Rich on the Road

Something interesting is happening in the politics of Global Warming -- elements on the Right and the Left are trying to pull Americans toward the Center.

On the Right, Newt Gingrich is telling conservative supporters they need to take climate change seriously, that the evidence of it is overwhelming and that we need to do what we can to protect the environment.

On the Left, new voices are trying to convince their people that "doom and gloom" tactics won't get anything done, that instead they need to get to work on promoting new technologies and tactics that promote change.

The New York Times has a a short video report on its internet site that lays it all out.  Take a look.

yes, it appears that the new term they want to use it "climate change".... vs "global warming"...

I say "a rose by any other name.." is just as thorny.

I've seen the "global warming" theory disproven- conclusively.
Gore refuses to step up and have his folks debate the whole thing in public forum. The UK largely shot down his whole movie and his tactics.

We were supposed to be having the worst hurricane season on record, yet we didn't.

One of the poles has record ice melting this year- the opposite Pole has record ice forming on it. Hmmmm.
We are on the verge of a new sunspot cycle in the next year or so and the temps will go up with that somewhat- it's fact.

Global temps have been proven to be more and less than they are now, even more-so, infact.
Way before man started impacting the environment. We'll survive.

Newt is nothing but a politican.
When we set the 68 degree low recrd theother day that happened at least 4 other times

In the early 1900's and so on.

The point: Its a cycle and politicans who NEED to have a cause and especially one that is not based on absolutes so that they may keep the "game on" is a time waster and worse a money grabbing opportunity for them.

We cant ignore them because they are power greedy and to ignore them would be at the peril of this country.

Make no mistake about it they would sell this country out to keep a position in the Politburo

Who cares what it's called? It's a natural thing that happens. You know, some people (like Algore)do not realize that nature happens. Not everything can be blamed on one's fellow man. I think the global warming scare/scam is silly, costly, and ludicrous.

Cloudsifter and UCant are both as right as right can be.

Geology 101 taught the earth has gone through several cycles of climate change. The theories about why each one took place are just theories, but nonetheless, the hard evidence exist that the earth has "suffered" under a variety of what me might consider hostile climates.

One period of warming has the north pole at approximately 70 degrees F, with the waters at 65, and ferns growing along the land masses found there. We have the fossils taken from core samples at the pole to prove this. At this point in time, there was a high degree of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere, which the ferns thrived off of. Climate change (cooling) destroyed the ferns, and created a polar ice cap.

Odd thing is, this all took place before man had any influence on the planet.

Going back to Geology 101, a more plausible explanation of global climate change is based on the suns activity. Even for the short time we have been able to measure the suns changes in activity, we can see the direct effect on global climate.

Should we work to clean up excess carbon emissions and other "pollutants"? Sure, why not? Zero footprint is a noble goal for all mankind. Should governments put people out of work, make treaties and tax policy based on "global warming"? Probably a really bad idea.

Especially when some countries like China and India are exempt from those decisions. Its simply shooting yourself in the foot.

RICH ON THE ROAD I am blessed with a truly remarkable job that for decades now has permitted me to see corners of the world, far and near. When I'm not on the road for Fox4 News in Dallas/Fort Worth, I'm often traveling with my wife Catherine -- occasionally on mission trips in Africa or Latin America with our home church (Prince of Peace Lutheran in Carrollton). My contribution to this page began largely as a Travel-blog -- sharing current and many of my past experiences in traveling America and the globe. I'm tryng, as we go along, to wade into a wider range of topics without getting in too much trouble. Richard Ray
