Propaganda: is a concerted set of messages aimed at influencing the opinions or behavior of large numbers of people. Instead of impartially providing information, propaganda in its most basic sense presents information in order to influence its audience. The most effective propaganda is often completely truthful, but some propaganda presents facts selectively to encourage a particular synthesis, or gives loaded messages in order to produce an emotional rather than rational response to the information presented. The desired result is a change of the cognitive narrative of the subject in the target audience.

The aim of propagandist is to influence people's opinions or behaviors actively, rather than merely to communicate the facts about something. For example, propaganda might be used to gather either support or disapproval of a certain position, rather than to simply present the position. What separates propagandist from "normal" communication is in ways by which the message attempts to shape opinion or behavior, which are often subtle and insidious among other characteristics. For example, propagandist is often presented in a way that attempts to deliberately evoke a strong emotion, especially by suggesting illogical (or non-intuitive) relationships between concepts or objects. This may begin with a simple transmission such as a leaflet dropped from a plane or an advertisement. Generally these messages will contain directions on how to obtain more information, via a web site, hot line, radio program, et cetera . The strategy intends to initiate the individual from information recipient to information seeker through reinforcement, and then from information seeker to opinion leader through indoctrination Many of these same techniques can be found under logical fallacies, since propagandists use arguments that, while sometimes convincing, are not necessarily valid.

Ad Hominem: A Latin phrase which has come to mean attacking your opponent, as opposed to attacking their arguments.

Appeal to fear: Appeals to fear seek to build support by instilling anxieties and panic in the general population, for example, Joseph Goebbels exploited Theodore Kaufman's Germany Must Perish! to claim that the Allies sought the extermination of the German people.

Appeal to Prejudice: Using loaded or emotive terms to attach value or moral goodness to believing the proposition. For example, the phrase: "Any hard-working taxpayer would have to agree that those who do not work, and who do not support the community do not deserve the community's support through social assistance."

Argumentum ad nauseam: This argument approach uses tireless repetition of an idea. An idea, especially a simple slogan, that is repeated enough times, may begin to be taken as the truth. This approach works best when media sources are limited and controlled by the propagator.

Bandwagon: Bandwagon and "inevitable-victory" appeals attempt to persuade the target audience to join in and take the course of action that "everyone else is taking."

Inevitable victory: invites those not already on the bandwagon to join those already on the road to certain victory. Those already or at least partially on the bandwagon are reassured that staying aboard is their best course of action.

Join the crowd: This technique reinforces people's natural desire to be on the winning side. This technique is used to convince the audience that a program is an expression of an irresistible mass movement and that it is in their best interest to join.

Black-and-White fallacy: Presenting only two choices, with the product or idea being propagated as the better choice. (e.g., "You are either with us, or you are with the enemy") Sounds familiar Colt?

Big Lie:The repeated articulation of a complex of events that justify subsequent action. The descriptions of these events have elements of truth, and the "big lie" generalizations merge and eventually supplant the public's accurate perception of the underlying events. After World War I the German Stab in the back explanation of the cause of their defeat became a justification for Nazi re-militarization and revanchist aggression.

Demonizing the enemy: Making individuals from the opposing nation, from a different ethnic group, or those who support the opposing viewpoint appear to be subhuman (e.g., the Vietnam War-era term "gooks" for NLF soldiers), worthless, or immoral, through suggestion or false accusations.

Flag-waving: An attempt to justify an action on the grounds that doing so will make one more patriotic, or in some way benefit a group, country, or idea. The feeling of patriotism which this technique attempts to inspire may not necessarily diminish or entirely omit one's capability for rational examination of the matter in question.

Obtain disapproval or Reductio ad Hitlerum: This technique is used to persuade a target audience to disapprove of an action or idea by suggesting that the idea is popular with groups hated, feared, or held in contempt by the target audience. Thus if a group which supports a certain policy is led to believe that undesirable, subversive, or contemptible people support the same policy, then the members of the group may decide to change their original position.

Oversimplification: Favorable generalities are used to provide simple answers to complex social, political, economic, or military problems.

Quotes out of Context: Selective editing of quotes which can change meanings. Political documentaries designed to discredit an opponent or an opposing political viewpoint often make use of this technique.

Red herring/Chewbacca Defense: Presenting data or issues that, while compelling, are irrelevant to the argument at hand, and then claiming that it validates the argument.

Stereotyping or Name Calling or Labeling: This technique attempts to arouse prejudices in an audience by labeling the object of the propaganda campaign as something the target audience fears, hates, loathes, or finds undesirable. For instance, reporting on a foreign country or social group may focus on the stereotypical traits that the reader expects, even though they are far from being representative of the whole country or group; such reporting often focuses on the anecdotal.

