This morning I watched as you left the Elementary school where you probably dropped off a child of yours.
I saw you turn onto Arkansas ln. and undoubtedly head for your home or office to start your busy day.
I saw you approach me from behind and pass me...I'm sure you were wondering why that guy in the Chevy truck was going so slow.
And then I found that I was next to you at the next traffic light...so I rolled down my window and after getting your attention I politely informed you that you just sped through a school zone.
I was suprised to hear you tell me to..."mind my own f---ing business" and then speed away.
I wanted to take this opportunity to apologize for intruding in your business and alerting you to something as trivial as the safety of other people's school children, after all you had already dropped yours off... I promise I won't bother you again.

However I did want to caution you to be more polite in the future... or at least take precautions such as obscuring your license plate and removing your parking pass from your place of employment. I forwarded my complaint regarding your offensive driving and language to the Arlington Police this morning... along with your name, address, and place of work that I was able to find with your license plate and my computer. I hope that the police heed your warning and mind their own business as well...but you never know, they just might want to speak to you.

I hope you were not late to wherever you were going this morning, and again I apologize for the intrusion.

Your fellow motorist.

Wow! Nice going. I hope it makes others think twice about school zones as well. Thanks for keeping your cool and refraining from further contact with this individual which probably would have made the situation worse.

Great job, Prestondan. School zone speeders drive me absolutely crazy.

Don't try it in Carrollton. I hope this idiot speeds though the zone north of Old Denton and Frankford. I always see people blow past me, give me a look, and then as lovely karma would have it, they get pulled over by one of the motorcyle officers. I always make it a point to drive by with my window down and do the Nelson Muntz (Simpson's) "HAHA!" as I cruise on by, on time for work and not pulled over.

Darn, I misspelled motorcycle. Me and my "I don't need Spell Check" attitude.

WTG Prestondan!

Tuesday afternoon the Keller PD had radar running in the school zone on 1709 -- which is marked with huge flashing lights, signs, fresh highway painting, not to mention the hundreds of law abiding motorists traveling at 25 mph.

At LEAST every five minutes I heard the sirens wail as one after the other was picked off, flying through this school zone at well over the limit.

I honestly feel that the penalty for such a violation should be similar to speeding in a posted construction zone -- DOUBLE.

WTG again! The idea is wherever you need or think you need to be is never as important as somebody's safety. I watch time & again people speeding through school zones & crosswalks. Sometimes I think if they did hit a child, they'd blame the child for being in the way!

Thanks for the positive words...
I would like to take credit for keeping my cool and attribute it to hours of yoga or some kind of zen-meditation... but the truth is that I was shocked by the foul and arrogant response of the lady in the Expedition.
Although I'm sure the version of the story she told her friends and family is much different than mine, I hope that the result is the same and that she pays a little more attention and slows down.

I think if we all wag our finger (no, not THAT finger) at speeders and ask people not to smoke at the gas pump, the world will be a safer place. We can't wait on the police man to do it all for us.

I have lived in and around Arlington for most of my life. I am married and have a fantastic 5 year old son. I pay taxes, I play by the rules, and I tell the truth...even when it hurts. I truly believe that communication and accountability are the keys to our shared success as a community/city/state/nati
on/ and so on... and I equally believe that those who oppose those values should be our shared enemies. The only way to right the wrongs in today's society, and to build a better one for tomorrow, is to do it ourselves. I hope that this forum allows us as readers to comment honestly on the news of the day and reach a common comclusion that we are not going to stand for the obscene, ignorant, violent, anti-social, negative, and outright foolish actions of some of our citizens (and elected officials). Vote 'em out, lock 'em up, or run'em out of town.
