Immigrants in the Olympics

Immigration in the Olympic games seems to be just fine with Americans. It is the same with professional sports. The US don't mind immigrants in low-wage jobs that none of US citizens want to do. Complaning about undocumented Mexicans making $5 an hour in a chicken plant who lost two of his fingers because of unsafe conditions and labor violations? Should they be more upset about Yao Ming making $15 million a year plus endorsements and spending all his money in China? In America there is a long a history of picking on the little people.

There is 33 immigrants on the U.S. Olympic team this year. Lopez Lomong carries the American flag to everyones cheers and runs the 1500 meter dash. The less fortunate undocumented migrants who are just trying to get to work to make a days pay get ICE coming after them. Factory workers and maids and farmworkers are easy targets. Let's see the anti-immigrant people say bad things about olympic games atheletes for once.

There is not a thing in the world wrong with immigrants being a part of the US olympic team...it's when the word ILLEGAL gets put in front of immigrants that the sentiment changes

terrellmom that is a weak excuse right there. When a immigrant makes the US look good in sports and can win in the Olympics then the story is changed around.

oh PM, if it makes you feel better to think that i believe this way because it's sports then go right ahead and think it. Truth is...i couldn't care less about the Olympics but i do care about people and our country. If an illegal was on the US team (even if it was a gold medal winner) i'd say...arrest 'em and deport 'em.

well, PM...if what you say is true and they would push the papers thru for an athlete quicker than they would a reg. person...that's wrong. so if that is your point..you're welcome

My stand on illegals is this...i understand why they come here and our govt should make it easier financially to get here legally. but i'm totally against anyone of any race coming here illegally.

You know, I just feel that they should not be here in the first place if they are not legal.
You don't do demolitian on an historic place without demolitian papers do you. My point is I hate ILLEGALS AND NEVER WILL LIKE THEM.
WHETHER THEY COME HERE TO MAKE BETTER OR NOT.

I AM SO SO SO SICK OF YOUR WHINING, HOW MANY TIMES DO WE HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT THE IMKMIGRANTS AREN'T THE PROBLEM- ITS THAT THEY ARE HERE ILLEGALLY! THAT'S THE PROBLEM! I realize thet they're just trying to better themselves, and I am ALL for that, as long as its done legally and I am not paying tax money for them, their kids and their being in our jails because they broke American laws.
Don't ger me wrong PM, I am against having men & women of ANY race or nationality sitting in jail or on death row without doing something to pay their debt to society. I for one think that everyone should pay taxes in this country, if I have to, you have to and those that want to come here should too.

PM - spell my name right. And your assertion is idiotic. I have yet to see anyone who wasn't American on the team. Also, most first generation immigrants play for their home countries - Yao Ming playing for China being one example.

You're right - I'm a giant redneck and all the rednecks like my gun picture blah blah blah. Now argue the points instead of insulting me.

$5 isn't the rate they ask for in Frisco, Lewisville, The Colony, and Plano. The going rate is $10 per hour, plus you have to pay them for a full 8 hours even if you just work them 4 hours. Add to it, they insist on a 2 hour lunch so they can take their siesta, and you have to buy them lunch.

PM, perhaps you should tell your friends to leave the chicken plant and go stand in front of a 7-11 for work.
