Over the last several weeks we have received a lot of phone calls from people complaining about all the rain that we have had.  "When's summer going to get here?"  That was a very popular statement many folks had calling into the weather department.  "When's it going to stop raining?"  That was probably the 2nd most popular question.

Well, here it is everybody!  Summer is here...skies are partly cloudy...humidity is high...and so are the temperatures.  Is everyone happy ?

NOT me!  I prefer the clouds and the rain anytime, especially in July.  But some people like the 90 to near 100 degree heat I guess.  I just wonder how long this is going to last until I hear people complaining about the heat and humidity?  Interesting field I work in, you're NOT going to please EVERYONE ALL THE TIME.

Not me! Being born and raised in NYC, I hated the cold, drab winters! Bring on the heat AND the sun especially, as I suffer from seasonal affective disorder.

This summer has been miserable for me...for my hubby with arthritis and my 13 yr. old husky mix who just started to suffer from achey joints.

Everyone has A/C...you leave your A/C'd home, enter your A/C'd car, go to your A/C'd office, and so on.

Can't do much in the rain...kids can't go swimming or go to the water parks. My kids went stir crazy and so did I.

My ideal place to live would probably be Hawaii.

Well Ron;

I generally would excuse myself from an argument like this but, I can't find anything particulaly cool or inviting about this years rainfall totals.

I work in the Foundation Repair industry and the rain has nearly desimated are ability to complete jobs. It has even set the stage for greater problems, you know issues from drying out.

You see our soils here in North Texas are plastic, or rather made up of expansive clays. This Ron, the make up for next years Foundation nightmare.

While we are enjoying the rain now over hydrating the soil will not correct the latent issues causing foundation issues. Only Piers will stabilize these issues. Infact the soil can only contain just so much moisture before it becomes liquid, and therfore When it dries out agian, and it always does the soil will crack and seperate. Homes will shift and foundations will fail.

I submit that while rain was needed too much rain has fallen, and I don't like it at all. Though one could argue that the rain will help me in the foundation repair industry.

For more information about how the rain and lack of rain can effect the soils supporting Foundation in Texas read the "Foundation Repair Report". A Book about foundation repair and issues caused by drought. This book can be found online at http://www.metrofoundationrepair.com/articles/the_found

I am with you Ron on having rain instead of heat! I like the sun and sunny days but to have offensive heat is anothing thing. We are not in control of the weather -- oops, oh, we have controlled it by way of dumping pollution into the atmosphere with our huge gas burning vehicles -- anyway, all we can do is make the most out of summer. Let us do our share in decreasing the green house gasses we emit, stop polluting the soil, stop wasting water, taking really good care of our planet. We lose this planet to our own wickedness, where do we go?

I prefer the cooler weather, including all the rain. I detest really hot weather. Thank goodness we will probably only have a few weeks of this and fall will be here. I think we've been really lucky this summer not having hot weather until late in the season.

Would like to see some snow & ice this winter. Our winters have been way to warm to suite me. Maybe I need to move to Alaska???

Ron, there is an old expression: 'That guy would complain if they hung him with a new rope'. Some people are going to complain just to be complaining.

I would prefer the temp to be lower so I can get on the golf course. I am just learning and it is hard to concentrate with the heat and humidity putting that heat index in triple digits.

Ahhhh, everyone has their own preference. Mine is cloudy days with no rain but what the heck. I am grateful that we have will be having a shorter summer this year. The heat slows the grass growing so I don't have to mow as often. I think I completely wore out my old mower this year. I don't think it was designed to mow in water either. Keep up the great job Ron, we appreciate you and the channel four news weather team!

I agree with Ron. While partly cloudy skies are nice, triple digit heat and high humidity are not.
I like all of this rain, it has helped prevent a drought. Let's not forget that heat is one the #1 killers in N Texas.

Keep up the good work Ron. As a native Texan I know it can get pretty hot here, and before long, you learn to accept it and find ways to stay cool. It could always be worse.Think SNOW! LOL

Ron Jackson Meteorologist It all started when I was only in the third grade. I did a science project on weather. I always thought it was fascinating to look at the clouds, read thermometers, and wonder why the wind blows. I was also fascinated by watching the local TV weather forecasters try to predict and explain the upcoming weather. Believe it or not, my parents were against me becoming a TV meteorologist. They told me there just weren't enough jobs out there to make a career of it. I went to a very small grade school in Northern Illinois where there were only 110 students in grades 1-8. Actually, there were only 11 in my class, and as far as I can remember, I was the only one who had his mind set on what he wanted to do for a living. Who said dreams can't come true? After graduating high school in Antioch, IL, my mind was still set on becoming a TV meteorologist. My parents, who were still against it, suggested I take up Chemistry, or even join the Navy. There aren't many schools that offer a degree in Meteorology, and going to an out-of-state school was something that would be very difficult for my parents to handle financially. So I went to junior college for 2 years, then I transferred to Northern Illinois University. It's a school that has an excellent reputation for its Meteorology program, and one that offers its students a chance to audition for their cable TV news that airs every night. What an opportunity! By my senior year, I was the main on-camera Meteorologist for the "Dekalb Evening News". Even though I didn't my degree yet, it was great being called a Meteorologist by future journalists in the newsroom. Schooling was tough. A lot of physics and calculus. It was even harder to get my first job in television. After sending out numerous tapes, and being rejected by just about everyone, I was able to land my first job with WSAU-TV in Wausau, WI, as weekend Meteorologist. That was the break I needed. I worked in Wausau only six months, before I took a weekend job at WOI-TV in Des Moines, IA. Two years later, I got the big call to come here to Dallas. I've been at KDFW for more than 15 years, and I've loved every minute of it. I can't think of a better place to live or work than here! In my spare time, I umpire baseball -- that's something I've done for almost 20 years. I'm qualified to umpire up to minor-league Double-A professional baseball, but I mostly call games for Pony and Mustang leaguers. If I weren't working in TV full-time, this would be my second career choice. In my "other" spare time, I teach Meteorology at several colleges and universities in the area. It's nice being on the other side of the desk for a change. I am also a Ham Radio operator, with a technician license. My call sign is N5OJT, and you can usually find me on Weather RACES Nets across the area, during severe weather. I'm also a big animal lover, with a black lab, 2 cats (one which weighs 26 pounds) and a large parrot. Thanks for watching!
