DISD employees are getting fingerprinted.

It's part of a state law to keep the wrong type of people away from students.

I think it's a great idea to keep away the pedofiles out of the schools.

Hispanic officials and organizations warn that Obama shouldn't consider heavy Hispanic support a lock.

"The big, big question for Latino voters is not whether Democrats will get the Latino votes. The question is what the margin will be," said Cecilia Munoz, senior vice president for policy for the National Council of La Raza, a nonprofit Hispanic organization that fights poverty and discrimination. "If McCain gets 40 percent of the Latino vote, he can win. And Senator McCain, though he may be behind, is not giving up and is running very hard in the Latino community."

McCain is looking to follow in Bush's footsteps with Hispanic voters. The president captured between 32 percent and 44 percent of the Hispanic vote in 2004; analysts' estimates vary. Bush's Texas ties and understanding of Hispanic culture attracted voters.

The Latino vote has became very important in these last few months and McCain is closing in fast.

With hurricane Gustav coming to New Orleans is America ready this time?

The state has a $7 million contract for more than 700 buses to carry an estimated 30,000 people to shelters.

I hope this turns out better than it did 3 years ago because they dragged their feet getting to those evacuees.

"We accept their apologies and their willingness to work with our community, and now we move forward," activist Carlos Quintanilla said. "And now Oscar Urbina lives in peace and tranquility, and Frank Parra continues to get the support of our community that it has had for many, many, many years."

The dealership said it will not press charges against Urbina.

Good job Parra! It's nice to see people working together for a peaceful end result.

According to James Smith, a senior economist, immigrants contribute as much as $10 billion to the US economy each year. The NRC report found that although immigrants, especially those from Latin America, were a net cost in terms of taxes paid versus social services received, overall immigration was a net economic gain due to an increase in pay for higher-skilled workers, lower prices for goods and services produced by immigrant labor, and more efficiency and lower wages for some owners of capital. The report also notes that although immigrant workers compete with domestic workers for some low skilled jobs, some immigrants specialize in activities that otherwise would not exist in an area, and thus are performing services that otherwise would not exist, and thus can be beneficial to all domestic residents. About 21 million immigrants, or about 15 percent of the labor force, hold jobs in the United States. However, the number of unemployed is only seven million, meaning that immigrant workers are not taking jobs from domestic workers. Rather, they are doing jobs that would not have existed had the immigrant workers not been in the United States

Immigrants, both legal and illegal do not raise the rate of crime in the United States and native born Americans are five times more likely to be incarcerated than immigrants.

More facts like the these can be found at Wikipedia.

I responded to Chardoneys blog about undocumented workers and healthcare. I explained that many US citizens about 43.6 Million in 2006 don't have Health insurance. (This does not include the undocumented workers)

She could not debate the facts with me and just deleted those comments and called me names. Has any one else had this problem?

In September 1968 Congress authorized President Lyndon B. Johnson to proclaim National Hispanic Heritage Week which was observed during  Sept. 15 thru Sept. 16. The observance was expanded in 1988 to a monthlong celebration. America celebrates the culture and traditions of those who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

45.5 million is the estimated Hispanic population of the United States as of July 1, 2007 making people of Hispanic origin the nation’s largest ethnic or race minority.

The projected Hispanic population of the United States on July 1, 2050. According to this projection, Hispanics will constitute 24 percent of the nation’s population by that date.
Only Mexico 108.7 million had a larger Hispanic population than did the United States 45.5 million.

The percentage of the Hispanic origin population that lives in California or Texas. California is home to 13.2 million Hispanics and Texas is home to 8.6 million.

1.1 million is the number of Hispanic veterans of the U.S. armed forces.

Immigration in the Olympic games seems to be just fine with Americans. It is the same with professional sports. The US don't mind immigrants in low-wage jobs that none of US citizens want to do. Complaning about undocumented Mexicans making $5 an hour in a chicken plant who lost two of his fingers because of unsafe conditions and labor violations? Should they be more upset about Yao Ming making $15 million a year plus endorsements and spending all his money in China? In America there is a long a history of picking on the little people.

