I think this is absolutely ridiculous for this to be mandatory. I was under the impression that this was AMERICA! And if the Hispanic people continue to come here, then it should be MANDATORY for them to learn to speak English. We, as Americans should NOT be forced to speak another language unless it is voluntary.

It's sad how so many of the comments here are filled with hatred. Whatever though, just in case you didn't know, in Mexico along with just about every other non-English speaking country, children are REQUIRED to learn ENGLISH along with -usually- ANOTHER language, that makes it 3, people. Learning ONE more language is not going to kill you all. More than likely, this country will be Bilingual halfway through the century, so why not learn the language now? It is the 3rd most spoken language in the World.

Quit crying, America, learning ONE other language is not going to hurt you, if anything benefit you. Realize that America is one of the most blessed countries in the world, and Mexico is still a 3rd world country, if you were in their shoes, i am SURE you would be doing the exact same thing as them. Don't be greedy, Latino's are just as human as you, in reality, it all boils down to helping humanity and setting aside land and language barriers.

I absolutely agree with you! This IS AMERICA...We speak English here. No other immigrant is required to speak English. To me, there is something wrong going on here!

And, being REQUIRED to take Spanish is absurd. This is however a FREE country and we should have the right to CHOOSE if we want to learn another language or not!!!!!! Don't get me wrong, being bilingual is great in the workforce...but to pressure these children to take this foreign language is RIDICULOUS! ~M~

I am a retired Police Officer. I was in Law Enforcement for almost 30 years. All of my children are grown adults now, but they were never forced to take Spanish in school.