Testimonial: Testimonials are quotations, in or out of context, especially cited to support or reject a given policy, action, program, or personality. The reputation or the role (expert, respected public figure, etc.) of the individual giving the statement is exploited. The testimonial places the official sanction of a respected person or authority on a propaganda message. This is done in an effort to cause the target audience to identify itself with the authority or to accept the authority's opinions and beliefs as its own.

Virtue words: These are words in the value system of the target audience which tend to produce a positive image when attached to a person or issue. Peace, happiness, security, wise leadership, freedom, "The Truth", etc. are virtue words. In countries such as the U.S. religiosity is seen as a virtue, making associations to this quality affectively beneficial .

It seems that Colt only belives in the freedom of speech when you agree with him.

Sorry dub, I gotta disagree on this one. Colt and I have disagreed on plenty. Much like certain racial discussions have clouded my judgements and led me to get upset, I always felt as though colt took to heart the service the troops provide this country. I respect his views as his own, and have always appreciated the information he provides on terrorist activity.

Seedub,

I see your point and I agree Colt really does get upset when you ask for sources or prove his stories are just that.

Future,

I love disagreeing with Colt from time to time, but he gets so carried away with the doom and gloom. Some of colts sources are at best dubious.

Ok, so you feel that way, I get it. But I would never label him a propagandist...

Future in some ways we all are. Take Iraq Colt feel stay the course and puts up anything he can find as to why we should stay. I disagree and will post things to dispel his idea of the truth as I want the troops after Bin Lauden and out of Iraq's Civil War.

All Colts story's are so one sided, it’s not funny. If you want to be taken seriously about bringing “NEWS” to the masses, it should be unbiased or in a pro/con format. But when all you do is put out one side of the story, and delete post of others because you don’t agree with there views, that’s Cowardly. If you have a strong argument about any topic it should be able to stand alone, you don‘t have to protect it by removing the comments of all the posters that disagree with your topic or idea. Don’t get me wrong I learned a lot of info from colt by doing research on some of the topics he has posted, but I know they (for the most part) are from a narrow point of view. This is a forum for the exchanging of ideas right? When you state ideas and feelings as fact, that’s when I have a problem with it. It is hard to be taken seriously when you don’t want to, or can’t defend your writings, or statements. Deleting peoples post is WACK!!!! If you think someone is saying something stupid or off the wall the best way to shut them up is to leave their comment up so the world can see how big of a “wacko” that person really is, but when you delete all other comments that don’t coincide with your logic it’s wrong. That’s why I feel its propaganda.

I dont feel its right to write a blog and single out a single person!

Give your opinions on issues, but please dont devote a blog to cutting down a member of this blog family!

If I have a problem with a blog anyone has written I will make comments in a mature manner! You may not agree with something a person writes, but its nice when a good blogger relationship is kept within this site!

Steve,

The reason this post is up is because Colt stopped comments on his. He can not defend the garbage he puts up and it bothers him that others just don't see it his way.

I will say this one more time for you all.......

I use various news sites from cnn to the london telegraph> tall on my last round of post you asked for the links.. dude i was out on vacation and my laptop is at hp for repair so what could I do.

As far as my stories being one sided if you looked at my newt post today you would see it attacks the gop pretty damn well.

As far as not allowing comments again that is my choice and you can sit here and cry about it all day it just shows me it bothers you that much not to be able to attack me. hehehehe

if you look at the bomb post from sc you will see i used ap and another source in the same post.

last but not least I have said over and over again that my motives on terrorism are not racism they are the way it is. I have not called anyone a stupid ------ anything you fill in the blank from injun to anything else you want to put in that blank nor will I ever.

So I only have one guestion for seedub and tall (which I am starting to wonder if they are not the same. the only time i see seedub is right after tall attacks me.. makes ya go hummmmmm) Is do you want some cheese with that whine?

Most of what colt puts on here are stories that you will not see reported in the major news media. They are the ones that are biased and propagandist. Just because colt post news articles that do not fit the traditional mold of your ideological thoughts does not mean that they are made up or from questionable sources.
If you don't want to open your mind and read things outside your little world, skip over his posts. That is what I usually do with some of the wackos on this site.
Ratt
PS. don't like mine, skip it...

