With all of the strange news floating around lately, I’ve started to wonder more about who is who and what is what.  While I am far from naive, I am not above being fooled by somebody who is intelligent and has an agenda that includes deception.  I have always been fascinated with people that pretend to be something that they are not.  Is it because of an unfulfilled desire, a secret dream, a vanquished hope, an evil plan?  I am intrigued by the motivation behind such things, partly because I love a good story and partly because I have an interest in people and what makes them tick.
When I sit down to write a story or create a character, the first thing I think about is motivation.  Motivations are numerous, including everything from greed to love or danger to pain and beyond. It is in the reasons that we find the fabric and the magic of our lives.
When Socrates was on trial for heresy (his crime was encouraging his students to challenge the accepted beliefs of the day and think for themselves) he uttered his famous quote, “The unexamined life is not worth living.”  Despite the centuries that have passed since he spoke those words, they are just as true today as they were then.
I would encourage all of you to challenge everything; challenge yourselves, what you read, what you hear and what you see on television.  If you are one who engages in deception, ask yourself why. Do you look at life as a game?  Do you wish to understand truth through lies?  Do you long for something that you cannot have or cannot be?  Whatever the answer is, rest assured that the process of this discovery is worthwhile, no matter how difficult, how painful or how deep.

Great avatar! LOL!

Wow, we think so much alike Dan! I love to know what makes people tick too! It is so interesting to learn about people; the real person under what they want you to see.

I find myself instantly drawn to people who are real----not projecting an image of what they think will impress me.
These people don't care if you see them without their hair done, or their designer clothes on. They let you in their home when it's not so neat, and they say "so what?"
I am that way, and I think that's why people feel comfortable around me.

It's the people that try to be perfect, or something that they are not, that I do not trust so easily, and I have trouble getting close too.
Some of them you can make feel comfortable and secure enough to loosen up, but most of these perfectly fake people are set in their ways.

So that's what you really look like huh? All kidding aside, I think it's great to dream and aspire to be something, but most people unfortunately don't act on it...how sad. If you're not happy with yourself, ask yourself why and what can I do to change it. Take the NESTEA plunge and GO FOR IT! When I moved from the city to Long Island, my neughbors thought I was Mr. MOM...Why because I worked from home and took care of my daughter, while my wife was corporate and worked from the city. They coundn't understand the concept of me writing humor for famous comedians and knowing and working with all types of stars. Hey I dreamt about it, and now I'm doing it and when some of them dreamed about being rock stars and played air instruments...I did it. I got paid for my paintings?? Yes I did. It wasn't easy, but I juggled as many as three jobs at a time, but through perserverance I achieved my goals. In all three of these professions, challenge is key... And that challenge is broadened to world affairs, politics, the environment, the future for our children...and like me, I work for my community and my neighbors. When theey asked my what I did for a living, I reluctantly would tell them, but most of them thought that I was blowing smoke up their wazoos...bragging, trying to look better then they were...I wasn't! You asked and I told! Then someone would discover and old album of mine burried in the attic, or see my name on a humor colum in the paper, or walk into an office building and see one of my absteacts hanging in the lobby with my PAIVA signature on the bottom, and

Interesting topic Daniel !!

In "real" life, it is so very hard to see people for who they really are. Ok well, maybe for me it is. I am usually wrapped up in my own little world of trying to change my inner soul, other people? Who has the time? That is probably why I don't have many friends, and why I let go of my best friend, who I felt was toxic and had to move on :(

In the internet world.. wow, so many years online I have learned anyone could be, anyone they wanted to be.. but online only. I am pretty sure that in real life the inner light would show through..and they wouldnt be able to get very far pretending.

When you read someones thoughts, you get a picture of what they look like, your mental idea of who they are. I like that the most, since the person, instead of what they look like, is far more important to me than anything. Thats why I am not too keen on posting up pictures, ok well my hubby don't like me putting up pictures.. lol.. AND also I dont like anyone to care much about what I look like.. I think my words are far more important :)

Hey, Bob, great to hear that you followed your dreams and made your own success. Yeah, that's really me. My son was taking pictures the other day so I was making silly faces at him. Excellent points, Michelle and I understand about the pictures. Everybody should only share what they feel comfortable with and you get extra points for listening to your husband. Thanks.

Good point Michelle; It's true that some people do judge you by your photo, and could definitely get to know you much better by just seeing your words.
In real estate you can't hide though, they force you to give them pictures for their advertising and business cards, so I'm used to having my photo out of hiding.

I defy my husband Daniel! So he learned to use phrases like "Let's watch Lifetime instead of football tonight" LOL!

We know that you're deep Bob. Did you hear the one about the Zen Monk at the Hotdog stand? "I'll take one with everything" Hmmm...T-Shirts for sale, not a bad idea. I can sell them at my package opening stand.

And whats this about a package opening stand? I need to take my packages there cuz my poor little fingers get butchered trying to open those "adult proof" packages....its times like those when I wish I were Edward Scissorhands.

Hey Daniel,

Very interesting topic. How about the person who just enjoys screwing around with people's heads for motivation? I'm sure there are many out there. You also touch on something I am very good at, doubt, the fact that my name is Thomas helps too. LOL I have a tendecy to ask questions about many things, and not believe everything I hear or read. It is like that old saying, "Believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear." There is much truth in that.

Have a great rest of the day Daniel!

Hey Jane,

I call those kind of people "Plastic". They are molded to an idea of what they should be to others, or what they should look like, and unfortunately, because they are so occupied with what others think, they can't think for themselves and will never contribute anything important to society. I feel sorry for them because they are missing out on real life and all it's wonder. What is the saying? "A mind is a terrible thing to waste?" How true.

By the way, I also thought that was Cat Stevens! LOL

Have a wonderful rest of the night Jane!

Hey Bob,

It sounds like you are a very driven person, and go after your dreams with gusto. All I can say is "good for you". Not everyone has the courage to actually follow their dreams.

I'm sorry Bob, but the picture does look like Cat Stevens. You sure you're not him? LOL

Have a great rest of the night Bob!

Tom