There is 33 immigrants on the U.S. Olympic team this year. Lopez Lomong carries the American flag to everyones cheers and runs the 1500 meter dash. The less fortunate undocumented migrants who are just trying to get to work to make a days pay get ICE coming after them. Factory workers and maids and farmworkers are easy targets. Let's see the anti-immigrant people say bad things about olympic games atheletes for once.

Shower before you swim. No spouting or spitting water. Enforced bathroom breaks. These are some of the things that can be done to stop the spread of Cryptosporidium.

Large numbers of people have reported infections with Cryptosporidium a diarrhea-causing parasite passed on through the feces of animals and humans is often contracted when someone swallows even a small amount of contaminated water.

Dallas and Tarrant and Collin counties have confirmed more than 400 cases of cryptosporidiosis this year mostly from the past few weeks. Last year there was only 62.

Cesar Chavez was a noble and worthy American citizen who worked hard for the rights of workers of the Latino community.

America teaches the story of Cesar Chavez and his nonviolent movement that empowered many Latinos in America.

Dallas was one of the many cities Cesar Chavez visited to promote his cause, visiting as recently as 1991 two years before his death.

14 states and Washington, D.C. have already named parks, libraries, roads and schools after the U.S. born Mexican-American civil rights icon, including Houston, El Paso and Austin which have honored Cesar Chávez with a street.

The city of Dallas has a history of honoring civil rights icons by renaming major roads in downtown Dallas, but still has yet to honor a Latino leader.

The city of Dallas has a Latino population of 43 percent and deserve to have their leaders recognized.

The city of Dallas conducted a survey that found César Chávez to be the top choice to rename Industrial Blvd.

The citizens of Dallas took part in this survey with full faith that their choices would be honored.

Ross Avenue has been offered as a reasonable and highly meaningful road way to be renamed in honor of Cesar Chavez.

Ross Ave. was the starting point of the historic 2006 Mega Marcha in Dallas.

Ross Ave. is home to the Cathedral of Guadalupe in Downtown Dallas, which is one of the most attended churches in the city.

The headquarters of the Dallas Independent School District is located along Ross Ave. which represents a student body that is over 65% Hispanic and minority.

A historical marker for the Ross brothers is being recommended for the entrance to the West End.

Manuel de Jesus Ortega Melendres, a Mexican citizen, entered the United States legally last fall, using a visa valid until 2016 as well as a permit from the Department of Homeland Security. Mr. Ortega had every reason to think he was on the right side of the law except for one small thing having a brown face in Maricopa County.

Mr. Ortega had been in the United States for three weeks last September when Mr. Arpaio's deputies stopped the vehicle he was in. Despite showing the officers his documents Mr. Ortega says he was handcuffed, treated roughly, jailed and finally turned over to federal immigration officials who promptly released him. During the nine hours Mr. Ortega spent in custody, no one offered him a translator, or any explanation for his treatment, or food or water. Nor did anyone advise him of his Miranda rights.

His experience is included in a class-action lawsuit filed in Arizona against Mr. Arpaio, his office and Maricopa County. The complaint recounts similar episodes, including one involving Velia Meraz and Manuel Nieto, U.S. citizens who say they were ordered from their car at gunpoint, handcuffed by sheriff's deputies who seemed to take offense that the pair were listening to music on a Spanish-language radio station.

Latino consumers have limited access to mainstream credit cards with fair terms such as a low annual percentage rate. More Latino consumers are carrying balances and accumulating debt and are more susceptible to harmful credit card practices like default penalty rates and high-cost fees with late payments and purchases made outside the U.S.

The ability of Hispanic families to build the wealth necessary for long-term stability is also decreased. Actions by Congress and the credit card industry can improve financial opportunities for all Americans.

Good credit card related policies would help consumers ban unfair industry practices and promote access to safe and affordable credit cards for Latinos.

Alberto Ruiz and the Cesar Chavez Task Force took major steps to change the name of Ross Avenue to Cesar Chavez Boulevard.

I don't understand what the problem is. Why are some people putting up so much arguments. It's a good thing for Dallas to do because Hispanics represent 42 percent of the city.

The border wall will not make the United States safer or solve our immigration issues, but it will cause great damage to our borderlands and to our standing as a free, democratic nation.

Help us repeal this terrible legislation by swaying Congress and changing national attitudes. If we do not raise our voices a new Berlin Wall will scar our southern border!