I agree with Steve, Please don't single out a person on here. Some of the stuff Colt posts may be out there somewhere, but he is right in one respect. The media does not always tell the whole story. I am sorry, but you guys should really look into this stuff sometime.
Colt, I know it is your choice to delete comments, but come on buddy, you got to admit you pissed some people off and now you reap what you sow.
Tall, Using the racist comment is no better then deleting a comment on a blog, it uses peer pressure to shut someone up. Revalkoholic wants to have straight talk between races, how can that be done when an opposite view is automatically called racist? Nobody wants to be labeled that just for making a comment.
Seedub, I appreciated your views and help with my last blog. Can we all take a breather and really think about what is being said? This is not good when half the regulars are fighting.

I gotta agree with you seedub. I am tired of colts posts. He puts up like friggin' 90 a day and almost everything he puts up is depressing.
I try to play a game as I scroll down the blog page. I simply look at the title of the blog or take a look at the pictures without looking at who wrote it, and I can almost always guess which ones colt has posted. That's because his posts are predictable. It ISN'T news. It IS propaganda. He posts blogs about the same crap over and over and over and over ad infinitum. It's either about Muslims, crooked Democrats, illegal immigrants, or censorship. It's all the same. Now he is some great moralist that has a lesson for all of us on how we are not living our lives morally? Screw you buddy. How about that? I'm starting to feel this isn't the FOX 2 News blogs, but colts personal blog center with all the crap he is putting up day in and day out.

I am starting to think that colt should be limited to two blog posts a day. That is more than enough. Otherwise, I gotta scroll past like 7 or 8 propaganda pieces that he has cut and pasted here.
Now he wants to be the "moral majority" telling fellow bloggers they are not living up to his "ethic"? Like I said colt, screw you. Who in the Hell are you to tell others how to live their life? You are starting to remind me of some of those whom you have posted blogs on.

Colt if we cannot counter you on your posts, we will simply post it on our own blogs where you cannot erase it.
SEEDUB single him out. He singles out races of people all the time, and I have seen him single out tall and others in some of his blogs posts, so have at it.
Colt, you are hardly winning any battle of wits here. You remind me of an extremist. Nice naming your handle after a gun by the way, cute pic in your profile, do you sleep with your "piece" at night too?

Smitty, I agree with Ratt, Don't like it? Just skip over it. Plain and simple. I agree with you guys that he shouldn't have deleted posts.
Heck, I am a vet. If I can stand those so called baby killer comments so can everyone else.

Colt I understand you can't defend your dribble so don't allow posting, but don't act like it's news. A news story tells Who, What, Where, When, Why, and sometimes How and that is all. Not the opinions added in. I did chase down one of your sources and the story you put up was the only thing close to Normal on that silly site. Now as for me being Seedub well there your waked but what the heck you keep on tilting at windmills there big boy.

Sarge Colt says he isn't preaching the destruction of anyone yet his posts are always against the Muslim world now you may not like it but that is what a racist does. Sarge Ratt is wrong in 1935 people laughed at a young man named Adolph with his crazy Idea's. I will continue to pursue Colt so that his thoughts don't grow seeds. Remember those who don't follow history are doomed to repeat it.

That’s right!!! SEEDUB and I, Tallmanok2 are two different people! OOOPS! WRONG Screen name!!!

: O

Only kidding! Tall and I are two different people we just share some of the same Ideas. Ever since I've been coming to Fox's blog it seems that Tall usually get's piled on by all of the republicans in here. So by me being a democrat too… why not voice my opinion on issues. It seems easier to comment when you’re not the ONLY Gazelle crossing the Serengeti!!!! (It’s hard to debate in the face of fire alone.) Coming here gave me confidence to debate, post and comment on bigger GLOBAL web sites!!! If you think it’s tuff in here, go to liveleak.com and make a comment. Now that is Troll Central, but if gives you a thick internet skin LOL. I don’t think Colt is going to sit in a bathtub full of hot water and slit his wrist or anything over this blog. LOL It’s not like I’m the king of the internet I’m just One man on his computer. With my own opinion about some of the posts on here. I’m sure in a couple of days Colts going to open up the comments on his blogs. The only reason people post is to get feed back, even if it pisses you off sometimes, unless your putting out PROPAGANDA!!!!!

SEEDUB

There once was a bird who didn't fly south for the winter. One day when it got really cold the bird fell to the ground, and was well on his way to freezing to death. Then along came a cow, that crapped right on the bird warming him, therefore sparing his life. The bird got so happy he started to chirp. A cat over heard the chirping from the pile of dung, uncovered the bird, and promptly ate him. The moral of the story is that somebody who puts you in chit isn’t always your enemy, and a person who get's you out of chit isn't necessarily your friend.
