer starts and the typical summer drought begins, the local communities will not have any water. This is why it is the of the utmost importance that Dallas continues to conserve since they continue to draw off the lake.

Wow! I didn't know you guys were in such a drought condition. I hope these rains have helped. Lake Chapman is still 10 feet below normal and that's where Irving gets its water. So we are still under level 3 water restrictions.

Thanks Showdog, tt's helped some. The problem is all the little water co-ops and special utility districs that don't have another source to go to like Dallas does. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it'll be a wet summer.

I agree that they should cover all sources of municipal water in the viewing area.

"Dallas is also involved in a legal battle with the federal government "

Who actually possesses the deed? Case closed!

The Dallas area is, or is in the process, of securing water from other places. As population continues to grow (via la mexico) we'll need more and more lakes and God grace, to fill them.

Hope ALL the lakes will be coming up this spring. There's still time. :)

NTMWD (Lake Lavon) draws water from Texoma already, as well as a few others. If Dallas draws from that, it would go down quickly in my view.

There is an unlimited supply of water not 250 miles from here...All they need is desalination plants and pipe!

I have to agree. I live in a Lone Oak, a small town in southern Hunt county. Our water rates are higher than any of the surrounding areas thanks to our City Council and wasted water from Lake Tawakoni. I have lived in this area for over 25 years and it is really aggravating to see Lake Tawakoni several feet lower than the lakes that surround Dallas. Also, there is a plan already in the works for another water line to go the Lake from Dallas. Please conserve water so East Texas will have enough. Thanks.

What's really upsetting is when we're on a water ration and our grass is brown from being able to water our grass every 5 days, and watching Lake Tawakoni dry up and all you can see is a little stream where the lake used to be, and drive to Dallas and see everyones yards all nice and pretty and green and know that our loss and doing what we have to do to conserve what little water we have, the mighty people of the big city seem to not really care and gain from our loss. I know that there are some out there that do care but there are more that don't.

My great grandparents came from Italy & not only learned the language & spoke it but also made their 3 daughters do the same. I have several friends whose parents came from Germany & it was the same rule in their household. I'm just sick and tired of the plain unamerican direction this country has gone. I'm sick of feeling like I HAVE to learn Spanish to live in my own country, sick of people with their hands out whining give me, give me, give me. I'm sick of paying taxes to support them. I have travelled all over the world & it would be quite arrogant of me to live in a non-English speaking country and expect it's citizens to accommodate me. I'm all for legal immigration and anyone here illegally needs to get out.
